Campgrounds near De Kalb, Texas
De Kalb sits in Bowie County in the northeast corner of Texas, roughly 30 miles west of Texarkana along U.S. 82. The town works well as a quiet base for RV travelers exploring the Piney Woods, Wright Patman Lake, and the Red River valley. Small-town services, fuel, and grocery stops are close at hand, and most campgrounds within reach offer full hookups suited to larger rigs.
Private options closest to town include Lucky Buck's Lodge & RV Park, Shady Pines RV Park, Camp Langston RV Resort, and Tall Pines RV Park. These parks tend to draw a mix of long-term guests, work travelers, and weekend RVers passing through on I-30 or U.S. 82.
For a public-land experience, White Oak Ridge at Atlanta State Park is the standout choice within about an hour's drive. The park sits on the south shore of Wright Patman Lake and puts hiking, swimming, boat ramps, and fishing within walking distance of the sites.
Things to do near De Kalb
Wright Patman Lake is the main outdoor draw. Atlanta State Park offers two boat ramps, a designated swim area, and shoreline trails through pine and hardwood forest. Anglers target largemouth bass, crappie, and channel and blue catfish; the lake is known for producing large catfish.
On land, the park has roughly 4.8 miles of hiking trails, including a short nature loop suitable for kids and the Volksmarch and Arrowhead trails that reach lake overlooks. Rangers run programs on birding, geocaching, and Caddo history during the warmer months.
Off-park attractions include historic Jefferson to the south, with antebellum homes, museums, and a narrow-gauge tourist railway. Linden hosts spring music and wildflower events, and Texarkana adds shopping, dining, and the novelty of standing in two states at once.

Spring is a busy booking window. Wildflowers and dogwoods bloom through March and April, temperatures are comfortable, and the lake warms enough for shoulder-season paddling. Spring is also the wettest stretch, with April and May typically the peak rain months, so expect thunderstorms and muddy trails.
Summer is peak camping season at Atlanta State Park, especially for swimming, tubing, and boating. Weekends and holidays fill fast, and heat and humidity are significant, with afternoon highs regularly in the 90s. Shaded, full-hookup sites are the first to book.
Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and hardwood color into November. It is a strong season for RV travel in the region. Winter stays open at Atlanta State Park, but campers should watch for occasional annual park hunts that close the park briefly in December and January. Bird-watching is a winter highlight along the lake.

How to book campgrounds near De Kalb
For Atlanta State Park, including the White Oak Ridge area, reservations go through Texas Parks and Wildlife. Campsite reservations open up to five months in advance, day-use entry passes open up to one month ahead, and the picnic pavilion can be booked up to 12 months out. Booking three months ahead is recommended for summer and holiday weekends.
No-shows are cancelled if the camper has not checked in by noon the day after the scheduled arrival. There is no staffed entry gate around the clock; after-hours arrivals should call the park in advance and follow posted self-registration instructions.
Private parks such as Lucky Buck's Lodge & RV Park, Shady Pines RV Park, Camp Langston RV Resort, and Tall Pines RV Park are typically booked directly by phone or through their own websites. Confirm rig-length limits and hookup type at the time of booking.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain is gently rolling pine and hardwood forest with red-clay soils that can get slick after rain. Most private parks around De Kalb are level, gravel or grass, and geared to full-hookup RV use. Cell coverage is generally reliable near town and along U.S. 82, but can drop inside wooded state park loops.
At Atlanta State Park, sites offer water and electric, and a subset of sites in the Knights Bluff area include sewer hookups. Restrooms with hot showers are available, and a dump station serves the campgrounds. Up to two tents are allowed per site, and extra vehicles must use overflow parking.
Bowie and Cass counties are under an emerald ash borer quarantine, so firewood movement is restricted. Buy firewood locally where you plan to burn it. Ticks, chiggers, and mosquitoes are active from spring through fall, so pack repellent.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=De%20Kalb,%20TexasWhat license do I need to rent an RV in De Kalb, TX?
A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in De Kalb, TX. Texas does not require a special RV license or commercial driver's license (CDL) for any motorhome or travel trailer you'll find on RVezy, whether it's a Class B campervan or a 35-foot Class A. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally required to be 25 or older, and your ID is verified securely through the platform during checkout, so there's no paperwork to print or notarize. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental in De Kalb protected if something goes wrong?
Peace of mind is built into every booking. Every RV rental in De Kalb, TX on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered for most damages to the vehicle and never stranded if a tire blows on US-82 or the fridge acts up at the campground. During checkout you choose between multiple protection plan tiers based on how much coverage you want, and the protection level is your call, not the host's. The plan provides meaningful financial protection so you can focus on s'mores around the campfire instead of worst-case scenarios.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change after I book my De Kalb RV trip?
You can book with confidence: RVezy sets a clear, standardized cancellation policy on every reservation, so the policy is not defined by the host. Every booking includes a money-back grace period right after you book, which is helpful if you spot a better rig or need to adjust dates. Beyond the grace window, refund amounts depend on how close you are to your trip start and on extenuating circumstances like severe Texas storms or natural disasters. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds the guest or provides travel credits. The RVezy support team is reachable before, during, and after your De Kalb RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in De Kalb?
