Camping near Canton, Texas
Canton sits in Van Zandt County in East Texas, about an hour east of Dallas along Interstate 20. The town is best known as the home of First Monday Trade Days, one of the largest outdoor flea markets in the United States, held monthly on the Thursday through Sunday preceding the first Monday of each month. That event drives most RV traffic to the area, and local campgrounds plan their calendars around it.
RV renters have several options within a short drive of downtown. Sumner RV Park and Canton RV - Old Mill Marketplace sit close to the trade grounds for shoppers who want a short walk or shuttle ride. Mill Creek Ranch RV and Cottage Resort, Canton KOA Holiday, and Rolling Oaks RV Park offer larger resort-style stays with more amenities and quieter surroundings between events.
Beyond the market, the region also serves as a base for lake trips and state park visits. Purtis Creek State Park sits about 40 miles south, and Tyler State Park and Cooper Lake State Park are roughly an hour away, giving families day-trip range without moving the rig.
Things to do around Canton
The main draw is First Monday Trade Days itself. The grounds cover hundreds of acres with thousands of vendors selling antiques, handmade crafts, vintage collectibles, tools, clothing, furniture, and food, with attendance regularly reaching tens of thousands over the weekend. Saturday is the busiest day, so families often shop Thursday or Friday for a calmer pace.
Outside market weekends, the surrounding area supports fishing, boating, and hiking. The 355-acre lake at Purtis Creek State Park holds largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie, with fishing piers, a boat launch, walking and biking trails, and a swim area. Lake Tawakoni to the north covers roughly 38,000 acres for swimming, fishing, and boating, with miles of shoreline trails and abundant birdlife. YesterLand Farm near Canton runs seasonal family programming in fall and spring.

Trade Days runs every month of the year, but spring and fall bring the strongest turnout and the tightest campground availability. Spring weather in East Texas is warm but not yet at peak summer heat, vendors stock fresh inventory, and crowds bring high energy to the grounds. October and November offer similar conditions with cooler nights, making them popular with RV renters traveling with kids.
Summer is hot and humid. Afternoon highs regularly push into the 90s Fahrenheit from June through August, and campgrounds with pools and shade fill quickly. July Trade Days typically draws smaller crowds because of the heat, which can be an advantage for families willing to shop early in the morning.
Winter is mild by North American standards but not warm. Days from December to February are generally mild with many sunny afternoons, though nights can drop below freezing. Severe weather season peaks in spring, when thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes move through East Texas.

Booking a campground near Canton
For Trade Days weekends, book early. Sites at Mill Creek Ranch RV and Cottage Resort, Canton KOA Holiday, and Sumner RV Park often fill weeks in advance for spring and fall markets. Canton RV - Old Mill Marketplace sits on the trade grounds and follows the market calendar, generally opening for the Thursday-through-Sunday window each month. Rolling Oaks RV Park offers a quieter alternative when close-in parks are full.
State parks in the region use the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system. Texas State Parks open reservations 5 months in advance on a rolling basis at 8:00 AM Central Time. For popular parks and peak weekends, booking exactly five months out the day the window opens is often necessary. Reservations can be made online through the TPWD site or by phone.
What to expect on-site
Most Canton-area RV parks offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, level pads, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Mill Creek Ranch RV and Cottage Resort offers cabin rentals, pull-through and back-in RV sites, level concrete pads, full hookups, showers, restrooms, laundry, and a store. Concrete pads are common at the newer resorts, while some older parks use gravel or grass.
Sites near the trade grounds can be tight during market weekends, and noise levels rise with vendor setup on Wednesday and Thursday. Parks farther out trade convenience for quiet. Pets are welcome at most properties on leash, and many parks include dog runs, pools, and playgrounds. Cell coverage is generally strong across the area, though speeds can slow on peak Trade Days weekends when local networks are heavily loaded.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Canton, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Canton, TX?
RV rental in Canton, TX is surprisingly affordable, with most travel trailers starting around $80 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes averaging $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A coaches running $250 to $400 per night on RVezy. Because hosts set their own pricing, you can filter by price range to find a cheap RV rental Canton shoppers love for First Monday Trade Days. Pro tip: rates climb sharply during the Thursday through Sunday before the first Monday of each month, so book a midweek or non-Trade Days weekend for the best deals. Booking three to four weeks in advance also helps you lock in lower nightly rates before the Van Zandt County inventory tightens up.
visitcantontx.com/rv-parksDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Canton, TX?
A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Canton for almost every rig on RVezy. Texas only requires a non-commercial Class A or Class B license for RVs with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of rentals on the platform, including campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers, fall comfortably under that limit. You'll also need to be 25 or older, and ID verification happens right inside the RVezy booking flow. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home country license and you're set to hit Trade Days Boulevard.

