Campgrounds and RV parks near Greenfield, TN

Water recreation anchors most trips. Carroll County 1000 Acre Recreational Lake is the largest man-made lake in West Tennessee, with more than 22 miles of shoreline and over 17,000 acre-feet of water. Roughly 600 acres are dedicated to water sports and 400 acres to fishing, and two swimming beaches with a concession stand operate from late May until Labor Day. Reelfoot Lake State Park, west of Greenfield, is known for bald eagle viewing in winter and cypress-tree paddling in warmer months. In Jackson, families often stop at the Casey Jones Home and Railroad Museum for its restored rail cars and locomotive exhibits. Carroll County Shooting Sports Park, Discovery Park of America in Union City, and Natchez Trace State Park round out the day-trip options.

Northwest Tennessee has a long camping season, but the shoulders matter. Spring brings frequent thunderstorms and some of the region's highest rainfall totals, which can push river and lake levels up and briefly close low-lying boat ramps. Summer is hot and humid, with heat indices often above the air temperature, so shaded sites and 50-amp service are worth requesting. Fall is the most stable stretch of weather, with cool nights, lower humidity, and clear skies through October. It is also a productive fishing stretch on the 1,000 Acre Lake and the reservoirs to the south. Note that Carroll County Thousand Acre Recreation Lake operates from March 1 to October 31, so late-fall and winter trips need to route to year-round parks. Winter is mild but wet, with occasional ice events and a few light snowfalls. Some independent parks reduce staffing or limit tent sites from December through February, so confirm hookups and gate hours before arrival.

Roads into Greenfield are rural but well maintained. US-45E is the main north-south route; expect narrow shoulders and slow-moving farm equipment in season. Cell coverage is generally reliable on major highways and can drop in wooded pockets near the lakes. Most parks in the area offer 30 and 50-amp service, water, and either full sewer or a shared dump station. Sites tend to be level gravel or grass, and pull-throughs are common. Grocery, fuel, and propane are easiest in Martin, Union City, Huntingdon, and Jackson rather than in Greenfield itself. Insects peak from May through September, so bring repellent and a screen room. Quiet hours are strictly observed at county and state facilities, and generator use is typically restricted overnight.
