Camping near Gladewater, Texas
Gladewater sits in the piney woods of East Texas, roughly midway between Longview and Tyler, at the transition from north Texas lakes to the eastern pine forest. The town is known as the Antique Capital of East Texas and serves as a practical base for RV travelers exploring Gregg, Upshur, and Smith counties. Interstate 20 runs just south of town, making access from Dallas, Shreveport, and Houston straightforward.
RV options within a short drive include Antique Capital RV Park, Twisted Pines RV Park, Watts RV Park Rental Cabins, Stillwater RV Resort, and Logan's Way Tiny Home & RV Park. Parks in the area lean toward full-hookup sites with concrete or gravel pads, and many cater to both overnight travelers and long-term guests working in the region's oil and gas industry.
Lake Gladewater, Lake O' the Pines, Martin Creek Lake State Park, and Tyler State Park are all reachable for day trips, giving RV travelers a mix of small-town amenities and outdoor activities within a compact radius.
Things to do around Gladewater
Downtown Gladewater is packed with antique shops and hosts the Gladewater Round-Up Rodeo and the Gladewater Arts and Crafts Festival each year. The East Texas Oil Museum in nearby Kilgore and the Longview Arboretum are common day trips, and Lone Star Speedway draws race fans on weekends.
For outdoor time, Lake Gladewater offers fishing, small-boat launching, and shoreline picnicking, while Tyler State Park and Martin Creek Lake State Park add hiking trails, swimming, and paddling within about an hour's drive. Families with kids often add the splash pad at White Oak City Park and the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler.
RV travelers looking for a full weekend loop can combine downtown antiquing, a state park hike, and a stop at one of the region's lakes without moving campgrounds.

Spring, from March through May, is one of the wettest stretches of the year in the Gladewater area, with frequent thunderstorms and the region's heaviest monthly rainfall in April. Wildflowers, mild temperatures, and green pine forest make it a popular window for RV travel, but low-lying sites can hold water after heavy storms, so paved or concrete pads are worth prioritizing.
Summer runs hot and humid, with daytime highs typically in the low to mid-90s Fahrenheit and dew points that stay uncomfortable through August. Shaded sites and 50-amp service for air conditioning matter more than at other times of year. Lake activities peak in this window, and reservations at Texas state parks fill quickly around holiday weekends.
Fall is generally the most comfortable season, with lower humidity, cooler nights, and reduced rainfall through October. Winter is short and mild but can bring cold snaps, freezing rain, and occasional hard freezes that briefly close campground water spigots.

How to book a campground near Gladewater
Private RV parks in the Gladewater area, including Antique Capital RV Park, Twisted Pines RV Park, Watts RV Park Rental Cabins, Stillwater RV Resort, and Logan's Way Tiny Home & RV Park, generally take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Many also list availability on third-party booking platforms. Same-day bookings are often possible outside of major events.
Nearby Texas state parks such as Tyler State Park and Martin Creek Lake State Park are booked through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reservation system, which allows most overnight camping and lodging sites to be reserved up to five months in advance, with the window opening at 8 a.m. Central Time. Summer weekends, spring break, and holidays tend to sell out first, so booking early is recommended for state park sites.
What to expect at Gladewater RV parks
Most RV parks around Gladewater offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, water, and sewer, and many have concrete or gravel pads suitable for larger rigs. Antique Capital RV Park, for example, advertises big-rig-friendly pull-through sites, a pool, laundry, and pet areas, which is fairly typical of the mid- to upper-tier private parks in the region.
Expect a mix of overnight travelers and long-term residents, since East Texas oilfield work drives steady monthly demand. Cell coverage is generally strong on the major carriers, and Wi-Fi is common but variable in speed.
Grocery stores, fuel, propane, and RV service are available in Gladewater, Longview, and Kilgore, so restocking between stops is straightforward.

Gladewater itself is a great pup destination: Lake Gladewater has leashed-dog-friendly shorelines, and nearby Tyler State Park (about 35 miles southwest) allows leashed pets on all 13 miles of trails. Most local RV parks, including Shallow Creek RV Resort and Antique Capital RV Park, have on-site dog runs or pet areas. Pro tip: bring a portable water bowl, the East Texas humidity sneaks up on dogs faster than you'd expect, even in the shade of the Piney Woods.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/tylerCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Gladewater?
