Campgrounds and RV parks near Morristown, TN

Morristown sits in East Tennessee's Holston River Valley, on the south shore of Cherokee Lake and roughly an hour northeast of Knoxville. The lake and surrounding TVA-managed lands anchor most of the RV camping in the area, with the Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Dollywood all reachable as day trips. Cherokee Lake is a large TVA impoundment of the Holston River with hundreds of miles of shoreline, and water levels are drawn down each winter as part of TVA reservoir management. That drawdown pattern shapes the camping calendar: shoreline access is best during summer full pool, and TVA campgrounds close entirely once levels drop. RV travelers have a mix of options within a short drive. Panther Creek State Park sits on Cherokee Reservoir six miles west of Morristown, Cherokee Dam Campground occupies the south side of TVA's Cherokee Dam reservation in Jefferson City, and privately run sites such as Greenlees Fall Creek Campground, Dandridge Point RV Resort On The Lake, and Tana-See Campground round out the nearby inventory.

Reservation systems vary by campground operator. Reservations for Panther Creek State Park can be made through the Tennessee State Parks reservation system online, and booking early is recommended for the limited sewer sites. TVA campgrounds, including Cherokee Dam, are managed by Vista Recreation under a concessionaire agreement, with an online reservation system. All Cherokee Dam sites require a two-night minimum, and guests wishing to stay a single night must call the campground directly to request an exception. Private parks such as Greenlees Fall Creek Campground, Dandridge Point RV Resort On The Lake, and Tana-See Campground take reservations directly through their operator websites. Summer weekends and holidays around Independence Day and Labor Day book earliest, so reserve several months ahead for lake-view sites.
