Campgrounds near Lakeland, Tennessee
Lakeland sits in eastern Shelby County, minutes off I-40 and roughly 20 miles from downtown Memphis. That location makes it a practical base for RV travelers who want quick highway access, urban attractions, and Mississippi River bottomland forest within the same trip. Nearby campgrounds range from full-hookup commercial parks to a large state park campground on the bluffs.
Agricenter RV Park and Cook's Lake RV Resort and Campground serve travelers looking for full hookups close to East Memphis amenities. Memphis Graceland RV Park and Campground and Elvis Presley Blvd RV Park cluster near the Graceland attraction on the south side of the city, appealing to families building a trip around music-history stops.
For a more natural setting, Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park sits along the Mississippi River, less than 20 miles north of Memphis, with portions of the park situated atop the Chickasaw Bluffs. The park mixes hardwood forest, lakes, and long trail networks, giving RV travelers a quieter alternative to the commercial parks closer to the interstate.
Things to do near Lakeland
Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park is the outdoor anchor for the area. The park encompasses 12,539 acres of bottomland hardwood forest along the Mississippi River and features over 20 miles of hiking and biking trails through cypress swamps and hardwood forests. Poplar Tree Lake provides fishing opportunities and boat rentals, and wildlife viewing is strong, with deer, wild turkeys, and diverse bird species. A 36-hole disc golf course, divided into two 18-hole courses, is one of the park's most popular amenities.
In town, families typically pair campground stays with Graceland, the Memphis Zoo, the National Civil Rights Museum, Beale Street, and Shelby Farms Park. The Agricenter area near Lakeland includes a working farmers market and open agricultural fields, useful for stretching legs without leaving the RV base. Day trips west across the river reach Arkansas state parks and wildlife refuges.

The Memphis area has a humid subtropical climate with high annual precipitation, hot summers, and cold winters. Most private RV parks around Lakeland stay open year-round, and Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park operates year-round as well, though maintenance closures do occur.
Spring brings frequent rain and can include severe thunderstorms and tornado watches; river-bottom trails may flood after heavy rain. Summer brings heat, humidity, and afternoon storms, but it is the busiest camping window because school is out and Memphis event calendars are full. Fall typically delivers the most comfortable camping weather, with cooler nights, lower humidity, and hardwood color along the bluffs.
Winter is mild by national standards but can turn sharply cold. The coldest nights drop to 10 F or lower, though the city averages just one night a winter that cold, most afternoons warm above freezing, and only about four days a year stay frosty all day. Snow is occasional rather than routine.
How to book campgrounds near Lakeland
Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park uses the Tennessee State Parks reservation system. Advanced reservations are available prior to arrival and may be made up to one year in advance, and a non-refundable reservation fee applies per campsite. Popular summer weekends and holidays fill early, so book as far ahead as possible.
Commercial parks such as Agricenter RV Park, Cook's Lake RV Resort and Campground, Memphis Graceland RV Park and Campground, and Elvis Presley Blvd RV Park handle bookings directly by phone or through their websites. Daily, weekly, and monthly stays are commonly offered at these parks. Confirm rig-length limits, age of accepted RVs, and hookup type when booking, since these vary by operator.
What to expect on arrival
Commercial parks in the Memphis metro tend to be flat, open, and pull-through friendly, with 30- and 50-amp service, sewer hookups, laundry, and shower facilities typical. Agricenter RV Park sits near the I-40 and I-240 interchange, mixing longer-term guests with overnight travelers.
At Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park, the campground is wooded and quieter. Sites for RV and tent camping are equipped with a table, grill, and electrical and water hookups, several campsites also feature sewer hookups, and a dump station is available for sites without the hookup. A playground, community fire pit and pavilion, and multiple bathhouses sit near the campground. Cell service is very limited to none, and rigs over 40 feet may face tight maneuvering, so download maps and confirm site dimensions before arrival.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Lakeland, TN
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Lakeland, TN?
RV rental in Lakeland is one of the more affordable ways to explore the Memphis area, with most rentals running between $95 and $250 per night depending on the size and age of the rig. Travel trailers and campervans tend to sit at the lower end, while spacious Class A and Class C motorhomes land at the top. To find a cheap RV rental Lakeland visitors love, try booking midweek, traveling in the shoulder months of March, April, or October when humidity drops, and avoiding Memphis in May and Elvis Week in August. Pro tip: many Lakeland hosts offer multi-night discounts of 10 to 20 percent for stays of a week or longer, so it pays to extend that trip to Pickwick or the Smokies.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakeland,TennesseeDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Lakeland, TN?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Lakeland. Tennessee does not require a Commercial Driver License (CDL) for personal-use recreational vehicles, so your standard Class D license covers everything from a nimble campervan to a 40-foot Class A motorhome. RVezy requires every guest to be an approved driver who is at least 25 years old with a valid license, and identity verification happens right inside the platform during booking. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before you fly, pair it with your home license, and you are cleared to hit the road toward Shelby Farms or the Mississippi River.