Yes, RV delivery in Gladewater is widely available and it is a great option for first-time renters. Just filter for Delivery on the RVezy search page and check each listing for delivery radius and fees, which typically run a flat rate plus per-mile costs. This means you skip the nerves of towing or maneuvering a big rig down US-271 or Loop 485. Show up, get the orientation, and start your Gladewater RV trip already parked at the campfire.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gladewater%2C%20TexasHow does the mileage policy work and how far can I drive?

Some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for longer East Texas loops. Typical allowances run 100 to 150 miles per day, which is plenty for local trips: Tyler State Park is about 35 miles southwest, Caddo Lake State Park sits 60 miles east, Dallas is 125 miles west on I-20, and Hot Springs, AR is around 230 miles north. Tyler State Park (about 35 miles southwest) is the local favorite for nature lovers, with a 64-acre spring-fed lake and full-hookup loops tucked under 100-foot pines. Texas Rose RV Park near Tyler is another quiet option. Pro tip: book Tyler State Park up to five months ahead through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, weekends fill quickly from March through October.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/tylerWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Gladewater?
Spring (mid-March through May) and fall (late September through early November) are hands-down the sweet spots for a Gladewater RV trip. Daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to mid-80s, humidity is manageable, and the Piney Woods are either blooming with dogwoods or glowing with autumn color. Summer (June through August) is hot and humid, with highs in the low to mid-90s, so look for RVs with strong air conditioning and 50-amp service for steady cooling. Winters are mild, with January highs near 56°F and lows around 34°F, so off-season RV rental in Texas is genuinely doable here. Pro tip: target the second weekend of May for the famous Gladewater Round-Up Rodeo, one of the biggest small-town rodeos in Texas.
weather.gov/shv/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be able to figure it out?
Totally, even first-time renters have a great experience with RVezy in Gladewater. Every host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, leveling, and dump procedures. You can also message your host any time before or during your trip with questions, and RVezy support is available 24/7 as a backup. If the idea of driving a 30-foot Class C through downtown Gladewater feels intimidating, book a host who delivers and sets up at your campsite, so all you have to do is enjoy it. Pro tip: choose a travel trailer or Class C for your first time renting an RV, they're far easier to handle than a 40-foot Class A.
txdot.gov/What happens if I have a breakdown or issue on the road?
You are covered: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are on I-20 outside Gladewater or out on FM-2685 near Lake Gladewater. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip if anything comes up. Pro tip: snap photos of every system during your walkthrough (water heater switch, propane valve, breaker panel) so you have a quick visual reference if something acts up after dark.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips I can take from Gladewater?
Gladewater is a fantastic launch pad for an East Texas RV road trip. Caddo Lake State Park, with its surreal cypress swamps and Spanish moss, is only about 60 miles east. Tyler State Park sits 35 miles southwest for a quick nature reset. Head 90 miles east into Louisiana for Shreveport-Bossier's casinos and food scene, or roll 125 miles west on I-20 to Dallas and Fort Worth. Want to go bigger? Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas is about 230 miles north, and Broken Bow Lake, OK is roughly 130 miles northeast. Cross-border into Mexico isn't permitted on RVezy rentals, but US road trips are wide open. Pro tip: pair Caddo Lake with a stop at Jefferson, TX for the best small-town antiquing in the South.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/caddo-lakeHow much should I budget for fuel on a Gladewater RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's predictable. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A motorhomes get 6 to 8 MPG, campervans hit 15 to 20 MPG, and trucks towing travel trailers typically pull 10 to 12 MPG. Gas in the Gladewater area tends to run a bit cheaper than the national average thanks to Texas's lower fuel taxes. For a 3-night trip with about 300 miles of driving in a Class C, budget roughly $120 to $160 for gas. Pro tip: fill up at the Buc-ee's in Terrell or the truck stops along I-20 East at exit 583 before heading deeper into the Piney Woods, prices in smaller towns sometimes jump 20 to 30 cents per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Gladewater?
