Campgrounds and RV parks near Graford, TX

Possum Kingdom Lake is the main draw. Boating, jet skiing, wakeboarding, swimming, and scuba diving are all popular thanks to unusually clear water for a Texas reservoir. Anglers target largemouth, striped, and white bass, channel and blue catfish, and white crappie, with the pier near the state park store a reliable shore-fishing spot. Hell's Gate, a channel framed by tall limestone cliffs, is the lake's signature landmark and is best seen by boat. On land, the state park has a short network of hiking and biking trails, including the Lakeview and Chaparral Ridge loops, and a longer hike-and-bike trail system maintained by the Brazos River Authority runs on the east side of the lake. Nearby Mineral Wells Fossil Park and Clark Gardens give families an easy half-day off the water.

Summer is the busy season. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, waterfront sites at the private resorts and state park fill quickly, and weekends near the Fourth of July are typically booked weeks ahead. Daytime highs commonly run in the mid-90s, so shaded or full-hookup sites with reliable power for air conditioning are worth prioritizing. The state park notes its busiest stretch as March through October on weekends and all week from June through August. Spring brings the wettest stretch of the year, with May the peak rainfall month and a higher chance of thunderstorms and flash flooding in the Brazos drainage. Temperatures are pleasant and the lake is rising, which is good for boat ramp access. Fall is the most underrated season: warm days, cooler nights, lower humidity, and a secondary rainfall peak in October. Winter is mild but variable, with occasional freezes and the odd ice or snow event. Possum Kingdom State Park stays open year-round, but its park store runs reduced winter hours (Friday through Sunday from December through February), and some private resort amenities scale back in the same window.

Most private RV resorts around Possum Kingdom Lake offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, concrete or gravel pads, picnic tables, and Wi-Fi, and many are big-rig friendly with pull-through sites. Waterfront properties typically pair RV sites with a marina, boat slips, swimming areas, and dog parks; boats are generally kept at the marina rather than at the site. Possum Kingdom State Park has electric and water sites, primitive walk-in areas, cabins, potable water, and restrooms with showers. Prescribed burns are planned in the October-through-April window and may temporarily close trails or camping areas, so check current park alerts before arrival. Cell coverage around the lake is generally good but can drop in the deeper coves and canyons.
