Campgrounds and RV parks near Dyer, TN

Reelfoot Lake is the headline attraction in the region. The shallow, cypress-studded lake formed after the New Madrid earthquakes of the early 1800s and is one of the best inland birding sites in the eastern United States, with wintering bald eagles, waterfowl, and year-round fishing for crappie and catfish. South - Reelfoot Lake State Park offers boat ramps, guided pontoon and van tours, and easy hiking trails through bottomland hardwood and cypress swamp. Closer to Dyer, travelers can explore small-town main streets, the teapot collection in nearby Trenton, and community parks along the U.S. 45W corridor. Jackson, about forty minutes south, adds Casey Jones Village along with larger grocery stores and RV service options. Anglers can also access the Obion River system for catfish and bass.

Camping around Dyer runs year-round, but conditions shift sharply by season. Summers in West Tennessee are hot and humid, while winters are cool with occasional episodes of very cold arctic air. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel, with mild days and cooler nights. Spring brings the region's heaviest rainfall and its severe-weather season, including thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes across West Tennessee. May is typically the wettest month, averaging well over 150 millimeters of rain in the Jackson area. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon highs often near 90 degrees Fahrenheit and heat indices climbing higher; shaded sites and full hookups with reliable power for air conditioning are worth prioritizing. Winter camping is possible but variable. Snowfall is modest, typically only an inch or two per year in the immediate area, though ice storms occur every few winters. At Reelfoot Lake, hundreds of bald eagles winter along the shoreline, with peak viewing and ranger-led van tours running in January and February.

Roads around Dyer are flat and mostly straight, which makes RV driving straightforward, though rural two-lanes can be narrow with soft shoulders. Cell coverage is generally reliable near U.S. 45W and I-40, but can weaken around Reelfoot Lake and the more remote agricultural roads. Private parks in the area lean utilitarian: full hookups, gravel or grass pads, and a laundry room rather than resort amenities. The South Campground at Reelfoot Lake has paved sites with 20, 30, and 50-amp electric and water hookups, bathhouses with hot showers, and a dump station at the entrance. Expect mosquitoes and biting flies near the lake in warmer months, and plan for cool nights during shoulder seasons. Grocery runs are easiest in Union City, Dyersburg, or Jackson.
