Campgrounds near Collinsville, Texas
Collinsville sits in southwestern Grayson County in North Texas, roughly an hour north of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and within short driving distance of two major reservoirs: Lake Ray Roberts to the south and Lake Texoma along the Oklahoma border to the north. The area is dominated by cross-timbers woodland, ranchland, and long stretches of shoreline, which shapes most of the local camping.
RV renters have a mix of options nearby. Private, full-hookup parks such as Whitesboro RV Resort, Four Aces Hwy 82 RV Park, Texoma RV Oasis, and Shark Tooth RV Ranch cater to travelers who want pull-through sites, sewer, and easy highway access. For a state-park experience, the Walnut - Johnson Branch - Ray Roberts Lake State Park loop offers reservable sites on the lake's north shore.
Because Collinsville sits between two large lake systems, most itineraries combine a private park stay with day trips for fishing, swimming, or hiking on the reservoir units.
Things to do near Collinsville
Water recreation drives most trips. Lake Texoma spans the Texas-Oklahoma border and supports striper fishing, boating, and swimming, with commercial marinas and Corps of Engineers day-use areas on both shores. Lake Ray Roberts covers roughly 29,000 acres and offers beaches, paddling, and shoreline fishing within the state park.
On land, Ray Roberts Lake State Park has multiuse trails at Johnson Branch and Isle du Bois, plus the 20-mile Greenbelt Corridor that runs from the Ray Roberts Dam to Lake Lewisville along the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. Portions of the corridor are open to horses, and other stretches are hike-and-bike only.
Wildlife viewing is strong in cooler months: Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge on Lake Texoma draws migrating geese, ducks, shorebirds, and bald eagles each year.

- winter
December - February
55° / 36°F 55 mmMild but freeze-prone, with occasional ice storms
Spring is the wettest stretch. May in particular delivers the heaviest rainfall of the year, and North Texas thunderstorms can bring hail and localized flooding. Wildflowers peak in April, and lake levels are usually high, which is good for boating but can close low-lying shoreline sites.
Summer is hot and busy. Daytime highs commonly reach the mid-90s Fahrenheit through July and August, and lakeside sites at Ray Roberts fill quickly on weekends and around the July 4 holiday. Burn bans are common in Grayson and Cooke counties during dry summer stretches, so wood and charcoal fires may be prohibited even when propane cooking is still allowed.
Fall brings the most comfortable camping weather, with cooler nights, lower humidity, and strong fishing on both lakes. Winter is mild but variable: freezes occur, occasional ice storms happen, and some private parks reduce services or hours between December and February.

How to book campgrounds near Collinsville
Reservations at Ray Roberts Lake State Park, including the Walnut and Johnson Branch loops, are handled through the Texas State Parks reservation system operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Standard campsites can typically be booked up to five months in advance on a rolling window that opens at 8 a.m. Central. A per-person daily entrance fee applies in addition to the campsite fee.
Corps of Engineers campgrounds around Lake Texoma are booked on Recreation.gov, where reservation windows open several months out and popular weekends fill early.
Private parks such as Whitesboro RV Resort, Four Aces Hwy 82 RV Park, Texoma RV Oasis, and Shark Tooth RV Ranch are booked directly with the operator or through third-party platforms.
What to expect on-site
Private RV parks near Collinsville generally provide 30/50-amp full hookups, Wi-Fi, laundry, and pet areas, with pull-through sites suited to larger rigs. Roads are paved or gravel, and most parks sit close to US-82, US-377, or I-35, which keeps arrivals straightforward for first-time RV renters.
At Ray Roberts Lake State Park's Johnson Branch unit, expect a mix of sites with water and electric hookups plus primitive and walk-in options. Many sites are cut into natural terrain, and campers may want a cart because some spots involve a carry from the parking area. Park gates are closed between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., and late arrivals should call the park in advance for entry instructions.
Cell coverage is generally reliable near town but can be spotty in shoreline loops.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Collinsville, TX?
RV rental in Collinsville is affordable, with most travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night and Class C motorhomes typically running $175 to $275 per night on RVezy. Pricing depends on rig size, season, and add-ons like generators or kitchen kits. To score a cheap RV rental in Collinsville, target shoulder seasons (March to early May or late September to October) when temperatures are comfortable for Lake Ray Roberts and weekend pricing softens. Pro tip: book a midweek pickup and return on a Sunday evening, since many Grayson County hosts discount 4 to 6 night stays. Filter by Instant Book to see hosts who respond fastest, lock in your dates, and start planning the trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Collinsville,%20TexasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Collinsville?
Good news, your everyday Class C driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Collinsville, no commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement required in Texas, even for larger Class A motorhomes. The Texas Department of Public Safety treats motorhomes as personal vehicles regardless of length. To book on RVezy you must be 25 or older with a valid license, and you'll confirm your ID through the platform during checkout, so there's no awkward paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit. That's it, you're cleared to hit FM 922 toward Lake Ray Roberts.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection and roadside help comes with my Collinsville RV rental?
