Campgrounds and RV parks near Oakville, TN

Graceland is the headline attraction and sits minutes from Memphis Graceland RV Park and Campground and Elvis Presley Blvd RV Park. From either base, downtown Memphis, Beale Street, Sun Studio, the Stax Museum, and the National Civil Rights Museum are all reachable in under half an hour. For outdoor time, Shelby Farms Park offers paved trails, lakes, and a bison enclosure on the east side of the city. Meeman-Shelby Forest sits atop the scenic Chickasaw Bluffs and features over 20 miles of hiking and biking trails through cypress swamps and hardwood forests, plus paddling on Poplar Tree Lake and a boat ramp on the Mississippi. Families traveling with kids often build a day around Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Memphis, using its pool and on-site activities between city outings. The Memphis Zoo, Children's Museum of Memphis, and Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid round out rainy-day options.

The Memphis area supports RV travel year-round, but conditions shift sharply by season. Most area campgrounds operate year-round, though summer humidity and mosquitoes can be challenging, particularly in wooded areas like Meeman-Shelby Forest, and winter camping is generally mild but can experience occasional freezing temperatures. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows. Late March through May brings blooming dogwoods, moderate temperatures, and active thunderstorm season, so travelers should watch severe-weather forecasts. Tennessee experiences a relatively high number of tornadoes, averaging approximately 21 tornadoes per year, and while tornadoes can occur in any month, they tend to peak in the spring. Fall, from mid-September into November, delivers cooler nights and lower humidity, and it aligns with peak foliage on the Chickasaw Bluffs. Summer is hot and humid, with frequent afternoon storms and heat indices well into the upper nineties; shaded sites and full-hookup power for air conditioning are worth prioritizing. Winter demand is lightest, and reservations at private parks near Graceland are usually easier to secure, though occasional cold snaps and freeze warnings mean RV renters should protect exposed water lines.

Private RV parks near Oakville are geared to travelers using Memphis as a destination or a stopover. Expect paved or gravel pull-through and back-in sites, full hookups at most locations, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Sites near Graceland tend to be closer together than at state park campgrounds, with the trade-off of walking-distance access to attractions. The Meeman-Shelby Forest campground provides 49 sites with electric and water hookups, and several sites include full sewer connections. Each site has a picnic table, grill, and fire ring. A modern bathhouse offers hot showers and flush toilets, and drinking water is available throughout the campground. A dump station serves RVs without sewer hookups. Cell coverage is strong across the Memphis metro but can be spotty inside the state park's bottomland forest. Tennessee State Parks asks that all campfires be made with heat-treated wood or downed wood collected inside the park, near the campsite, and asks visitors to refrain from bringing untreated wood into the park.
