Camping near Celeste, Texas
Celeste is a small city in northwest Hunt County, on U.S. Highway 69 about ten miles northwest of Greenville and roughly an hour northeast of the Dallas metroplex. The town itself has no large campground, but several private RV parks sit within a short drive, and two Texas state parks with hookup camping are inside a reasonable day-trip radius. The area lies on the Blackland Prairie, with rolling farmland, cattle country, and two large reservoirs, Lake Tawakoni and Cooper Lake, that anchor most of the outdoor recreation.
Closer to town, private RV parks including Holiday Road Travel Center, Countryside RV Park, North Texas RV Park, East Texas RV Park, and Nature Trails Staycation offer sites for travelers who want a quiet base close to Celeste, Greenville, and Commerce. These parks tend to draw a mix of overnighters passing through on U.S. 69 and longer-stay guests working in the region.
Campers using Celeste as a base can reach McKinney and the north Dallas suburbs in about forty minutes, and Lake Texoma or the Piney Woods in under two hours.
Things to do around Celeste
Most trip planning here centers on the water. Lake Tawakoni, about an hour southeast, is a 37,879-acre reservoir on the Sabine River known for catfish, bass, and crappie, with a four-lane boat ramp inside Lake Tawakoni State Park and nearly five miles of hiking trails through post oak woodland. Cooper Lake, about an hour east, has two state park units, Doctors Creek and South Sulphur, offering swimming beaches, boat ramps, and fishing piers, plus the 10.5-mile Buggy Whip Equestrian Trail on the South Sulphur side.
Closer in, families visit the Northeast Texas Children's Museum in Commerce and small-town squares in Greenville and Sulphur Springs. Bird watching is strong year-round, with more than 200 recorded species at Lake Tawakoni State Park.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to camp near Celeste. From mid-March through May, daytime highs run in the 70s and 80s and wildflowers bloom across the prairie, but this is also the peak of severe-weather season in north Texas, with thunderstorms, hail, and tornado watches all common, and May is typically the wettest month of the year.
Summer brings hot, humid conditions, with July and August highs regularly in the mid-90s and heat indices well above 100. State park campsites still book heavily on weekends, especially at Lake Tawakoni and Cooper Lake, where lake access drives demand. Water levels can drop and burn bans are common in late summer.
Fall cools off after mid-September and offers the best mix of mild temperatures, lower humidity, and lighter crowds. Winters are generally mild with January lows around freezing, occasional cold snaps, and a handful of icy days each year. Texas state parks stay open year-round, and Lake Tawakoni State Park offers monthly extended-stay rates on hookup sites during the winter months.

Booking a campsite near Celeste
Private RV parks near Celeste, including Holiday Road Travel Center, Countryside RV Park, North Texas RV Park, East Texas RV Park, and Nature Trails Staycation, are booked directly with each park by phone or through their websites. Weeknight sites are usually available on short notice, while summer weekends and holidays fill earlier.
Texas state parks such as Lake Tawakoni and Cooper Lake use the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system at texasstateparks.org. Overnight sites can be reserved up to five months in advance, and both parks strongly recommend reserving day-use passes as well as campsites because they regularly reach capacity. Payment is collected in full at booking, and reservations that are not checked in by noon the day after arrival may be cancelled. For popular loops such as Spring Point at Lake Tawakoni and Deer Haven at Cooper Lake South Sulphur, plan to book the moment the five-month window opens for spring and fall weekends.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Celeste is flat to gently rolling, with black clay soils that turn slick and sticky after heavy rain. Private RV parks in Hunt County are generally small and utilitarian, with gravel or gravel-and-asphalt pads, 30 and 50-amp hookups, and basic laundry and shower facilities rather than resort amenities. Cell coverage is generally strong across the county on major carriers.
At the state parks, sites are more spread out and shaded, but reservation windows fill fast. The gate at Lake Tawakoni is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and late arrivals must call the park before 5 p.m. on the arrival date for instructions. Bring insect repellent from spring through fall, keep pets leashed at all times, and check for active burn bans before planning a campfire. Grocery runs are easiest in Greenville, Commerce, or Sulphur Springs.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Celeste, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Celeste, TX?
RV rental in Celeste, TX is more affordable than you might think, especially compared to big-city Dallas pickups about 60 miles southwest. Travel trailers typically start around $80 to $130 per night, Class C motorhomes run $150 to $250, and larger Class A rigs land between $250 and $400. Booking midweek (Sunday through Thursday) and traveling in the shoulder months of March, April, or October can trim 15 to 25 percent off peak summer rates. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book listings near Greenville or Commerce to compare prices quickly, and message hosts about weekly discounts for longer Hunt County stays. Many first-timers are surprised how much value a Celeste RV trip delivers compared to hotels plus restaurants.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Celeste,%20TexasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Celeste, TX?