Every RVezy booking in Collinsville comes with a built-in protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can roll out toward Ray Roberts Lake with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers accidental damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during booking (not the host) so you can pick what fits your family. Roadside help is one phone call away if you get a flat on Highway 377 or need a jump at a Whitesboro fuel stop. That's a meaningful safety net for anyone renting a motorhome in Collinsville for the first time. Book with confidence, the protection follows you the whole way.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is RVezy's cancellation policy for a Collinsville RV trip?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy, and every reservation includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates without second-guessing. After that window, refund amounts depend on how far out you cancel, with extra flexibility built in for extenuating circumstances like natural disasters, helpful since North Texas weather can swing fast in spring storm season. You'll see the full policy clearly during checkout, no fine print surprises. The bottom line: it's safe to reserve your Collinsville RV rental now, even if your plans aren't 100% locked, so the perfect rig doesn't get scooped up by someone else.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Collinsville RV rental?

Most hosts ask for a small pet fee or a refundable cleaning deposit, which you'll see clearly on the listing before you book. Your pup will love it here: Ray Roberts Lake State Park allows leashed dogs on trails, beaches, and in campsites, and the wide-open Greenbelt Corridor is a 20-mile multi-use trail perfect for morning walks. Pro tip: message the host about your specific breed and size before booking, it speeds up approval and shows you're a thoughtful guest.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/petsCan the RV be delivered to my campground or property near Collinsville?
Yes, RV delivery in Collinsville is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip towing or driving a big rig. Many local hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome or travel trailer directly at Ray Roberts Lake State Park (Isle du Bois or Johnson Branch units), Lake Texoma campgrounds, or even a private property or wedding venue around Collinsville. Delivery fees are typically based on mileage from the host's location, and you'll see them upfront in the listing. The host handles leveling, hookups, and a full walkthrough so you arrive to a ready-to-camp setup. Filter by 'Delivery' to see who offers it, then message the host with your destination address for an exact quote.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/ray-roberts-lakeHow far can I drive, and what about mileage limits from Collinsville?

For a longer RV road trip from Collinsville, Hot Springs, Arkansas and Big Bend National Park are popular bucket-list runs. Map your route, then filter listings to match your mileage needs.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Collinsville,%20TexasWhere are the best campgrounds near Collinsville for an RV trip?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Collinsville include Ray Roberts Lake State Park Johnson Branch (25 minutes southwest, full-hookup sites with lakefront views), Ray Roberts Isle du Bois Unit (electric and water sites plus a beautiful swim beach), Eisenhower State Park on Lake Texoma (35 minutes north, with hookups and great fishing), Juniper Point Park (an Army Corps campground right on Lake Texoma), and Tejano Ranch RV Park in Valley View (quirky, family-run with alpacas and full hookups). All of these are ideal for RV camping in Collinsville and the wider Grayson and Cooke County area. Pro tip: state park sites release exactly five months in advance at 8 a.m. Central, set a calendar reminder for prime summer weekends.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/ray-roberts-lake/fees-facilities/campsitesWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from Collinsville?
The sweet spot for a Collinsville RV trip is mid-March through mid-May and again from late September through early November, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 65 to 80 degree Fahrenheit range and nights are perfect for a campfire. Summer (June through August) gets hot fast, with highs regularly hitting 95 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit and high humidity, so you'll want a rig with strong AC and shore power. Winters are mild (40s to 60s during the day) and great for snowbird-style RVing with fewer crowds at Ray Roberts Lake. Local insider tip: wildflower season peaks in April, and the bluebonnets along FM 922 between Collinsville and Tioga are stunning, time your trip and bring a camera.
weather.gov/fwd/I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay picking one up in Collinsville?
Yes, first time renting an RV is way easier than people expect, and Collinsville is actually a great place to learn. Your host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, slide-outs, water, propane, and the dump station, and they're available by phone or text throughout your trip. For first-timers, a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer is the friendliest choice. The roads around Collinsville are wide, flat, and lightly trafficked: FM 922, US-377, and the back roads to Ray Roberts Lake are forgiving for new drivers. If you're nervous about driving, just book a host who offers delivery, the RV comes to you. You've got this.
txdot.gov/safety.htmlWhat if something breaks down during my Collinsville RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat on US-82, a dead battery at Johnson Branch, or a tow situation along I-35, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also a direct lifeline, most respond within minutes for quick questions like how to reset the inverter or where the water pump switch is located. For mechanical issues, RVezy support coordinates repairs and keeps your trip moving. Local tip: the nearest 24-hour truck-friendly fuel and service stops are along I-35 in Gainesville (about 15 miles west) and US-75 in Sherman (about 20 miles east), good to know before you roll out.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Collinsville RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Cross-state travel is welcome and easy. Most Collinsville hosts are happy for you to drive your RV anywhere in the continental U.S., Oklahoma is just minutes north across the Red River, and popular routes head to Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Colorado. Confirm with your host before booking if you're planning a multi-state run. One important note: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the insurance and protection plan do not extend across the border. Canada-bound trips may be allowed with host approval. For most renters, an RV road trip from Collinsville through Texas Hill Country, Big Bend, or up to the Ozarks is the dream itinerary, plenty of adventure without crossing south.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas costs should I budget for?
