Overview of campgrounds near Jellico
Jellico sits in the Cumberland Mountains of northeastern Tennessee, just south of the Kentucky state line and directly off Interstate 75. The town is a natural stop for RV travelers moving between the Midwest and the Southeast, and its surrounding hills, creeks, and reclaimed mining lands support a small but varied cluster of campgrounds within a short drive.
The closest full-service option is Indian Mountain State Park, a 213-acre Tennessee state park at the base of Indian Mountain in Campbell County. Independent parks in the area include Kountry Kritters Campground and Tacketts Hideaway Campground, both oriented toward RV travelers looking for quiet mountain stays.
Families traveling with kids often extend their search a short distance across the state line to Kentucky Splash WaterPark and Campground in Williamsburg, Kentucky, while off-road enthusiasts base themselves at Ride Royal Blue ATV park, which connects to the Royal Blue Wildlife Management Area trail system south of town.
Things to do near Jellico
Most trips center on Indian Mountain State Park. The park features lakes set against mountain scenery, offering opportunities for hiking, paddling, fishing, birding, and disc golf. A paved loop trail circles the main lake and works well for strollers and easy family walks. Visitors can bring their own boat or rent a paddle boat, kayak, or paddleboard at the lake.
For bigger adventures, Ride Royal Blue ATV park provides direct access to a large network of shared-use trails through the Cumberland foothills. Kentucky Splash WaterPark and Campground adds slides, a wave pool, a lazy river, and mini-golf during its May to September season, and is a common day trip for campers staying at Indian Mountain, Kountry Kritters, or Tacketts Hideaway.
The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, and the shops and restaurants of Jellico and Williamsburg are all within an easy driving radius.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV camping around Jellico. Daytime temperatures are mild, humidity is manageable, and the Cumberland ridges show strong wildflower and leaf color. Fall weekends, especially in October, book up quickly at Indian Mountain State Park and at nearby private parks, so reservations several weeks out are advisable.
Summer is the busiest stretch. Warm, humid days pull families toward lake swimming, paddling, and the water park at Kentucky Splash, which operates from May through September. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in the mountains, and campers should plan flexible outdoor time around them. Severe storms can occasionally trigger flash flood watches in the Cumberland drainages.
Winter is the quietest season. The main campground at Indian Mountain State Park is open year-round, but the Kentucky Splash water park closes for the season and some private parks reduce operations during colder months. Occasional snow and freezing rain can affect mountain roads, and RVers should confirm which hookups remain active in freezing conditions.
How to book campgrounds near Jellico
Sites at Indian Mountain State Park are handled through the Tennessee State Parks reservation system at reserve.tnstateparks.com, which accepts bookings up to one year in advance. It pays to book early, especially during peak seasons, as this campground near I-75 can fill up. When making reservations, campers can request specific sites, such as those closer to the water or with more shade.
Private parks such as Kountry Kritters Campground, Tacketts Hideaway Campground, and Kentucky Splash WaterPark and Campground take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Ride Royal Blue ATV park is best booked well in advance for trail-riding weekends and holidays.
Check rig-length limits and hookup type before confirming. Indian Mountain State Park accommodates larger RVs on level paved pads that require minimal setup.
What to expect on site
The main state park campground is well suited to renters new to RVing. It offers 47 paved sites for both tents and RVs, each with water and 20, 30, and 50 amp electric hookups, a picnic table, grill, and fire pit. A limited number of sites include sewer hookups, so campers who need one should reserve early. A centrally located modern bathhouse provides flush restrooms and hot showers, and a dump station is available on site.
Site layout has a few quirks worth planning for. Fire pits and picnic tables sit about 25 feet behind the concrete pads rather than adjacent to them. Water and sewer connections can require longer hoses than typical, up to 25 feet for some sites, while electric hookups are positioned at the rear driver-side corner of each pad.
Cell signal is generally decent near I-75 but drops on trails and in deeper coves. Bring bug spray for summer, and expect deer and other wildlife sightings around the campground.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jellico,TennesseeWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Jellico, Tennessee?

Tennessee does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RVs, motorhomes, or travel trailers used recreationally, regardless of size. To book on RVezy you will need to be at least 25 years old and complete the platform's quick ID verification. Visiting from outside the U.S.? help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Jellico RV trip?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy applies a clear cancellation policy to every reservation, including a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your Jellico RV trip with confidence. The exact refund amount depends on how far out you cancel relative to your trip start date. Cancellation terms are set by RVezy directly, not by the individual host, and the details are shown during checkout and in your booking confirmation. If the host ever cancels, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credit. Book early to secure the best Jellico rigs for fall leaf-peeping season, knowing you have flexibility if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Jellico RV rental?
