Campgrounds and RV parks near Beckville, TX

Fishing is the main draw. Martin Creek Lake supports year-round bass and catfish angling, with warm water courtesy of a nearby power plant that keeps the fishery active through the cooler months. Lake Murvaul is regarded as a strong largemouth bass fishery, with bass regularly topping eight pounds along with healthy channel catfish and crappie numbers. On land, Main - Martin Creek Lake State Park has nearly four miles of hike-and-bike trails, including the Old Henderson Road Loop, which follows a former trade route between Henderson and Shreveport, and the 1.5-mile Harmony Hill Loop through a nationally registered historic district. Swimming areas, paddling, and ranger programs are available in season. In nearby Carthage, the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame and Tex Ritter Museum make an easy rainy-day stop for families basing out of Lake Murvaul Park & Marina or the Beckville-area RV parks.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in this part of East Texas. March through May brings warming temperatures, active bass fishing, and some of the region's heaviest rainfall, so travelers should build in flexibility for thunderstorms and occasional flash-flood watches. October and early November deliver cooler nights, hardwood color mixed in with the pines, and lower humidity. Summer is hot and humid, with August highs near the mid-nineties and elevated dew points. Lakeside sites at Main - Martin Creek Lake State Park and Lake Murvaul Park & Marina are the most tolerable because they offer swimming access and shaded pine cover, but afternoon thunderstorms are common and shade is worth prioritizing at booking. Winter is mild by national standards, with daytime highs typically in the upper fifties and lows near the upper thirties. Martin Creek Lake stays open year-round for camping and fishing, and the warm-water discharge from the adjacent power plant supports steady winter angling. Hard freezes are possible but brief, and measurable snow is rare.

Expect classic East Texas Piney Woods terrain: loblolly pine overhead, hardwood mixed in, and red-clay soil that can get slick after heavy rain. Sites at Main - Martin Creek Lake State Park and Lake Murvaul Park & Marina are generally shaded and level, with picnic tables and fire rings at most spots. Lake Murvaul offers 30/50-amp full hookups at all of its roughly seventy-five RV sites, while the state park is primarily water-and-electric. At the state park, the entrance gate is automatic and closes at ten in the evening, so late arrivals need to call the park office ahead for a four-digit gate code and then check in the following morning by nine to settle any remaining balance. Pets are welcome on leash in outdoor areas but are not permitted inside park buildings. Cell coverage is generally usable on major carriers but can be spotty in wooded loops, and firewood should be purchased locally because Panola County is under an emerald ash borer quarantine.
