Camping near Como, Texas
Como is a small East Texas town in Hopkins County, positioned between Sulphur Springs and the northern shoreline of Lake Fork Reservoir. RV travelers use it as a low-traffic base for trophy bass fishing, since Lake Fork sits roughly a half-hour south and has produced more than 65 percent of the Texas Top 50 largemouth bass, including the state record of 18.18 pounds.
Campground density is highest along Lake Fork and near the town of Yantis, where Shady Lake RV Park and The Oaks of Yantis serve anglers heading to the reservoir's northern coves. Patriot RV Park offers lakeside sites in the same area, and Oak Ridge Resort provides a more amenity-focused option. To the east near Winnsboro, Winnsboro City Park adds a municipal option with a small lake and shaded loop.
Most parks in this area are private, family-run operations rather than state or federal campgrounds, so amenities, hookup levels, and reservation policies vary widely from one property to the next.
Things to do around Como
Lake Fork Reservoir is the dominant draw. The lake covers 27,264 acres with 315 miles of shoreline and extensive submerged timber, and it holds the Texas state record largemouth bass at 18.18 pounds. Crappie fishing under bridges and around standing timber is also strong, and channel catfish, white bass, and bluegill round out the fishery.
Beyond fishing, RVers can drive into Sulphur Springs for the Hopkins County Museum and Heritage Park, or south to Mineola Nature Preserve for trails through wetlands and pine woods. Winnsboro's city park has walking paths and picnic areas that work well for a low-key family afternoon between lake days.
Guided bass trips out of Alba and Yantis are widely available for visitors without a boat.

Spring is the busiest window. Peak bass fishing on Lake Fork runs mid-February through April, when spawning fish concentrate along the shoreline, and lakeside RV parks book up well in advance for tournament weekends. Weather in this window is generally mild but volatile, with severe thunderstorms possible and rapid temperature swings behind cold fronts.
Summer is hot and humid, with highs routinely in the low to mid nineties. Anglers shift to night fishing and deeper structure, while families lean on shaded sites and pool amenities. Late summer and early fall bring a second strong fishing period as schooling activity picks up.
Fall offers the most comfortable RV weather, with warm days, cool nights, and lower humidity through October and November. Winter is mild by northern standards but wet and windy, with occasional freezes. Most private parks stay open year-round, though shoulder-season hours and store schedules may be reduced.

How to book a site near Como
Nearly all campgrounds in the Como and Lake Fork area are privately owned. Reservations are typically taken directly by phone or through each park's own website rather than through Recreation.gov or the Texas State Parks reservation system. Shady Lake RV Park, The Oaks of Yantis, Patriot RV Park, and Oak Ridge Resort all follow this direct-booking model.
Winnsboro City Park, as a municipal facility, is handled by the City of Winnsboro's parks office. Rules on length of stay, deposits, and pet policy differ by property.
For spring bass season and major tournament weekends, book waterfront sites eight to twelve weeks ahead. Weekday and off-season stays are usually available on shorter notice, but calling first is recommended since some parks limit online inventory.
What to expect on arrival
Expect rural East Texas: two-lane county roads, pine and hardwood cover, and limited big-box shopping outside Sulphur Springs and Mineola. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the highways but can drop in lakeside coves and wooded loops.
Most RV parks in the area offer 30 and 50 amp service with water and sewer at the site, gravel or concrete pads, a laundry room, and basic restrooms and showers. Waterfront properties often include a boat ramp and fish-cleaning station. Grocery runs are easiest in Sulphur Springs to the north or Winnsboro and Mineola to the south and east.
Summer brings mosquitoes and biting flies near the water, so pack repellent, and watch for submerged timber if launching a boat on Lake Fork.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Como, TX?
RV rental in Como, TX is one of the more affordable ways to explore northeast Texas, with most travel trailers starting around $95 to $175 per night and Class C motorhomes typically running $200 to $325 per night. Because Como sits in rural Hopkins County rather than a tourist hotspot, nightly rates are often lower than in Dallas or Austin. Pro tip: bundling longer stays (5+ nights) often unlocks weekly discounts from hosts.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Como%2C%20TexasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Texas?
Good news: a regular Class C driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Como, TX. Texas does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) for personal-use RVs under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every motorhome and travel trailer on the RVezy platform. You will need to be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and RVezy verifies your ID right through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country along with your original license. Most first-time renters are surprised by how straightforward it is.

Every RV rental in Como, TX booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout (not the host). It is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides strong financial backing if something unexpected happens. Pro tip: pick your protection tier based on your route, if you are heading out to Cooper Lake State Park or beyond, a higher tier is worth the small bump in cost.

tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/petsCan the RV be delivered to my campground near Como?
Yes, RV delivery in Como is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather skip towing or driving a big rig. Delivery fees typically scale with distance from the host. Pro tip: filter listings by Delivery on RVezy, then ask the host about a full setup-and-pickup package so your only job is to enjoy the lake.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/cooper-lakeHow far can I drive on a Como RV trip, and do rentals come with unlimited mileage?
Como sits in the sweet spot for a Texas RV trip, with Dallas about 90 miles southwest, Tyler around 55 miles south, and Texarkana around 90 miles east, all easy day or weekend hops. Both options are clearly shown on each listing before you book. Pro tip: map your route first, then filter for unlimited mileage if you are planning a bigger loop through East Texas.

You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Como, TX includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the RVezy protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. If something feels off, your first call is RVezy support, they coordinate help and keep your host in the loop. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup, save your host's number, and keep the RVezy app handy, that combo makes any hiccup a quick fix instead of a trip-ender.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Como RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Yes, an RV road trip from Como opens up the whole region. Interstate travel within the US is allowed on RVezy rentals, so Oklahoma (about 90 miles north), Arkansas (just over 100 miles east), and Louisiana (around 150 miles southeast) are all fair game. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed with host approval and proper paperwork, message the host directly before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across that border. Pro tip: a classic loop is Como to Hot Springs, Arkansas, only about 3 hours of easy interstate driving.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how much will gas cost?
Realistic expectations make budgeting easy. Class C motorhomes around Como typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), travel trailers behind a truck land around 10 to 14 MPG combined, and Class B campervans can stretch to 16 to 20 MPG. Texas gas prices tend to run below the national average, often around $2.80 to $3.20 per gallon in Hopkins County, which keeps fuel costs friendly. For a 300-mile round trip to Dallas and back in a Class C, budget roughly $80 to $115 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Sulphur Springs before heading to Cooper Lake, prices there are usually a few cents cheaper than at the lake.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Como?
For the best sites, book early. Texas State Parks (including Cooper Lake and Lake Bob Sandlin) open reservations five months in advance through the Texas State Parks reservation system, and lakeside sites for spring and fall weekends often disappear within days of opening. Private parks like Big Cypress RV Park in Pittsburg are usually easier to grab 2 to 4 weeks out. Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends are the toughest, plan 3+ months ahead. Pro tip: if your dream site is booked, check back often, cancellations happen frequently within the week before arrival.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are the local roads like for driving an RV around Como?

Hopkins County terrain is gentle rolling hills (elevation around 520 feet), so there are no mountain passes or steep grades to worry about. Watch for occasional spring thunderstorms between April and June. Pro tip: avoid the small farm-to-market roads after heavy rain, stick to US-67 and FM-71, which drain well and stay clear.

Payment on RVezy is straightforward and secure: you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card when you book, which covers your rental, protection plan, and any add-ons. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV) and released after the trip if there is no damage and the RV is returned clean with the right fuel level.
