Campgrounds near Greenback, Tennessee
Greenback sits in Loudon County in East Tennessee, on the west shore of Tellico Lake, roughly a half hour south of Knoxville and within reach of the northern approaches to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The area's campgrounds cluster along the lake, a reservoir on the Little Tennessee River, and cater primarily to RV travelers who want water access, boat ramps, and swimming beaches.
The closest option, Lotterdale Cove Campground in Greenback, offers wooded and lakefront sites with 90 RV sites and three tent sites. It is also listed under Lotterdale Cove Campground TRDA, a reference to the Tellico Reservoir Development Agency, which operates a family of Tellico Lake campgrounds including Lotterdale Cove, Toqua Campground, and Notchy Creek Campground.
A short drive across the lake in Vonore, Toqua RV Campground and Toqua Beach Campground refer to the same TRDA-run lakefront property on Highway 360, while Notchy Creek Campground sits nearby on Tellico Lake with a mix of RV sites, primitive tent sites, and cabins.
Things to do near Greenback
The Tellico Lake shoreline is the main draw. Boat ramps, fishing coves, and swimming beaches are standard at the lake campgrounds, and boat slips are available for rent at Lotterdale Cove, Toqua, and Notchy Creek for guests bringing their own craft.
Off the water, day trips run in every direction. Fort Loudoun State Historic Park and the Cherokee National Forest are close by, along with the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum in Vonore. The northern entrances to Great Smoky Mountains National Park are within a reasonable drive for hiking, wildlife viewing, and the Cades Cove loop.
Families with kids can also use the on-site amenities. Toqua Campground has beach volleyball, basketball, and a playground, and the Tellico Lake campgrounds keep small stores stocked with basics so short supply runs do not cut into lake time.

Season matters more here than at year-round southern parks. The Tellico Lake Campgrounds, which include Lotterdale Cove, Toqua, and Notchy Creek, are open from March through November, so winter trips generally require looking at private, year-round RV parks in the broader Knoxville area.
Spring and fall are the sweet spot for RV travel. Days are mild, humidity is manageable, and lake traffic is lighter than midsummer. Campers can pair lakefront stays with hiking, fishing, boating, and wildlife spotting in the surrounding foothills. Fall color in the surrounding hills typically peaks in mid to late October.
Summer is peak family season. Swimming beaches and boat ramps get busy, afternoon thunderstorms are common, and lakefront sites book out well in advance. Reservations should be locked in early for June through early August, especially around holiday weekends when seasonal residents fill much of the campground.

We had an amazing time renting this RV for our Great Smoky Mountains National Park trip! David and Teresa were incredibly friendly and welcoming from the very beginning. It was such a pleasure meeting and getting to know them. They took the time to give me a thorough walkthrough of the RV and clearly explained all of the systems, which made us feel comfortable and confident throughout our trip. Additionally, they created a manual that gives step-by-step illustrated instructions which was super helpful. They also made themselves readily available via call/text for any questions throughout our trip. The RV itself was in excellent condition, exceptionally clean, and had everything we needed and more. The layout was perfect for our group of five adults, providing plenty of space to relax, cook, play board games, watch movies, and sleep comfortably. This was such a fun adventure and a fantastic way to explore the area. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and would absolutely rent from David and Teresa again. Highly recommend!

This was our second time renting from David and Teresa! We will definitely be back again in the future.

How to book a site
The three Tellico Reservoir Development Agency campgrounds, Lotterdale Cove, Toqua, and Notchy Creek, share a common reservation system through the Tellico Lake Campgrounds website and take phone bookings directly at each property. Reservations open in March when the campgrounds open for the season, and popular sites go early.
Toqua RV Campground and Lotterdale Cove Campground are also bookable through third-party platforms such as Campspot, which is useful for comparing site types and availability across dates. Toqua Beach Campground listings reference the same lakefront property in Vonore on Highway 360.
For lakefront sites and holiday weekends, plan to book several months out. Many sites are held by seasonal residents, which reduces the pool of transient sites, so flexibility on dates and site type helps.
What to expect on arrival
Expect gated, well-managed lakefront campgrounds. There is a security gate entrance for all guests, and the resident manager keeps office hours from nine to five, so late arrivals need to coordinate ahead.
Hookups vary by property. RV sites and premium tent sites at Lotterdale Cove have electric and water hookups, and there is a dump station on site, but no sewer at the site itself. Toqua Campground offers all 102 RV sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups, making it the pick for larger rigs that want full service.
Sites at Toqua are largely open with concrete or gravel pads, while Lotterdale Cove is more wooded. Cell service is generally usable, on-site Wi-Fi is offered but can be slow, and swimming beaches, boat ramps, and bathhouses are standard across the group.