Yes, every RV rental in Lakeland booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on your trip instead of worst-case scenarios. The protection plan covers physical damage to the vehicle during your rental, and during booking you choose the coverage level that fits your comfort zone. It gives renters meaningful financial peace of mind whether you are navigating I-40 through Memphis or backing into a site at Meeman-Shelby Forest. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video with your host at pickup. It only takes two minutes and makes the return process effortless.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Lakeland RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets a clear, platform-wide cancellation policy that includes a grace-period window for full money-back cancellation right after booking, plus tiered options as your trip date approaches. Hosts do not set their own cancellation rules, which keeps things consistent no matter which Lakeland listing you choose. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds the booking or provides travel credits so your plans stay on track. Pro tip: book earlier rather than later, especially for Memphis in May or Beale Street Music Festival weekends, because the best Lakeland RVs go fast and you will still have flexibility built into your reservation.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Lakeland RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Lakeland options are plentiful, and the area is genuinely great for dogs. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see hosts who welcome four-legged co-pilots, then message them before booking to confirm size and breed details. Once you arrive, Shelby Farms Park (the country's largest urban park, just 15 minutes west) has a 100-acre off-leash dog park and a one-mile dog lake loop. Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park also welcomes leashed pets on its 20-plus miles of trails. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, paw protection booties for hot summer pavement, and your dog's vaccination records in case a campground asks at check-in.
shelbycountytn.gov/3088/Shelby-Farms-ParkCan the RV be delivered to me in Lakeland?
Yes, RV delivery Lakeland is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is a game-changer for first-time renters. Many Lakeland-area hosts will drive the RV straight to your campground, your driveway, or even Memphis International Airport, set up the awning and slides, connect water and power, and walk you through every system before handing you the keys. Delivery fees usually run $2 to $5 per mile depending on the host, with flat-rate options for popular spots like Meeman-Shelby Forest or Tom Sawyer's RV Park in West Memphis. Filter listings by Delivery on the search page, then message the host directly to lock in your delivery date and location.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakeland,TennesseeHow far can I travel from Lakeland in an RV?
You can go just about anywhere from Lakeland. Each host sets their own mileage policy, with typical allowances ranging from 100 to 150 free miles per night, and many Lakeland listings offer unlimited mileage packages for a flat add-on fee. Popular RV road trip from Lakeland routes include Nashville (210 miles east on I-40), the Great Smoky Mountains (about 400 miles east), Pickwick Landing State Park (150 miles southeast), and Hot Springs, Arkansas (290 miles west). Pro tip: if you are planning a long Tennessee RV trip across the state, look specifically for the RV rental with unlimited mileage filter. It saves a surprising amount on big-loop itineraries.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakeland,TennesseeWhere are the best campgrounds near Lakeland, TN?
The best campgrounds near Lakeland include some standout local picks. Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park (20 miles northwest) offers 49 wooded sites with water and electric, several with full sewer, plus a brand-new playground and 20 miles of trails along the Mississippi bluffs. Memphis-South KOA Holiday in Horn Lake (35 minutes southwest) has full hookups and a pool. Tom Sawyer's RV Park in West Memphis sits right on the Mississippi River with unbeatable sunsets. Agricenter International RV Park in nearby Cordova is a flat, easy in-and-out option for first-timers. Pro tip: state park reservations open up to one year in advance at reserve.tnstateparks.com, and Meeman-Shelby fills up fast for spring weekends.
tnstateparks.com/parks/meeman-shelbyWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Lakeland?
Spring (mid-March through May) and fall (late September through early November) are the sweet spots for RV camping Lakeland visitors love. Daytime highs sit in a comfortable 65 to 80 degree range, humidity is manageable, and the dogwoods and fall foliage along the Mississippi bluffs are stunning. Summer is workable but hot and muggy, with July highs averaging 89 degrees and heat indexes reaching 105 degrees, so you'll want a rig with strong air conditioning. Winters are mild, with January highs around 46 degrees, making Lakeland a great cold-weather escape for northern travelers. Pro tip: book an RV in early October to catch peak Memphis in October festivals plus genuinely beautiful weather.
weather.gov/meg/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
Yes, and Lakeland is a genuinely friendly place for a first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering propane, the generator, slide-outs, water hookups, and the dump valves, plus most provide a printed cheat sheet or video link to reference later. You can message your host anytime during the trip with questions, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every booking. For your first drive, the flat, well-marked roads around Lakeland and TN-385 are far easier than mountain routes. Pro tip: pick up your RV in the morning so you have plenty of daylight to practice driving and set up camp at a nearby park like Meeman-Shelby.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I break down or have trouble on the road?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you have a flat tire near Bartlett, a dead battery at Shelby Farms, or a tow situation on I-40. Call the roadside number provided in your booking confirmation, and a dispatcher will coordinate tire service, jump starts, fuel delivery, or towing to the nearest qualified shop. RVezy's support team is also reachable directly through the app before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number and your host's phone number to your contacts before you pull out of the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Lakeland RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Cross-state travel is wide open from Lakeland because you are right at the corner where Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas meet, and Memphis International Airport is just 25 minutes away. Most hosts happily allow trips throughout the lower 48 states. Travel into Canada is sometimes permitted with the host's written approval and confirmation of insurance coverage, so message the host before booking if that is your plan. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Popular routes from Lakeland include Tunica, Mississippi (45 minutes south), the Ozarks in Arkansas (3 hours west), and Cape Girardeau, Missouri (2.5 hours north).