Every RV rental in Canton booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on hunting antiques at First Monday Trade Days instead of worrying about the what-ifs. You choose your protection tier at checkout (not the host), picking the level of coverage that fits your trip. Each plan covers damage to the RV up to the plan's limits and includes roadside support for things like flat tires, lockouts, and jump-starts. Pro tip: review the plan details on the booking page so you know exactly what's covered before you roll out toward Van Zandt County.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Canton, TX RV rental?
Every RV rental in Canton booked through RVezy is backed by a clear cancellation policy set by RVezy, not the individual host. Refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date, and the full policy details are presented during checkout before you confirm payment. If severe weather or a host cancellation disrupts your plans, RVezy support can help with refunds or travel credits. Pro tip: book early to lock in your Trade Days weekend, then contact RVezy support right away if your dates shift so they can walk you through your options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Canton RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Canton options are plentiful on RVezy, you just filter for Pet-Friendly when browsing listings. Many Canton-area hosts welcome dogs (sometimes for a small pet fee), and the surrounding area is genuinely dog-friendly: First Monday Trade Days allows leashed pets on the outdoor grounds, Wagon Train RV Park has a fenced dog park, and both Tyler State Park and Purtis Creek State Park allow leashed pets on trails and at campsites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet details and ask about shaded sites, summer heat at Canton's 489-foot elevation can get intense on the pavement for paws.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/petsCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Canton?
Yes, RV delivery Canton is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters heading to First Monday Trade Days. Many Canton-area hosts will drive the RV directly to Canton Marketplace RV Park, Mill Creek Ranch Resort, Canton I-20 RV Park, or even your private property, level it, hook up water/sewer/electric, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means no towing, no backing into tight Trade Days vendor-row sites, and no setup stress. Pro tip: delivery fees usually scale with distance, so picking a host based near Canton, Wills Point, or Tyler keeps your delivery charge low.
visitcantontx.com/rv-parksHow does mileage work for an RV rental in Canton, TX?
Most Canton hosts include a daily mileage allowance (typically 100 to 150 free miles per day) with optional unlimited mileage add-ons available, which is plenty for a classic Canton RV trip. For reference, Canton sits right off Interstate 20 about 60 miles east of downtown Dallas, 35 miles west of Tyler, and 95 miles from Shreveport, Louisiana, so a weekend Trade Days run barely scratches your allowance. If you're planning a longer East Texas loop through Caddo Lake or Big Thicket, look for listings tagged with RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pro tip: confirm the mileage policy on the listing page before booking, every host sets their own.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat's a good road trip route from Canton, TX in an RV?
An RV road trip from Canton opens up some of Texas's best Piney Woods and lake country. Popular runs include Tyler State Park (25 miles east, about 35 minutes) for towering loblolly pines and lakefront sites; Caddo Lake State Park (about 110 miles east, 2 hours) for cypress swamps and bayou paddling; Lake Tawakoni State Park (35 miles north, 45 minutes) for big-water fishing; and a Dallas/Fort Worth loop just 60 miles west for Six Flags and Stockyards stops. Heading into Mexico isn't covered by RVezy insurance, so keep the trip in-state or step over to Louisiana and Oklahoma. Pro tip: pair Canton's First Monday Trade Days with two nights at Tyler State Park for a perfect long weekend.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/caddo-lakeHow much should I budget for fuel on a Canton RV trip?
Fuel is one of the biggest variable costs on any Canton RV trip, so plan ahead. As of mid-2026, Texas regular unleaded averages around $4.00 per gallon, and most rental motorhomes get roughly 8 to 12 miles per gallon (campervans squeeze out 15 to 18 MPG, while big Class A coaches sip closer to 7 MPG). A typical 250-mile weekend round trip from Dallas to Canton and back will run $80 to $120 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up off the interstate in Canton or Terrell where prices tend to run 10 to 20 cents cheaper than in DFW, and use the Buc-ee's in Terrell for the cleanest, fastest pump stop.
gasprices.aaa.com/?state=TXHow far in advance should I book a campground around Canton?
For First Monday Trade Days weekends, book your campground as soon as your dates are confirmed, ideally three to six months out. The on-site First Monday Trade Days RV Park (903-567-6556) opens reservations at 8 a.m. on the Tuesday following each show and has a three-night minimum during event weekends. Texas State Parks like Tyler and Purtis Creek open their booking window five months in advance through the Texas Parks & Wildlife reservation system, and lakefront sites at Tyler State Park fill within minutes for spring and fall weekends. Pro tip: for non-Trade Days weekends, even a two-week lead time is usually plenty at private parks like Canton I-20 RV Park or Wagon Train RV Park.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around Canton, TX?
Driving conditions around Canton are genuinely easy by RV standards. Interstate 20 cuts right through town with wide lanes and gentle grades, and State Highway 19, FM 859, and Trade Days Boulevard handle the local Trade Days traffic well outside of show weekends. Watch for spring thunderstorms (April through June can bring tornadoes and hail in Van Zandt County), and slow down on the rural farm-to-market roads where deer crossings are common at dawn and dusk. Trade Days weekends can clog Highway 19 from Thursday afternoon onward. Pro tip: pull into Canton on Wednesday or arrive after 7 p.m. on Thursday to skip the worst of the vendor and shopper traffic.
drivetexas.org/What amenities should I expect at Canton-area campgrounds?