Tennessee does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal RVs, even larger Class A motorhomes. To book on RVezy, you generally need to be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through the platform, which usually takes only a few minutes. Visiting from outside the U.S.? help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Greenback?
Yes, pets are welcome on many rigs. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see every pet-friendly RV rental in Greenback that allows dogs (and sometimes cats too). Once you're on the road, Tellico Lake's shoreline is great for splash sessions, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park allows leashed pets on the Gatlinburg Trail and the Oconaluftee River Trail only. Closer to home, Lotterdale Cove Campground on Tellico Reservoir has grassy walking areas that are great for dogs. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee, and bring proof of vaccinations. Your pup will love this trip as much as you do.
nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to my campground near Greenback?
Yes, RV delivery in Greenback is a popular option, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a big rig. Many hosts will deliver and set up directly at campgrounds like Toqua Beach, Lotterdale Cove, or a private property near Tellico Village. They will level the RV, connect water, sewer, and shore power, and walk you through every switch and slide-out before handing over the keys. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts offering this service, and check the listing for the per-mile delivery fee. For a stress-free first time renting an RV, this is the easiest way to start your Greenback RV trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Greenback,%20TennesseeHow does mileage work and how far can I travel from Greenback?

Some hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage (great for road trips), while others include a daily allowance with a small per-mile fee beyond it. The listing page shows the mileage policy clearly before you book. From Greenback, popular routes are easy day drives: about 25 miles to Cades Cove, 45 miles to Gatlinburg, 110 miles to Asheville, NC, 180 miles to Nashville, and 200 miles to Chattanooga. Estimate your daily miles and match them to a host's package to avoid surprise fees on your Greenback RV trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Greenback,%20TennesseeWhere are the best campgrounds near Greenback, TN?
You have great options nearby. Lotterdale Cove Campground, run by the Tellico Reservoir Development Agency, sits right on Tellico Lake with full-hookup RV sites. Toqua Beach Campground offers a sandy swim beach plus shaded RV sites just minutes from town. Melton Hill Dam Campground, a Tennessee Valley Authority park about 45 minutes north, has waterfront sites with electric hookups. For the full Smokies experience, Cades Cove Campground inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the classic pick, about an hour's drive. Reserve early because these spots fill up fast on summer and fall weekends, especially during leaf-peeping season.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232489When is the best time to rent an RV in Greenback, Tennessee?
Greenback is enjoyable year-round, but the sweet spots are April through May and September through late October. Spring brings highs in the 60s to upper 70s, blooming dogwoods, and uncrowded trails. Fall is legendary: October paints the Smokies in fiery color with daytime temps in the 60s and 70s, ideal for hiking and campfires. Summer (June through August) is hot and humid with highs in the upper 80s, but lake days at Tellico are unbeatable, and AC-equipped rentals keep evenings cool. Winters are short but chilly with January lows around 30°F, so a winterized rig with a furnace makes RV camping in Greenback cozy and crowd-free.
weather.gov/mrx/I've never rented an RV before. How does the orientation work?
You're in good hands. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, or at delivery if you choose that option. They will show you how to extend slide-outs, run the generator, dump tanks, hook up at a campground, and use the propane stove and fridge. Most walkthroughs take 30 to 45 minutes, and hosts are available throughout your trip via in-app messaging. If you're nervous about driving in East Tennessee's rolling terrain, consider a Class C or campervan rental in Greenback, both are easier to handle than a 40-foot Class A. With 24/7 roadside support included, the path from first-time renter to confident camper is short.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if my RV breaks down on a trip from Greenback?
You're covered around the clock. Every booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance through the RVezy protection plan, so a flat tire on Foothills Parkway, a dead battery at Cades Cove, or a tow off Highway 411 is just a quick call away. The roadside team can dispatch service vehicles, arrange towing to a qualified RV repair shop in Maryville or Knoxville, and coordinate with your host on next steps. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway. Most trips go off without a hitch, but knowing backup is standing by makes the whole Greenback RV trip more relaxed.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my RV rental from Greenback into other states or Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome and Greenback's location makes it easy. You're about 110 miles from Asheville, NC, 200 miles from Atlanta, GA, 240 miles from Louisville, KY, and within a day's drive of Virginia's Blue Ridge Parkway. An RV road trip from Greenback into the Carolinas or Georgia requires no extra paperwork, just a quick heads-up to your host. Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed with host approval and verified insurance documentation, so message the host early if that's your plan. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted under RVezy's insurance, so save those trips for another time.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect and how should I budget?