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Lakeland RV trip?
Fuel is the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's predictable. Class B campervans typically deliver 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A rigs 6 to 10 mpg. Tennessee gas prices generally run slightly below the national average, and the corridor along I-40 east of Lakeland has plenty of large stations like Pilot, Loves, and TA travel centers that can accommodate big rigs. For a 400-mile loop through West Tennessee, expect $100 to $180 in fuel for a typical Class C. Pro tip: use the GasBuddy app and fuel up in Arkansas or Mississippi if your route loops south, where prices are often a few cents lower.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lakeland?
For peak weekends, book three to six months ahead, especially anywhere in the Tennessee State Parks system. Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park, the closest state park to Lakeland, releases reservations up to one year in advance through reserve.tnstateparks.com, and prime spring and fall weekends fill within weeks. Private parks like Memphis-South KOA and Tom Sawyer's RV Park usually have more last-minute availability, especially midweek. Festival weekends (Memphis in May, Beale Street Music Festival, World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest) are the toughest, so plan those four to six months out. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, search Sunday to Thursday arrivals. You'll find availability at parks that look fully booked on weekends.
tnstateparks.com/parks/meeman-shelbyWhat are the driving conditions like around Lakeland?
Driving around Lakeland is refreshingly easy compared to most metros. The town sits along US-64 and I-40 with wide lanes, gentle terrain, and well-maintained roads. Memphis traffic does get heavy on the I-240 loop during weekday rush hour (7 to 9 AM and 4 to 6 PM), so plan departures around it. Watch for sudden summer thunderstorms (June through August) and occasional winter ice events from December to February, which can briefly close bridges over the Wolf River. Avoid taking a tall RV into downtown Memphis; clearance at some Beale Street area underpasses is limited. Pro tip: take TN-385 (the Bill Morris Parkway) to bypass Memphis traffic entirely on your way east toward Nashville.
tn.gov/tdot/driver-how-do-i/check-current-road-conditions.htmlWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Lakeland?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped. Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park offers 30-amp electric and water at every site, several full-sewer pull-throughs, hot showers in renovated bathhouses, and a dump station for self-contained rigs. Memphis-South KOA has 50-amp full hookups, a pool, and laundry. Tom Sawyer's RV Park on the Mississippi River offers 50-amp full hookups with cable TV at most sites. Fresh water fills are standard at every park, and most have on-site propane refills or a partner shop within five miles. Pro tip: bring a 30-to-50-amp adapter and a 25-foot drinking-water hose. Site spacing varies, and a longer hose saves repositioning the rig.
tnstateparks.com/parks/meeman-shelbyWhat's typically included in a Lakeland RV rental?
Most motorhome rental Lakeland listings come ready to camp. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, comfortable sleeping for 4 to 8 depending on size, air conditioning and a furnace, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Many hosts include linens, cookware, and outdoor chairs as part of the base rate, while others offer them as inexpensive add-ons. Larger Class A and Class C rigs often include a generator, an outdoor TV, and a power awning. Pro tip: scroll through each listing's amenities checklist and message the host to confirm Wi-Fi hotspots, since cell coverage at Meeman-Shelby Forest can be spotty in the deeper sections.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakeland,TennesseeWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Lakeland RV rental?
Lakeland hosts offer a wide menu of add-ons to customize your campervan rental Lakeland experience. Common options include delivery and setup ($2 to $5 per mile), generator usage ($3 to $5 per hour beyond included hours), kitchen and bedding kits ($50 to $100 flat), bike racks, outdoor grills, and unlimited mileage upgrades. Pickup is typically at the host's home in Lakeland, Bartlett, or Cordova, but many will meet you at Memphis International Airport for a small fee. Check-in is usually mid-afternoon and dropoff is late morning, giving the host time to clean between guests. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a setup package on your first trip. Walking up to a fully-prepped RV with the awning out is pure magic.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakeland,TennesseeHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is handled securely through the RVezy platform; you will never need to hand cash or write a check to the host. When you book, your card is charged for the rental, fees, and chosen protection plan. A separate security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup and released after a successful return. The deposit is separate from the booking payment and covers things like excess cleaning, missing items, or damage not covered by the protection plan. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos and a short video at pickup and dropoff. That five-minute habit is the single best way to ensure your full deposit is released quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle summer heat and humidity in a Lakeland RV?
Lakeland summers are hot and humid, with July averaging 89 degrees and heat indexes climbing past 105, but a properly equipped RV handles it easily. Every motorhome on RVezy in this area comes with rooftop air conditioning, and campgrounds like Memphis-South KOA and Tom Sawyer's offer 50-amp service that lets you run AC and other appliances simultaneously. Drive early in the morning or after 6 PM to avoid the worst heat, park in the shade when possible, and use reflective window shades during midday. Pro tip: shoulder seasons (April, May, October) are the smart-money move; you'll get gorgeous weather, cheaper nightly rates, and your pick of campsites at Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park.
