Campgrounds near Briar, Texas
Briar is a census-designated place spanning parts of Parker, Tarrant, and Wise counties in North Texas, roughly a 30-minute drive northwest of Fort Worth and adjacent to Eagle Mountain Lake. The location puts RV renters within easy reach of both the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and a stretch of Cross Timbers lake country that fills quickly during warm months.
Options in the immediate area lean toward private, full-hookup RV parks rather than public campgrounds. Nearby choices include Clean Living RV Park, The Pines RV Community, Shady Lane RV Park, Eagle Creek Park, and Sun Ridge RV Park. Most sites offer 30/50-amp power, water, and sewer, with a mix of pull-through and back-in spots suitable for larger rigs.
For state-run camping, the closest option is Lake Mineral Wells State Park to the west, booked through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reservation system. Eagle Mountain Lake itself has three public boat ramps and several commercial facilities, some of which offer camping, swimming beaches, and other amenities.
Things to do near Briar
Eagle Mountain Lake is the main draw. Boat ramps and marinas ring the lake, and fishing is popular year-round, though TPWD warns that zebra mussels have invaded the reservoir, so boats, trailers, livewells, and gear must be cleaned, drained, and dried before moving to another water body, and draining water is required by law.
Families staying at Clean Living RV Park, The Pines RV Community, Shady Lane RV Park, Eagle Creek Park, or Sun Ridge RV Park can reach Fort Worth in about 30 to 40 minutes for the Fort Worth Zoo, the Stockyards, and the Kimbell and Modern Art Museums. Closer to the campgrounds, day trips include Lake Mineral Wells State Park for hiking and rock climbing at Penitentiary Hollow, and the LBJ National Grasslands to the north for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback trails.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel around Briar. Daytime highs run in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit through April and October, and wildflowers peak in April and early May. Spring is also the wettest and stormiest stretch of the year, with severe thunderstorms and tornadoes most frequent in North and Central Texas during March, April, and May, and a secondary severe-weather peak returning in October and November as stronger cold fronts move through.
Summer is hot. Afternoon highs regularly top 95 degrees Fahrenheit from June into September, and shaded sites and full hookups with reliable 50-amp power for air conditioning become important. Lake traffic peaks on weekends and holidays.
Winters are short and generally mild, with occasional cold fronts and rare ice events. Many private RV parks in the area operate year-round, but demand drops sharply from December through February, which makes last-minute booking easier.

This was our first time renting a RV. It drove like a truck or van, super easy! They were flexible on picking up as they stated. Our family really enjoyed being able to relax as we drove. We will definitely be renting from them again.

How to book
Private RV parks near Briar generally take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Weekend and holiday sites at lakefront properties fill first, so booking two to three months out is prudent for spring and summer stays, and further out for major holidays.
For public land, Lake Mineral Wells State Park and other TPWD sites are booked through the state reservation portal. Texas State Parks open reservations five months in advance on a rolling basis at 8:00 AM Central Time, which is shorter than most states, so timing is critical for popular parks. A campsite reservation does not cover park entry, so a separate day-use entry fee or a Texas State Parks Pass is required for each person. Group facilities, most ADA sites, and some park sites must be reserved by phone.
What to expect on the ground
Roads into the Briar area are paved and easy to navigate with a rented Class C or travel trailer, and most private parks in the corridor accommodate big rigs with pull-through sites. Expect standard 30/50-amp electric, potable water, and sewer at most listed properties, plus Wi-Fi at many. Cell coverage is generally strong given the proximity to Fort Worth.
Shade varies by park, and afternoon sun in summer is intense, so an awning and extra water are worthwhile. Ticks and chiggers are common in tall grass from spring through fall, and mosquitoes pick up after wet stretches.
Grocery, fuel, propane, and RV supply stops are available in Azle, Springtown, and along Highway 199 toward Fort Worth. Boat ramps around Eagle Mountain Lake can be crowded on summer weekends, so early arrivals are recommended.

July and August can climb past 100F, so plan for early-morning hikes and an RV with strong air conditioning. weather.gov/fwd/I've never rented an RV before. Is Briar a good place to start?
Briar is an excellent spot for first time renting an RV. You're in a quiet, semi-rural pocket northwest of Fort Worth with wide roads, easy access to Highway 199 and FM 730, and most major campgrounds are within a 30-minute drive, so you're not navigating big-city traffic on day one. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup covering propane, the freshwater system, slide-outs, and dump procedures, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with your protection plan. Pro tip: book a Class C motorhome or small travel trailer for your first Briar RV trip, they drive much like a large van, and aim for a Sunday-to-Thursday window when the roads are calm.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if I break down during my Briar RV trip?
You're covered. Your host is also a great second resource, they know their RV inside out and can troubleshoot quirky things like the inverter or fridge over the phone. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Briar RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Yes, you can take your RV rental from Briar across U.S. state lines, with Oklahoma just 90 minutes north, New Mexico about 8 hours west, and Louisiana around 5 hours east. Cross-border travel into Canada may be possible with advance written approval from your host and confirmation that insurance coverage extends north, so message the host before booking if that's your plan. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage do not apply south of the border. Popular RV road trip from Briar routes include Big Bend National Park, Hot Springs Arkansas, and a Route 66 stretch through Amarillo. Pro tip: confirm any out-of-state plans in the booking message thread so everything is documented.

Fuel is the biggest variable cost on any RV road trip from Briar, but it's easy to plan for. Expect a Class C motorhome to get roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon, a Class A around 6 to 8, a campervan rental in Briar around 14 to 18, and a truck pulling a travel trailer roughly 10 to 12. Regular unleaded around Briar and Azle is often below the national average thanks to nearby refineries. For a 300-mile weekend in a Class C, budget roughly $100 to $140 in fuel depending on current prices. Pro tip: fill up at larger highway stations along I-35W rather than smaller stations near the lake, you'll usually save a meaningful amount per gallon.

The area is rolling prairie with gentle hills, no mountain passes, and you'll mostly travel Highway 199 (Jacksboro Highway), FM 730, and Loop 820 once you head toward Fort Worth. Watch for occasional spring thunderstorms and the rare ice event in January or February. The Texas Department of Transportation posts real-time road conditions on DriveTexas.org. Crosswinds along open stretches of FM 730 can push a tall rig, so keep both hands on the wheel. Pro tip: avoid I-35W between Fort Worth and Denton during weekday rush hours, take Highway 287 north instead for a smoother ride out of the Briar area.

Briar is a fantastic launchpad for a family RV trip. You're about 25 minutes from the Fort Worth Stockyards (daily cattle drives, kid-friendly rodeos), 30 minutes from the Fort Worth Zoo, and 20 minutes from the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.