For the popular spots, plan ahead: Tyler State Park accepts reservations up to five months out through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's ReserveAmerica system, and weekends from March through October regularly sell out 8 to 12 weeks in advance. Private parks like Antique Capital RV Park and Shallow Creek RV Resort book up faster around the East Texas Gusher Days festival and First Monday Trade Days in nearby Canton. For a spontaneous Gladewater RV trip, weekday arrivals usually have availability with just a few days' notice. Pro tip: call the park directly if the online system shows full, occasionally cancellations open up that haven't refreshed on the booking site yet.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/reservations/What are driving conditions like in and around Gladewater?
Good news for nervous drivers: Gladewater has light traffic, wide rural roads, and easy access to I-20, making it one of the more relaxed places in Texas to drive an RV. US-271 and US-80 run right through town with standard lane widths and few low overpasses to worry about. Watch for occasional logging trucks on FM roads through the Piney Woods, and slow down on tight curves around Lake Gladewater. Summer afternoons can bring sudden thunderstorms with strong crosswinds, so check the National Weather Service Shreveport forecast before driving. Winter ice is rare but possible in January. Pro tip: avoid downtown Gladewater's antique district on weekend mornings, the narrow streets fill with shoppers and parallel parking a 30-foot rig is no fun.
txdot.gov/What hookups and amenities should I expect at Gladewater campgrounds?
Most RV parks around Gladewater offer full hookups, meaning 30/50-amp electric, fresh water, and sewer right at your site, which makes things easy whether you're in a campervan or a 40-foot fifth wheel. Antique Capital RV Park and Shallow Creek RV Resort both have concrete pads, on-site laundry, Wi-Fi, and dump stations. Tyler State Park offers a mix of full-hookup, water-and-electric, and water-only sites, plus a centralized dump station and potable water fill near the entrance. Most parks also have bathhouses with showers if you'd rather skip the RV's small shower. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 90-degree elbow, hookup locations vary site to site and the extra length saves headaches.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/tyler/fees-facilities/campsitesWhat's inside a typical Gladewater RV rental?
You'll be surprised how well-equipped modern RVs are. A typical motorhome rental in Gladewater comes with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa for extra sleepers (most rigs sleep 4 to 8), a full kitchen with fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, and sink, plus a bathroom with toilet, sink, and shower. Air conditioning, furnace, and a TV are standard, and many hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, and onboard generators for boondocking. All seated passengers get seatbelts, which Texas law requires for everyone in the vehicle. Pro tip: check the listing's amenity list carefully for things like leveling jacks, backup cameras, and outdoor kitchens, those small features make a huge difference at a shaded site in Tyler State Park.
txdot.gov/safety/seat-belts.htmlWhat add-ons can I get with my Gladewater RV rental?
Hosts offer a great menu of add-ons to make your trip turnkey. Common options include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, camping chairs and tables, generators, bike racks, Wi-Fi hotspots, and pet packages. Many Gladewater hosts also offer convenience services like propane top-offs, dump-station service after your trip, and delivery and setup at your campsite. Pickup and drop-off usually happen at the host's home in or near Gladewater, with windows that vary by host, so confirm timing during booking. Pro tip: bundle linens plus delivery on your first booking, the small fee saves you a packing list and a tow.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gladewater%2C%20TexasHow do payment and security deposits work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: RVezy processes everything through the platform with a credit or debit card at the time of booking, so you never hand cash or a check to your host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and released after your trip ends, assuming no damage or extra cleaning is needed. Mileage and generator overage fees, if any, are settled through the platform after the trip too. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkthrough video at pickup and drop-off and keep the rig clean inside. Pro tip: ask your Gladewater host about their dump-station policy, returning with full holding tanks often triggers an additional fee that is easy to avoid by stopping at the campground's dump on your way out.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park or stay overnight in Gladewater outside of a campground?
You've got a few solid options if you're rolling in late or just need a quick overnight in Gladewater. The Walmart Supercenter in nearby Longview (about 15 miles east) traditionally allows free overnight RV parking with manager approval, a common backup plan for travelers along I-20. Cracker Barrel locations in Tyler and Longview also often welcome RVers for a single night. Boondocking on city streets isn't permitted in residential Gladewater, so plan a real campsite for anything beyond one night. For dispersed camping with a more rustic feel, the Sabine National Forest is about 90 miles southeast. Pro tip: always call ahead to confirm overnight parking policies, they vary by store manager and city ordinance.