Mill Creek Ranch Resort adds a pool, fishing pond, and cabins; Wagon Train RV Park has a fenced dog park, fishing pond, and a 40-person storm shelter (a real plus during East Texas spring storms); and First Monday Trade Days RV Park has a dump station right at the Flea Market Road entrance. Tyler State Park and Purtis Creek State Park offer water/electric sites plus dump stations and potable-water fills near the entrances. Pro tip: top off your fresh-water tank before leaving the campground since not every Trade Days vendor site has a fill spigot nearby.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/purtis-creek/fees-facilities/campsitesWhat's actually inside a typical Canton motorhome rental?
A typical motorhome rental Canton listing on RVezy comes ready to camp: a queen or king bed, full kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, dinette and couch that often convert to extra beds, roof AC, propane furnace, and seatbelts for everyone traveling. Most rentals also include a TV, and many hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, and onboard generators (great for boondocking near the Trade Days overflow lot). Class B campervans are more compact but still pack a wet bath and small galley. Pro tip: check the listing's amenity icons and read the host's description to confirm bed configurations and sleeps count before booking your family RV trip Canton crew.

When you rent an RV in Canton, popular host add-ons include linen and kitchen packages ($35 to $75), outdoor camping kits with chairs and grills ($25 to $50), generators for off-grid Trade Days overflow camping ($25 to $50 per day), and bike racks. Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Canton, Tyler, Mineola, or the Dallas area, with delivery available to any local campground or the Trade Days RV grounds for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies range from 100 free miles per day to full unlimited mileage. Pro tip: message the host through the listing 48 hours before pickup to coordinate orientation timing, especially during busy Trade Days weekends when hosts juggle multiple turnovers.
tdlr.texas.gov/mvi/mvi.htmHow do payment and the security deposit work for a Canton, TX RV rental?
Payment for your Canton RV rental is handled securely through the RVezy platform, never directly with the host. Your card is charged through RVezy at booking, and most hosts also require a refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the rig) that's held separately and released after the host confirms the RV was returned in good condition. Avoid issues by doing a thorough walk-around photo session at pickup and drop-off, refilling fuel and propane per the host's instructions, and dumping the tanks before return when required. Pro tip: keep all communication and receipts in the RVezy message thread so everything is timestamped and documented.