Absolutely. Pet-friendly RV rental options in Jellico are easy to find on RVezy: toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you will see rigs whose owners welcome dogs. Any pet fee is shown right on the listing. Jellico is a dream for dog parents: Indian Mountain State Park has leashed-pet-friendly trails and a quiet lake loop, and the Cumberland Trail just outside town offers miles of shaded paths. Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, about 90 minutes west, also allows leashed dogs on most trails. Message the host before booking to confirm any size or breed notes, then pack a tie-out for shaded campsite hangs.
tnstateparks.com/parks/indian-mountainCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Jellico?
Yes, RV delivery is one of the most popular options for Jellico bookings on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many owners will drive the motorhome or travel trailer right to your campsite at Indian Mountain State Park, Cove Lake State Park, or a private RV park, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Use the Delivery filter when searching and you will see each host's delivery radius and per-mile fee. Delivery is a game changer if you are flying into McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) in Knoxville, about 70 miles south, or if you would rather skip driving a 30-foot rig through the mountains your first time out.
tnstateparks.com/parks/indian-mountainHow does mileage work, and how far can I drive on a Jellico RV trip?
You have plenty of range. Each host sets their own mileage policy and it is shown clearly on the listing: some offer a set number of free miles per night (often 100 to 150), while others advertise RV rental with unlimited mileage, ideal for a longer Jellico RV trip. From Jellico you can reach Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in about 35 miles, Big South Fork in around 80 miles, Knoxville in 70 miles, the Great Smoky Mountains entrance at Gatlinburg in roughly 110 miles, and Nashville in around 200 miles. If you are planning a multi-park loop, filter for unlimited-mileage listings first to keep your budget predictable.

Cove Lake State Park in Caryville, about 15 miles south, offers lakeside sites with electric and water. About 25 miles north in Corbin, KY you will find Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, home to the famous moonbow. tnstateparks.com/parks/cove-lakeWhen is the best time to visit Jellico for an RV trip?
Jellico is a three-season sweet spot. Spring (April to May) brings wildflowers and highs in the 60s to mid-70s F, perfect for hiking the Cumberland Trail. Summer (June through August) is warm and humid with highs in the mid-80s F, ideal for swimming at Indian Mountain State Park's lake, though afternoon thunderstorms are common. Fall (late September through October) is the showstopper: the Cumberland Mountains light up red and gold, and crisp 50 to 70 F days make for unbeatable RV camping weather. Winters can dip into the 20s F with occasional snow at elevation. Book a mid-October trip four to six months ahead since leaf season is the busiest stretch in the region.
weather.gov/mrx/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Jellico?
You have got this. First time renting an RV in Jellico is easier than you would expect. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the slide-outs, generator, water systems, and dump valves, and you can message them anytime during your trip. If mountain driving makes you nervous, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or a campervan rental in Jellico, both of which handle the I-75 grades and local two-lane roads comfortably. Even better, request delivery so the rig is already parked and leveled at your campground when you arrive. RVezy's 24/7 roadside assistance is in your back pocket the whole trip, and most first-timers feel at home behind the wheel within the first hour.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You are never alone out there. Every Jellico RV rental on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat on I-75, lose power at a campsite near Cove Lake, or run into a generator hiccup deep in the Cumberlands, one phone call gets help dispatched. RVezy's customer support team is also reachable before, during, and after your trip for anything else, from billing questions to host communication. Your host is typically your second call since they know their rig best. Save the roadside number and your host's contact in your phone before you leave the driveway, since cell service can be spotty in pockets of the Daniel Boone National Forest just across the Kentucky line.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Jellico RV rental across state lines or to Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome and common for any motorhome rental booked in Jellico. The town sits right on the Tennessee-Kentucky border, so most renters easily cross into Kentucky for Cumberland Falls (about 25 miles) or Daniel Boone National Forest, and many head south into Georgia or east into North Carolina for the Smokies and Blue Ridge Parkway. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host's preferences and your protection plan, so message the host through the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Popular RV road trips from Jellico include the Bluegrass loop through Lexington or a Smoky Mountains figure-eight.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's the fuel cost like for an RV trip from Jellico?
