Cooper Lake is the anchor activity. The reservoir covers roughly 19,000 acres and supports bass, catfish, and crappie fishing, along with boat ramps, swim beaches at the state park, and shoreline hiking. The South Sulphur Unit is known for its equestrian trails, and birding along the wooded coves is productive year round. In Greenville, families can visit the Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum, or use the town for groceries and fuel before heading out. Sulphur Springs, about twenty-five minutes east, has a walkable downtown square with restaurants and seasonal community events. On-park amenities at private campgrounds in the area typically include laundry, Wi-Fi, and pet-friendly common areas, useful when traveling with kids or dogs.

Spring is the busiest and greenest season around Campbell. March through May brings mild temperatures and the region's heaviest rain, with May typically the wettest month. Thunderstorms and occasional severe weather are common, so travelers should watch forecasts and pick sites with good drainage. Summer is hot and humid. Daytime highs routinely push into the mid-90s, and August is the warmest month. Shaded sites, working air conditioning, and an early-morning schedule for outdoor activities make a real difference. Cooper Lake State Park fills up on summer weekends and holidays, so reserve well ahead. Fall cools off gradually and is generally the best window for comfortable RV travel. Winters are cool rather than harsh, with lows dipping into the low-to-mid 30s and occasional freezes. Cooper Lake State Park is open year round, and most private parks along the I-30 corridor also operate year round, though weekday traffic drops considerably outside the warm-weather season.

Private campgrounds in the Campbell area are mostly pull-through, big-rig friendly, and geared to interstate travelers rather than remote camping. Expect full hookups, 30 and 50 amp service, gravel or grass pads, and basic amenities such as laundry, Wi-Fi, and dog-friendly common areas. Stinson RV Park and Resort and East Texas RV Park sit close to I-30 for easy on-and-off access. Cooper Lake State Park sites are shadier and more spread out. The park has 121 sites with water and electricity split between the Doctors Creek and South Sulphur units, plus screened shelters, cabins, and primitive walk-in and equestrian options. Hot showers, restrooms, and a dump station are on site. Cell coverage is generally reliable along the I-30 corridor and patchier at the lake. Bring bug spray from late spring through fall, and expect chiggers and ticks in tall grass.
