Campgrounds near LaFollette, Tennessee
LaFollette sits in Campbell County at the base of the Cumberland Mountains in northeast Tennessee, roughly 30 miles northwest of Knoxville along the I-75 corridor. The area draws RV travelers because it combines a state park on Cove Lake, deep-water recreation on Norris Lake, and direct access to one of the largest OHV trail networks in the eastern United States. Interstate 75 exits near LaFollette put most campgrounds within a short drive of fuel, groceries, and dump stations.
Cove Lake State Park covers roughly 600 acres in a valley on the eastern edge of the Cumberland Plateau, with a 200-acre lake used for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. A short drive south, Norris Dam State Park sits along the shores of Norris Lake, a large impoundment of the Clinch River created by the Tennessee Valley Authority, and is managed by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
Private campgrounds in the area cater heavily to ATV and side-by-side riders. Ride Royal Blue ATV park, Kountry Kritters Campground, and Royal Blue RV Park all sit within reach of the Royal Blue trail system in the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area.
Things to do around LaFollette
OHV riding is the headline activity. Ride Royal Blue ATV park connects to the Royal Blue and Sundquist units of the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area, providing access to over 600 miles of trails covering roughly 200,000 acres in the Cumberland Mountains. All riders must follow Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency rules, which require a valid NCWMA OHV riding permit; permits can be purchased online through TWRA or at the resort.
Water recreation centers on Norris Lake and Cove Lake. Norris Reservoir holds largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, walleye, striped bass, and trout below the dam, and fishing requires a valid Tennessee license. Due to dangerous conditions, Cove Lake is not suitable for swimming, but it is popular for paddling and bank fishing.
Hikers use the Cumberland Trail, which connects to Cove Lake, and multiple loop trails within Norris Dam State Park.

The LaFollette area is usable year-round for RV travel, but two nearby state park campgrounds are currently closed for renovation. The Cove Lake Campground is closed through 2026 due to a capital renovation project. The East and West Campgrounds at Norris Dam State Park are also closed for renovations with an intended reopening in 2026. RV travelers should plan around these closures by focusing on private parks such as Ride Royal Blue ATV park, Royal Blue RV Park, and Kountry Kritters Campground until the state sites reopen.
Spring and fall bring the strongest bookings at OHV-focused parks. Fall foliage typically peaks in mid to late October across the Cumberland Mountains, and cooler temperatures make riding more comfortable. Safety orange or safety pink apparel is required on the head and chest of each rider during hunting season, which runs from the first weekend of October until the second weekend of January.
Summer is hot and humid with typical afternoon thunderstorms. Winter is generally mild but wet, with occasional snow and ice at higher elevations.

Very responsive to request to book. Accommodated our timing for delivery and pickup. Handled all the set up and take down. It's a small camper but is perfect if you just need a spot to sleep, shower and have a small meal. Just bring your extras to set up and enjoy the outdoors. (It does have 2 chairs and an outdoor rug as well).

How to book a site
State park sites use a single system. Advanced reservations at Tennessee State Parks are available up to one year in advance, with a non-refundable advanced reservation fee per campsite. Reservations can be made online through the official Tennessee State Parks reservation portal or by phone at 888-TNPARKS. Maximum stay is 14 nights in-season and 28 nights off-season (December 1 through the end of February).
Reservations may be cancelled up to and including two days prior to arrival with a refund of campground fees, minus the reservation fee; cancellations made one day prior forfeit the first night's fees and taxes.
Private parks such as Ride Royal Blue ATV park, Royal Blue RV Park, and Kountry Kritters Campground book directly through their own websites or by phone. Weekend riding season, fall foliage weekends, and holidays fill first, so reserve early for those windows.
What to expect on-site
Sites near LaFollette range from rustic gravel pads to full-hookup pull-throughs. When open, the West Campground at Norris Dam offers 50 sites with water and electric hookups, and the East Campground has 25 water and electric sites plus 10 primitive tent sites; each side has a bathhouse, a dump station, and sites with a picnic table, grill, and fire pit. The road leading to the West Campground is steep with dangerous curves, so drivers of larger rigs should take care.
OHV-focused private parks are built around trail access. Ride Royal Blue sits just off I-75 with full-hookup RV sites, an on-site general store, and direct connections into the Sundquist trail network. Kountry Kritters Campground and Royal Blue RV Park offer similar RV amenities in the same corridor.
Cell coverage is inconsistent in the mountains, and firewood is typically sold on-site to prevent invasive pest spread.