Fuel is one of the more predictable parts of your budget. Tennessee gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, and Jellico has several stations right at I-75 exit 160 with truck-friendly pumps suitable for larger rigs. Expect roughly 8 to 10 MPG for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, and 18 to 22 MPG for a campervan or tow vehicle with a travel trailer. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop through Cumberland Gap and Big South Fork, budget around $150 to $250 in fuel for a midsize Class C. Fill up in Tennessee before crossing into Kentucky when possible, and the Pilot Travel Center at exit 160 has room for any rig.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Jellico?
Aim for three to six months ahead, especially for summer weekends and October leaf season. Tennessee State Parks (including Indian Mountain and Cove Lake) accept reservations up to 12 months in advance through the official tnstateparks.com booking system, and the prime full-hookup sites go fast. Kentucky State Parks like Cumberland Falls use their own reservation portal with similar windows. Big South Fork campgrounds (Bandy Creek) book through Recreation.gov, also up to six months out. If you are flexible, Sunday through Thursday nights almost always have openings, even in peak fall, so plan a midweek RV camping Jellico getaway and you will have your pick of lakefront sites.
tnstateparks.com/about/reservationsWhat are the local driving conditions like around Jellico?
Driving around Jellico is RV-friendly once you know the lay of the land. Interstate 75 runs straight through town and is the easiest north-south route, though the stretch climbing Jellico Mountain has a steep grade with a runaway truck ramp, so take it slow in lower gear, especially when descending southbound. Local routes like US-25W are scenic two-lane roads with some tight curves, fine for Class C and travel trailers but tighter for big Class A coaches. Winter occasionally brings icy patches at elevation. Check Tennessee Department of Transportation's SmartWay site for live I-75 conditions before climbing the mountain, and avoid driving the grade in dense fog, which is common at dawn in the valleys.
smartway.tn.gov/trafficWhat amenities do campgrounds near Jellico offer?
Most parks here offer solid amenities. Indian Mountain State Park has RV sites with full hookups (water, electric, sewer), a dump station, hot showers, a playground, and a stocked lake for fishing. Cove Lake State Park offers electric and water hookups plus a central dump station and bathhouses. Cumberland Falls and Bandy Creek (Big South Fork) provide a mix of electric and primitive sites with shared dump stations. If you need to dump and refill between stops, the Pilot Travel Center at I-75 exit 160 in Jellico has RV dump and potable water for a small fee. Most state parks here have laundry and a camp store, so you can travel light and restock on the road.
tnstateparks.com/parks/indian-mountainWhat's included inside a typical Jellico RV rental?
Plenty. RVezy rentals in Jellico are essentially condos on wheels. Expect a queen or king bed, bunk options on family rigs, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control (air conditioning and furnace), and seatbelted seating for travel. Most listings include a TV, and many feature an onboard generator for off-grid power, perfect for boondocking on Cumberland Plateau forest roads. Wi-Fi varies by host, often via a mobile hotspot, and signal can be spotty in deeper Appalachian hollows. Bedding, towels, and kitchen kits are sometimes included and sometimes offered as add-ons, with the listing showing exactly what comes with your rig. Filter by Sleeps count to match your group size in seconds.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jellico,TennesseeWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts offer a range of helpful add-ons to customize your trip: linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, generators, bike racks, propane refills, and pre-stocked firewood. Many Jellico-area hosts also offer delivery and full setup to Indian Mountain State Park, Cove Lake, or a nearby private campground, with fees based on mileage. Pickup is usually at the host's home base, and you will coordinate a time directly through RVezy's messaging. Mileage policies vary, with free miles per night or unlimited mileage shown right on the listing. For a true plug-and-play first RV trip, book a delivery host with a linens add-on so you arrive to a fully made-up rig and just step inside.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jellico,TennesseeHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy's platform with a credit card during checkout, never directly to the host, which keeps everything documented and protected. Most hosts also require a refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig), which is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the trip once the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid any deposit issues on your Jellico RV rental, take dated photos at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's fueling and dumping instructions, and respect the mileage allowance. Review the listing's fee summary carefully before booking so the cleaning fee, mileage rate, and deposit are all clear up front.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Jellico during winter?
Yes, winter RV rentals in Jellico are available and can be a magical low-crowd adventure. Daytime highs from December through February usually run 40 to 50 F with nighttime lows in the 20s F, and occasional snow at higher elevations along Jellico Mountain. Look for listings advertised as four-season or with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and a working furnace, and message the host to confirm before booking. Indian Mountain State Park stays open year-round with electric hookups (water may be shut off in deep freezes, so fill your fresh tank in town). Pair a winter rental with a day trip to Cumberland Falls: the moonbow appears on clear full-moon nights and is stunning with a dusting of snow.
