Campgrounds and RV parks near Aubrey, TX

Ray Roberts Lake is the main outdoor draw. Anglers target largemouth bass, crappie, white bass, and catfish. Boat ramps, a fishing pier, and a swim beach serve the Isle du Bois unit, and wildlife viewing is a common highlight, with deer frequently reported around campsites. On land, the park has multi-use trails suitable for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, including the Lost Pines Trail and the paved Randy Bell Scenic Trail. The Greenbelt Corridor runs south along the Elm Fork of the Trinity River between Ray Roberts Dam and Lake Lewisville, with sections open to hikers, cyclists, and equestrians. Off the water, Aubrey and neighboring Pilot Point and Denton offer restaurants, shops, and horse-country scenery. Families can also pick up Texas State Parks Junior Ranger and Passport books at the park headquarters.

North Texas has a long RV season, but comfort varies sharply by month. Spring, from March through May, brings mild days, wildflowers, and the year's heaviest rainfall, with May typically the wettest month. Storms can be severe, so travelers should monitor forecasts and choose sites with good drainage. Summer is hot and humid. June through August routinely sees highs in the low to mid 90s Fahrenheit and overnight lows in the mid 70s, with August the hottest month on average. Lake use peaks, weekends fill early, and shaded sites in the state park's oak-covered loops are in demand. Burn bans are common during dry stretches, so campfire plans should be verified before arrival. Fall offers reliable RV weather: warm days, cooler nights, and lower humidity from late September through November. Winter is mild overall but windy, with occasional freezes and rare light snow. The Isle du Bois unit closes fully for a scheduled public hunt in mid-January, so check park notices when booking cold-season trips.

At Ray Roberts Lake State Park Isle du Bois, gates are closed between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Campers with reservations arriving after 5 p.m. must call the park before 5 p.m. for late-arrival gate code instructions. After-hours arrivals must register at park headquarters by 9 a.m. the following morning. Developed RV sites in the Quail Run loop include water and electric hookups, with pull-through options available for larger rigs. Restrooms and hot showers are on site, and paved trails wind through the campground. Deer are commonly seen among the sites, and cell service can be weak. Pets are welcome on leash but not inside buildings. Firewood movement is restricted due to a Denton County emerald ash borer quarantine, so buy firewood locally rather than transporting it in. Verify burn-ban status before lighting any campfire.