Yes, your pup is welcome on plenty of adventures. To find a pet-friendly RV rental in De Kalb, TX, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see listings from hosts who happily welcome dogs and cats (some even leave a treat). Once you're on the road, Wright Patman Lake just south of town has dog-friendly shoreline trails, and Atlanta State Park about 25 minutes east allows leashed pets on all trails and at campsites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee (usually $25 to $75 per trip) and to ask about nearby vets, then pack a collapsible water bowl for those 90-plus degree Texas summer afternoons.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/atlantaCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in De Kalb?
Yes, and it's one of the easiest ways to start your trip. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in De Kalb, TX and the surrounding Bowie County area, meaning your motorhome or travel trailer arrives right at your campsite, lake house, or driveway, already leveled with the awning out and systems ready to go. Filter by Delivery on the search page to see hosts who offer it, then check their delivery radius and per-mile fee on the listing. Popular drop-off spots include Wright Patman Lake, Atlanta State Park, and Daingerfield State Park. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer for a first-time renter, since the host does the hookups and walks you through everything before leaving.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/daingerfield-branchHow many miles can I drive on my De Kalb RV rental?
Plenty, especially if you plan ahead. Most RVezy hosts in De Kalb include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day), and some list RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for longer loops through Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Overage fees usually run $0.30 to $0.45 per mile, so if you're planning a big trip, ask the host up front about a mileage package. From De Kalb you're roughly 30 miles to Texarkana, 90 miles to Hot Springs, AR, 120 miles to Broken Bow, OK, and about 180 miles to Dallas. Pro tip: build a loop instead of out-and-back to maximize free miles.
txdot.gov/Where are the best campgrounds near De Kalb, TX?
You're surrounded by some of East Texas's best RV camping. The best campgrounds near De Kalb, TX include Atlanta State Park (about 25 miles east on Wright Patman Lake, with full-hookup sites and swimming beaches), Rocky Point Park (a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground on Wright Patman with lakefront pads), Daingerfield State Park (50 miles south with a quiet 80-acre lake and shaded loops), and Spring Lake Park in Texarkana (city-run with full hookups, walking distance to a stocked fishing lake). For a quick overnight, Shady Pines RV Park just off US-82 has pull-throughs and 50-amp service. Pro tip: state park sites book up fast for spring weekends, so reserve as soon as your dates are set.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/atlanta/fees-facilitiesWhen is the best time to visit De Kalb in an RV?
Spring and fall are pure magic in Northeast Texas. The sweet spot for RV camping De Kalb travelers love runs mid-March through May, when daytime temps cruise from the upper 60s into the low 80s and the dogwoods bloom, and again from late September through early November when fall foliage lights up Daingerfield State Park. Summers (June through August) regularly hit the mid-90s with high humidity and a heat index that can climb past 110, so you'll want a rig with strong air conditioning. Winters are mild but wet, with January lows around 37°F and only a dusting of snow. Pro tip: book a March weekend at Atlanta State Park for bluebonnets without the summer crowds.
weather.gov/shv/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in De Kalb?
You're going to do great, and De Kalb is actually one of the friendlier places to learn. First time renting an RV here means wide-open two-lane highways like US-82 and FM roads with light traffic, no mountain passes, and easy pull-through stops. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, slide-outs, tanks, and driving tips, so you won't drive off guessing. If city driving makes you nervous, choose delivery and skip the pickup drive entirely. Pro tip: ask for a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer (under 25 feet) for your first De Kalb RV trip; they handle like a big pickup and fit any campsite at Atlanta State Park without drama.
txdps.state.tx.us/section/driver-licenseWhat happens if I have a breakdown during my De Kalb RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in De Kalb, TX on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on US-259, a dead battery at Wright Patman, or a stubborn slide-out is just a phone call away. Roadside assistance covers towing, tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, and fuel delivery. Your host is also a text away for quick questions like which switch runs the water pump, and RVezy's support team backs you up if anything bigger comes up. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you pull out of the driveway, and snap a photo of the rig's VIN and license plate for faster service.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from De Kalb, TX?
You're sitting at a crossroads of four states, so the options are incredible. Top picks for an RV road trip from De Kalb include Hot Springs National Park, AR (about 90 miles northeast, with mountain bathhouses and Gulpha Gorge Campground), Broken Bow Lake, OK (120 miles north, famous for crystal-clear water and Beavers Bend State Park), Caddo Lake State Park (about 75 miles south for cypress-and-Spanish-moss paddling), and Dallas/Fort Worth (180 miles west for big-city eats then back to nature). Cross-border travel into Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana is welcome on RVezy bookings; Mexico trips are not allowed. Pro tip: a 7-night loop hitting Broken Bow, Hot Springs, and Caddo Lake is the ultimate Ark-La-Tex itinerary.
nps.gov/hosp/index.htmHow much should I budget for fuel on my De Kalb RV trip?
