Campgrounds and RV parks near Argyle, TX

Water recreation is the main draw. Grapevine Lake covers roughly 7,276 acres and supports boating, fishing, hiking, and swimming at designated beaches such as the one at Meadowmere Park. Ray Roberts Lake spans about 29,000 acres and produces largemouth bass, crappie, white bass, and catfish. Lewisville Lake offers similar boating and fishing across a reservoir of comparable size. On land, the Northshore Trail at Grapevine Lake is a well-known mountain-biking and hiking route, and Ray Roberts Lake State Park adds hiking, biking, horseback riding, and backpacking options across its Isle du Bois and Johnson Branch units and the Greenbelt Corridor. Families can add day trips to historic downtown Grapevine, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, and Grapevine Mills, plus the University of North Texas campus and Denton square just north of Argyle.

Spring is the wettest stretch of the year in the Argyle area, with May typically the peak precipitation month. Thunderstorms, hail, and occasional tornado watches move through North Texas during this window, so travelers should monitor National Weather Service alerts and plan for muddy trails after storms. Wildflowers and mild temperatures make March through May a comfortable window for camping. Summers are hot and humid. July and August routinely bring average highs in the mid-90s and heat-index values above 100, and burn bans are common in Denton County during dry stretches. Full-hookup sites with 50-amp service are strongly preferred so RV air conditioning can run continuously. Fall brings a second sweet spot, with warm days, cool nights, and generally lower rainfall from late September into November. Winters are short and mostly mild, with occasional hard freezes. Most private RV parks and the Corps campgrounds around Grapevine and Lewisville stay open year-round, and Ray Roberts Lake State Park also operates year-round, though individual units can close briefly for scheduled hunts or maintenance.

Most private RV parks near Argyle offer paved or gravel pull-through and back-in sites with full hookups, including 30- and 50-amp service, water, and sewer. Wi-Fi and laundry are common but not guaranteed, so confirm at booking. Big-rig access is generally good along the US-377, I-35W, and I-35E corridors that frame the town. Corps and city campgrounds on Grapevine Lake are gated, with quiet hours strictly enforced and overnight gate closures typical. Hickory Creek accommodates larger RVs and provides hot showers, a dump station, and a boat ramp, though individual sites offer electric and water rather than full sewer hookups. Expect summer heat, hard limestone soils, and cedar or oak shade at the lake parks. Cell coverage is strong throughout the Argyle area, and grocery, fuel, and propane are easy to find in Argyle, Denton, Highland Village, and Flower Mound.