Good news: your regular Class C driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Celeste, TX, whether you're driving a campervan, travel trailer, or a 32-foot Class A motorhome. Texas does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal-use RVs under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every rig on RVezy. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and ID verification happens through the RVezy platform when you book. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association along with your home license. That's it, no RV school, no test, just pack and go.

Every RV rental in Celeste, TX comes with an RVezy renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the back roads of Hunt County with real peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, which means a stray tree branch at Cooper Lake or a minor parking scrape won't ruin your vacation. During booking, you choose the protection level that fits your comfort, this is set by RVezy, not the host. It's specifically designed for peer-to-peer RV rentals and removes the biggest worry most first-timers bring up. Pick your plan at checkout and you're covered.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Celeste RV trip?
Life happens, and RVezy is built for it. Every booking uses a cancellation policy set by RVezy (not the individual host), with a money-back grace period right after you book so you have breathing room to finalize plans. If a North Texas ice storm hits Hunt County, a severe weather event affects your dates, or a host needs to cancel, the RVezy team reviews those situations directly and can issue refunds or travel credits. You'll see the full cancellation details during checkout before you confirm, so there are no surprises. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Celeste RV rental, knowing you have flexibility if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Celeste?
Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Celeste is easy to find, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see listings where dogs (and sometimes cats) are welcome. Hunt County is genuinely dog-friendly: Cooper Lake State Park has miles of leashed trails, and the Bois d'Arc Lake area to the southeast has open shorelines great for fetch. Bring a tie-out line, collapsible water bowls, and a copy of vaccination records since Texas state parks may ask at check-in. Pro tip: message the host before booking if you have a larger breed, most are flexible, and many even leave a welcome treat. Your pup will love the wide-open Blackland Prairie skies.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/cooper-lakeCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Celeste?
Yes, RV delivery in Celeste is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will tow or drive the rig directly to your campsite at Cooper Lake State Park, Lake Tawakoni, or a private property near Greenville or Commerce, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. Delivery fees commonly run $2 to $4 per mile round trip, and some hosts offer free delivery within a set radius of Celeste. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see options instantly. Pro tip: ask for a setup-and-pickup package so you skip the driving entirely and just enjoy the trip.

Extra miles typically cost $0.30 to $0.45 each if you go over. Pro tip: if you're planning a multi-state loop, message the host before booking and ask about an RV rental with unlimited mileage, it's often cheaper than paying per-mile overages.

Lake Texoma's Eisenhower State Park (about 60 miles northwest) is a North Texas favorite with marina access. Closer to home, Greenville's American RV Park and parks near Quinlan offer pull-through sites with full hookups. Pro tip: book Texas state parks up to 5 months in advance through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, weekends fill fast, especially spring through fall.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/find-a-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Celeste?
The sweet spots for a Celeste RV trip are mid-March through May and late September through early November, when Hunt County daytime highs sit in the comfortable 65 to 80°F range and evenings are cool enough for a campfire. Spring brings Texas bluebonnet and Indian paintbrush blooms across the Blackland Prairie. Fall delivers crisp mornings and excellent fishing at Cooper Lake. Summer (June through August) is hot and humid with regular 95°F+ days, so book a rig with strong air conditioning and a 30/50-amp campsite. Winters are mild but variable, with occasional ice events in January, making the shoulder seasons the smart-money pick. Pro tip: October weekends near Cooper Lake are hard to beat.
weather.gov/fwd/I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay renting in Celeste?
You're going to do great. Celeste is one of the easier places in North Texas for first time renting an RV. The roads around Hunt County (US-69, TX-34, and the wide farm-to-market routes) are flat, lightly trafficked, and easy to maneuver, with none of the Dallas freeway stress. Every RVezy host gives you a full pre-trip orientation, walking you through driving tips, leveling, slide-outs, water systems, and the propane setup before you leave. Many hosts also share a video walkthrough you can rewatch at the campsite. Pro tip: start with a travel trailer under 25 feet or a Class C motorhome, message your host with any questions, and plan a short shake-down loop to Lake Tawakoni before any longer adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every motorhome rental in Celeste includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the RVezy protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and mechanical breakdowns wherever your trip takes you across Texas. If a slide-out sticks at Cooper Lake late at night or a tire blows on US-69, one phone call connects you with help. Your host is also a direct text away through the RVezy app for quick questions like resetting the inverter or finding the water heater switch. RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone the morning of pickup.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Celeste RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Absolutely, an RV road trip from Celeste is built for crossing state lines. You're a short drive from Oklahoma (about 40 miles north via US-69), Arkansas (about 250 miles east), and Louisiana (around 280 miles southeast), all fair game with standard RVezy coverage. Popular multi-state loops include Hot Springs National Park, the Ozarks, and New Orleans. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because the protection plan and insurance do not extend across the border. If you're planning to cross into Oklahoma or beyond, give your host a heads-up so they know your route. Pro tip: Broken Bow, Oklahoma is only about 3 hours from Celeste and a fantastic long-weekend trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will fuel cost for my Celeste RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable in your RV budget, and Celeste sits in one of the more affordable gas regions in the country, with Hunt County prices typically running below the national average. Expect roughly 7 to 10 MPG for Class A motorhomes, 10 to 14 MPG for Class C, 18 to 22 MPG for campervans, and 12 to 16 MPG for trucks towing travel trailers. For a 300-mile round trip to Lake Texoma and back, budget around $100 to $180 in fuel depending on rig size and current prices. Pro tip: fill up at the Buc-ee's in Royse City or the larger truck stops along I-30 in Greenville, the prices often beat small-town pumps and the lanes are RV-friendly.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Celeste?
