Campgrounds and RV parks near Munford, TN

Fort Pillow focuses on Civil War history and river bluff hiking. The park preserves well-known breastworks and a reconstructed inner fort, plus a museum with Civil War artifacts, and provides sanctuary for deer, turkey, and bird species that draw regular bird watchers. Electric trolling motors are allowed on the 15-acre Fort Pillow Lake, gas motors must adhere to a no-wake policy, and the lake is stocked with bass, bream, crappie, and catfish. Meeman-Shelby Forest is the outdoor hub, with over 20 miles of hiking and biking trails through cypress swamps and hardwood forest, a 36-hole disc golf course split into two 18-hole layouts, and Poplar Tree Lake open for paddling and fishing. For families basing near Agricenter RV Park or Memphis Graceland RV Park and Campground, downtown Memphis, the Memphis Zoo, Beale Street, and Graceland are all within a short drive.

The Munford and Memphis area has a humid subtropical climate: cool but not bitterly cold winters, hot and humid summers, and a high degree of variability during spring and autumn, with fairly evenly spread precipitation year-round. Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel, while summer brings heat, humidity, and mosquito pressure along the river bottomlands. Severe weather is most likely during spring, from March through May, and secondarily in late fall. Renters planning March-through-May trips should watch forecasts for thunderstorms and monitor river levels, since Mississippi River flooding can affect low-lying park access roads near Meeman-Shelby Forest. Summer camping requires serious mosquito preparation, as the wetland location produces heavy swarms at dusk, so quality repellent is worth packing for warm-weather visits. State park campgrounds in the region generally remain open year-round, with winter offering the quietest bookings and cool but usable weather for shoulder-season trips.

State park sites in this area are wooded and shaded. Meeman-Shelby's campground spreads across multiple loops with sites that vary in length, and dense tree coverage provides shade but can create clearance challenges for larger rigs and awnings. All sites include water and electrical hookups, fire rings, grills, and picnic tables, with some sites offering sewer connections; a dump station serves sites without sewer hookups. Fort Pillow is more rustic, with a small Family Campground, nine primitive sites, and a backcountry site reached by trail. Cell service can be spotty in both parks, so downloading maps before arrival is wise. Tennessee State Parks asks that campers use firewood sold at the park or dead wood fallen near the campsite, and refrain from bringing untreated wood into the park.