Budgeting is straightforward. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves but will drop your tow vehicle to 10 to 14 miles per gallon (MPG), while Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG and larger Class A rigs run 6 to 10 MPG. Texas gas prices are among the lowest in the country, expect to pay around $2.70 to $3.20 per gallon for regular and slightly more for diesel in the Collinsville area. For a 4-day trip with 300 miles of driving in a Class C, plan on roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: Buc-ee's in Denton (35 minutes south on I-35) has clean restrooms, cheap fuel, and easy RV-friendly pumps, fill up there before heading to the lake.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Collinsville?
Book early and you'll thank yourself. Texas State Parks (including Ray Roberts Lake Johnson Branch and Isle du Bois) open reservations up to 5 months in advance through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, and the most popular lakeside sites for summer weekends, Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day vanish within hours. For Lake Texoma's Army Corps sites like Juniper Point, use Recreation.gov, which opens reservations up to 6 months ahead. Private RV parks like Tejano Ranch typically take bookings 6 to 12 months out. Pro tip: weeknights and Sunday-to-Wednesday stays usually have wide-open availability, even in peak season, so flexing your dates by one day can unlock the lakefront site you wanted.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/ray-roberts-lake/fees-facilities/campsitesWhat are local driving conditions like around Collinsville?
Driving around Collinsville is a dream for RVers. The town sits in rolling North Texas prairie at the intersection of US-377 and FM 922, with wide rural roads, light traffic, and minimal hills, ideal for getting comfortable in a larger rig. Watch for two things: spring thunderstorms can bring hail and quick wind gusts (April through June), so check the National Weather Service Fort Worth forecast before driving, and deer are active at dawn and dusk along county roads near Lake Ray Roberts. If you're heading south toward Dallas, avoid I-35 between 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. weekdays. Local insider tip: take the scenic FM 372 through Tioga (birthplace of Gene Autry) instead of the highway, it's prettier and less stressful.
weather.gov/fwd/What hookups and amenities do local campgrounds offer?
Great news for comfort lovers, most campgrounds near Collinsville offer solid RV infrastructure. Ray Roberts Lake State Park Johnson Branch has 30 and 50 amp electric sites with water hookups, hot showers, flush toilets, and a dump station near the entrance. Isle du Bois offers similar hookups plus a fishing pier. Eisenhower State Park on Lake Texoma has both full-hookup and water/electric sites. Potable water fills are available at park headquarters, and dump stations are free for registered campers. For full sewer hookups every night, private parks like Tejano Ranch in Valley View and The Retreat at Shady Creek deliver. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank before leaving Collinsville since some state park sites have water shared between two pads, your own supply means no waiting.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/ray-roberts-lake/fees-facilitiesWhat's actually inside the RVs available in Collinsville?
You'll be impressed. Most RVs available for rent in Collinsville are well-equipped homes on wheels: queen or king beds, full kitchens with stove, oven, microwave, and fridge/freezer, indoor bathrooms with showers and flushing toilets, dinettes that convert to extra sleeping space, and air conditioning plus furnace heat. Class C motorhomes and travel trailers typically sleep 4 to 8 people with seatbelts for travel in motorized rigs. Many also include TVs, Bluetooth stereos, outdoor speakers, and onboard generators for boondocking. Wi-Fi varies, ask the host whether the rig has a mobile hotspot or if you should bring your own. Pro tip: filter by 'Sleeps 6+' for a family RV trip in Collinsville so everyone gets a real bed instead of a fold-down couch.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons can I get and how does pickup work?
Hosts in Collinsville offer all sorts of helpful add-ons to make your trip easier. Common extras include kitchen kits ($30 to $75), bedding packages ($25 to $50 per bed), portable generators ($25 to $50/night), bike racks, outdoor grills, camp chairs, and propane fire pits. Many offer add-on packages like 'family bundle' or 'festival ready.' Standard pickup is at the host's property in or near Collinsville with a 30 to 60 minute orientation walkthrough, returns are usually before 11 a.m. with the tanks dumped and fuel refilled. Need a different arrangement? Many hosts allow delivery or flexible pickup times, just message them. Pro tip: add the kitchen kit if you're traveling without gear, it's the single best money you'll spend.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/hours-service/summary-hours-service-regulationsHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure, you pay through RVezy directly with a credit or debit card during booking, never in cash to the host. A security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape with a clean interior and empty tanks. No surprise charges, and no awkward handing over of money in a Collinsville driveway. To avoid any deposit hiccups: do the pre-trip walkthrough with the host, take date-stamped photos of the interior and exterior, and follow the host's return checklist. Easy in, easy out, exactly how it should be.
