Campgrounds and RV parks near Gallaway, TN

West Tennessee blends Civil War history, blues heritage, and outdoor recreation. A day trip into Memphis puts Beale Street, the National Civil Rights Museum, Graceland, and the Memphis Zoo within easy range. Brownsville, just up I-40, is home to the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center, which houses exhibits on Tina Turner and regional music. Outdoor options are close at hand. Fort Pillow State Park protects Civil War earthworks on a bluff above the Mississippi and offers hiking, wildlife watching, and fishing on a fifteen-acre park lake stocked with bass, bream, crappie, and catfish. The adjacent Anderson-Tully Wildlife Management Area, managed by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, borders the park and is popular with birders and anglers. Closer to camp, visitors can plan around farm markets, catfish restaurants, and events at the Agricenter in Memphis.

West Tennessee has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons, and each one changes how the campgrounds around Gallaway feel. Spring brings green-up, wildflowers, and a wet stretch with thunderstorms and occasional severe weather from March through May. Rivers and creeks can run high, and shaded gravel sites at parks like Fort Pillow may stay damp. Summer runs hot and humid, with afternoon highs frequently in the low-to-mid thirties Celsius and heat indices higher. Shaded sites, electric hookups for air conditioning, and pool access at private RV parks become important. Insects, especially mosquitoes and ticks, are active. Fall is generally the most comfortable window for RV travel, with warm days, cooler nights, lower humidity, and colorful hardwoods along the bluffs. Winter is mild by North American standards but variable, with occasional freezing nights and cold rain, and December is typically the wettest month in the Memphis area. Most private RV parks stay open year-round, while some state-park amenities operate on reduced hours.

Private RV parks in the Gallaway and Memphis area typically offer full hookups (water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electric), gravel or paved pads, Wi-Fi of varying quality, and on-site laundry or bathhouses. Agricenter RV Park in particular provides a convenient, event-oriented base close to shopping and highways. Fort Pillow's family campground includes fifteen sites with 20, 30, and 50-amp electric plus water, and some sites can accommodate rigs up to about sixty feet. Nine primitive sites share the same area, each with a grill and fire pad, picnic table, lantern holder, and pea-gravel tent pad. There are two full-service bathhouses, a small laundry, and a dump station at the campground entrance. Tennessee State Parks limit firewood gathering to dead material on the ground, and the park also sells firewood on site.
