Campgrounds and RV parks near Fincastle, TN

Norris Lake is the anchor activity. Loyston Point Campground has a swimming beach that meets ADA guidelines and sits on the Hemlock Bluff National Recreation Trail, which follows the steep ridges and bluffs along the reservoir. Boat rentals and marina services are available around the lake, and bass fishing is a major draw. At Norris Dam State Park, wooded trails are open to hikers and mountain bikers, and the park preserves land along the lakeshore with a historic grist mill, the Lenoir Museum, and Civilian Conservation Corps structures still in use. Backcountry hikers can reach primitive sites reachable only on foot. Horseback riding is also permitted in the park. For rainy days, Knoxville and Oak Ridge are within an easy drive.

The Norris Lake area supports camping across much of the year, though the character of a trip shifts sharply by season. Summers are long, warm, and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common; this is peak time for swimming, boating, and lakeside sites, and reservations fill early. Late spring and early fall generally offer the most comfortable temperatures for hiking and sightseeing, with lower humidity than midsummer. Winters are short but cold and damp. Winter and early spring tend to be the wettest stretch in this part of East Tennessee, and snow is possible from late fall into early spring, though accumulations at lower elevations tend to be modest. Some private campgrounds around the lake reduce services or close for the coldest weeks, and marina hours contract. Travelers should also note that the East and West Campgrounds at Norris Dam State Park have been closed for a major renovation, with an intended reopening in 2026. Confirming current status with the park before booking is important. Bathhouses at the state park campgrounds are designed to operate year-round.

Roads into the Norris Lake campgrounds can be steep and winding. The route down to the West Campground at Norris Dam State Park is steep with sharp curves, which matters for larger RVs and travel trailers. Plan a daylight arrival where possible and check length limits before booking. At Norris Dam State Park, the West Campground has 50 sites with water and electric hookups and can accept RVs up to about 60 feet, including several paved accessible sites. The East Campground adds 25 water-and-electric sites plus 10 primitive tent-only spots. Each campground has a bathhouse and dump station. Loyston Point features 64 sites, 59 with electric hookups and many with lake views, plus a fill and dump station. Pets are allowed on leash at most area campgrounds, but not on the beach or in the store at Loyston Point. Firewood should be heat-treated or purchased on site inside the state park.