Fuel is very manageable in this part of Texas. Gas prices in Bowie County typically run 10 to 30 cents below the national average, and most RVs you'll rent in De Kalb get between 8 and 14 miles per gallon, with Class B campervans hitting 18-plus. For a 4-night trip covering roughly 400 miles, plan on $140 to $220 in fuel for a mid-size Class C, less for a travel trailer pulled by your own truck. Fill up at the Love's Travel Stop in New Boston (10 miles west) or in Texarkana, where RV-friendly diesel lanes are easy to navigate. Pro tip: drive 60 to 62 mph instead of 70 and you'll add nearly 2 mpg over the trip.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near De Kalb?
Booking ahead pays off. Texas state park sites at Atlanta State Park and Daingerfield State Park can be reserved up to 5 months in advance through Texas Parks and Wildlife, and spring weekends fill quickly. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds at Wright Patman Lake book through Recreation.gov, typically 6 months out. For weekday or last-minute stays, private parks like Shady Pines RV Park and Spring Lake Park in Texarkana usually have openings within a week. Pro tip: if a weekend at Atlanta State Park is sold out, check back daily, as cancellations pop up regularly, especially within the 48 hours before arrival.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around De Kalb?
Driving here is refreshingly mellow. US-82 is the main east-west artery through De Kalb, a wide two-lane highway with generous shoulders, and US-259 north toward Oklahoma is similarly easy. Traffic is light outside of brief school-zone moments, and there are no mountain grades, narrow tunnels, or low clearances to sweat. Watch for spring thunderstorms (March to May) that can bring sudden heavy rain and occasional hail, plus deer at dawn and dusk on rural FM roads. Summer afternoons get hot enough to soften asphalt, so check tire pressure before long drives. Pro tip: avoid the 4 to 6 p.m. window on US-82 through Texarkana on Fridays, when refinery and shift traffic slows things down.
drivetexas.org/What hookups and amenities do campgrounds near De Kalb offer?
You'll find genuinely well-equipped parks all around. Atlanta State Park offers 30/50-amp electric and water at most sites with a central dump station, while Spring Lake Park in Texarkana and Shady Pines RV Park offer full hookups (water, sewer, and 50-amp electric) at each pad. Wright Patman Corps of Engineers parks have electric and water, plus dump stations near the entrance. Potable water fill-ups are available at every state park and at Love's in New Boston. Pro tip: even at full-hookup sites, top off your fresh tank before leaving the host because De Kalb's well water is good but some lakeside parks have heavily chlorinated taps. A 25-foot fresh water hose and a 30-to-50 amp adapter handle 95 percent of situations.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/atlanta/fees-facilities/facilitiesWhat's inside the RVs I can rent in De Kalb?
More comfort than you'd expect. RVs on RVezy in De Kalb typically come fully equipped: a queen bed (often a king in larger rigs), bunks or convertible dinettes for kids, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, an enclosed bathroom with toilet and shower, roof-mounted air conditioning (essential for Texas summers), propane furnace for cool winter nights, and seatbelts for everyone riding in motorhomes. Many hosts also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and an onboard generator for boondocking. Wi-Fi varies, so if you need to work from the road, filter for it or bring a hotspot. Pro tip: ask your host for a kitchen kit add-on; many include pots, plates, and coffee makers so you can pack lighter.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/393.93What add-ons and pickup options should I know about for a De Kalb motorhome rental?
Plenty of small upgrades make a motorhome rental De Kalb trip smoother. Common RVezy add-ons in the area include linens and towels, kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, portable grills, generators for off-grid stays, and bike or kayak racks for Wright Patman Lake adventures. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near De Kalb, with delivery available within a set radius for a per-mile fee. Most hosts offer afternoon pickup and morning drop-off windows, and flexible times can be requested in the messaging tab. Pro tip: bundle linens plus a kitchen kit when you book to save versus adding them later, and confirm propane and generator hours up front.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=De%20Kalb,%20TexasHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
It's straightforward and secure. When you book an RV rental in De Kalb, TX through RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit card, never send money outside the site. A refundable security deposit (amount set on the listing) is held separately from the booking payment and is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, not charged, then released after drop-off once the host confirms the RV came back clean, undamaged, and with tanks handled per the listing. The trip total covers the nightly rate, your chosen protection plan, taxes, and any add-ons. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a quick walk-around video at pickup and drop-off to make any deposit conversation easy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take my De Kalb RV rental across state lines into Arkansas, Oklahoma, or Louisiana?
Yes, and it's one of the best parts of renting here. De Kalb sits about 30 miles from the Arkansas state line, roughly 40 miles from Oklahoma, and about 90 miles from Louisiana, so cross-border trips are some of the most popular RVezy itineraries in the area. Travel within the United States is covered under your renter protection plan, so a swing through Hot Springs, Broken Bow, or Shreveport is straightforward; just confirm your route with your host so they know your plan. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection do not extend across that border. Pro tip: a long-weekend loop from De Kalb to Broken Bow to Hot Springs and back covers about 350 miles across three states.