Plan smart and fuel costs stay manageable. Class C motorhomes near Greenback typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon on gas, campervans (Class B) often hit 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but average around 10 to 14 MPG combined. Tennessee gas prices are usually below the national average, with several stations in Maryville and Lenoir City just 15 minutes from Greenback. For a typical four-day, 400-mile loop through the Smokies, budget roughly $150 to $250 for fuel. Diesel pumps are easy to find along US-129 and I-75.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Greenback?
Book early to lock in the prime spots. For Cades Cove Campground inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park, reservations open six months in advance on Recreation.gov, and October weekends often sell out within hours. Tennessee State Parks release sites months ahead through their reservation system at tnstateparks.com. Tellico-area parks like Lotterdale Cove and Toqua Beach typically book up two to three months ahead for summer weekends and leaf-peeping season. Tip: midweek arrivals are easier to secure and often cheaper. Once your campsite is set, book your RV rental in Greenback, TN so the dates line up perfectly.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232489What are the driving conditions like around Greenback?
Driving here is enjoyable once you know the lay of the land. Greenback sits on Highway 411 with gentle, rolling roads connecting Maryville, Vonore, and Madisonville, all easy in any size RV. Heading into the Smokies, US-129 (the famous Tail of the Dragon section) is best avoided in an RV because of 318 tight curves in 11 miles; instead take US-321 through Townsend, the locals' peaceful side route. Foothills Parkway has wide lanes and no commercial traffic. Watch for afternoon thunderstorms June through August, deer at dawn and dusk, and occasional fog in the river valleys. Use Knoxville's I-140 bypass to skirt city traffic.
smartway.tn.gov/trafficWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Greenback?
Most campgrounds near Greenback are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Lotterdale Cove and Toqua Beach offer 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer at full-hookup sites, plus dump stations for non-hookup guests. Private parks usually have potable water fill stations, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi. National Park sites like Cades Cove have potable water and a dump station but no individual hookups, so plan for generator hours (typically 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.). Need to dump or fill mid-trip? Tractor Supply locations in Alcoa carry propane, and Pilot Travel Center on US-321 has a public dump for a small fee. Knowing where to park an RV in Greenback gets easy fast.
nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/cadescove.htmWhat's inside a typical RV rental near Greenback?
More than you'd expect. Most RVs on RVezy near Greenback come fully equipped: a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa beds, a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, plus a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet. Air conditioning and a furnace are standard, which matters in Greenback's humid summers and cool fall nights. Many include a TV, Bluetooth speakers, an onboard generator, and outdoor camp chairs. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes usually have seatbelts for 4 to 7 travelers, making family RV trips in Greenback easy. Check the listing's amenities checklist or message the host to confirm specifics like a Wi-Fi hotspot or solar.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Greenback,%20TennesseeWhat add-ons and pickup options do hosts offer in Greenback?
Hosts in Greenback make trips turnkey. Popular add-ons include linen and kitchen packages, camp chair and table sets, portable grills, generators, bike racks, and kayak or paddleboard rentals (handy for Tellico Lake). Pickup is typically at the host's address near Greenback, Maryville, or Knoxville, with most pickups in the afternoon and drop-off in the late morning. Many hosts offer delivery to your campground for a per-mile fee, sometimes waived within a set radius. Mileage policies range from a daily allowance to fully unlimited; the listing page lays it all out before you book, so there are no surprises at checkout.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Greenback,%20TennesseeHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through RVezy directly (never to the host in cash), using a credit or debit card, which keeps your booking protected by the platform. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and released after drop-off, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. Deposit amounts vary by rig and are shown on the listing before you book. To avoid issues, take time-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, follow the host's tank-dumping and fuel-refill instructions, and report any concerns right away through the RVezy app. Transparent process, no surprises.