For Texas state parks like Cooper Lake, Lake Tawakoni, and Eisenhower, you can book up to 5 months ahead through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reservation system, that's when the booking window opens and prime weekend sites can disappear within hours, especially March through October. Private parks like American RV Park in Greenville are more flexible and often have sites available 2 to 4 weeks out. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day) are the toughest, lock those in the day reservations open. Pro tip: if a state park is full, set a cancellation alert on the TPWD site, spots open up daily as plans change, and a midweek pivot often scores you the best lakeside site.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around Celeste, TX?
Driving an RV around Celeste is genuinely relaxing. You're in rural North Texas where the Blackland Prairie is flat to gently rolling, the wind is mostly manageable, and the country roads are wide. Main routes (US-69, TX-34, TX-11) handle big rigs easily. Watch for sudden spring thunderstorms (March through May) that can bring hail and strong crosswinds, and slow down for the occasional ice glaze in January. For a large Class A motorhome, consider parking at a Hunt County campground and driving a tow car or rideshare into downtown Dallas or Fort Worth. Pro tip: check DriveTexas.org before any cross-state leg, it shows real-time closures and weather alerts statewide.
drivetexas.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Celeste?
Local campgrounds make RV camping in Celeste extra easy. Cooper Lake State Park offers 30/50-amp full hookups, dump stations, potable water fill, hot showers, and a swim beach. Lake Tawakoni State Park has water and electric at most sites with a centralized dump station. Private parks like American RV Park in Greenville typically include full hookups, Wi-Fi, laundry, and propane refills onsite. Most Hunt County campgrounds have potable water spigots at each site, but always fill your freshwater tank before heading to more remote spots near Bois d'Arc Lake. Pro tip: the dump station at Cooper Lake's South Sulphur Unit is available for registered campers, knock it out on your way home to return the RV clean.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/cooper-lakeWhat's included inside a typical RV rental in Celeste?
Most RVs on RVezy in Celeste come fully equipped and ready to camp. Expect comfortable sleeping for 2 to 8 (queen beds, bunks, convertible dinettes), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate-controlled air conditioning and furnace heat, and proper seatbelts for travel. Many rigs include flat-screen TVs, Bluetooth stereos, outdoor speakers, awnings, and onboard generators for boondocking, and a growing number of hosts offer Starlink or hotspot Wi-Fi (handy since cell signal can be spotty around Cooper Lake). Pro tip: review the listing's amenities list carefully and message the host if you need something specific like a coffee maker, high chair, or extra bedding, most are happy to include it.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Celeste,%20TexasWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Celeste RV rental?
Hosts in Celeste offer add-ons that make your trip smoother. Common options include bedding and linen packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits with pots and utensils ($25 to $50), portable generators ($25 to $50 per day), bike racks, propane fire pits, camping chairs, outdoor grills, and pet packages with bowls and beds. Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on for first-timers. Pickup typically happens between 1 and 4 p.m., dropoff by 11 a.m., though many hosts are flexible if you ask in advance. Mileage allowances often start at 100 free miles per night with unlimited mileage options available. Pro tip: bundle delivery, linens, and a kitchen kit, you'll arrive at Cooper Lake with nothing to set up except your camp chair.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Celeste,%20TexasHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Celeste RV rental?
Payment for your RV rental in Celeste, TX is handled entirely through the secure RVezy platform, no cash, no checks, no off-platform transfers with the host. You'll pay your rental total at booking using a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to over a thousand dollars depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the rig is returned in good shape. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video with your host at both pickup and dropoff, it documents the condition and is the best way to ensure your full deposit comes back fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's the cheapest way to rent an RV in Celeste?
For a cheap RV rental in Celeste, your best lever is the calendar: book Sunday through Thursday nights in March, April, October, or early November and you'll often see rates well below summer weekends. Travel trailers are usually the most budget-friendly option, especially if you already own a tow-capable truck or book one with delivery so you don't need to tow at all. Filter by price low-to-high on RVezy, sort for Instant Book to skip back-and-forth messaging, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pro tip: a 4-night midweek trip to Cooper Lake in a delivered travel trailer often costs less than a 2-night Dallas hotel stay, and you get a lakeside campfire instead of a parking garage.
