Campgrounds and RV parks near Tazewell, TN

Tazewell sits in Claiborne County in northeast Tennessee, positioned between Norris Lake to the south and the Cumberland Mountains to the north. The town works well as an RV base for two very different trip types: lake recreation on Norris Lake, a TVA reservoir completed in 1936 with 809 miles of shoreline and 33,840 acres of water surface, and mountain touring at Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, located where Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia meet, covering roughly 24,000 acres with more than 85 miles of trails. Nearby campground options range from developed to primitive. Mountain Pass Campground and Mountain View Campground Speedwell serve travelers looking for straightforward RV sites close to town. Wilderness Road - Cumberland Gap National Historic Park is the closest federal option, roughly 20 miles north. Rock Bottom Horse Camp caters to equestrian visitors, and Marty's ATV Oasis LLC targets riders bringing off-road vehicles. Knoxville is roughly an hour south by road, making Tazewell a workable staging point for RVers combining Norris Lake, the Cumberland Gap, and day trips deeper into East Tennessee.

Wilderness Road - Cumberland Gap National Historic Park uses the federal reservation system. All Wilderness Road Campground campsites can be reserved through Recreation.gov as early as six months in advance, group camping sites can be reserved up to 12 months in advance, and reservations can also be made by calling 1-877-444-6777. All campsites must be booked and paid for through Recreation.gov, so first-come, first-served walk-up service is no longer offered. For hookups inside the park, focus on the 43 sites with 20-, 30-, and 50-amp electric hookups available in loops B and C.
