Campgrounds and RV parks near Grangerland, TX

Lake Conroe is the main draw. The 22,000-acre reservoir supports largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, and crappie fishing, plus boating, kayaking, and jet skiing from public ramps around the shoreline. Hikers and cyclists head into Sam Houston National Forest. The Lone Star Hiking Trail runs roughly 128 miles through the forest counting its loop and crossover trails, with the Big Creek Scenic Area preserving 1,420 acres of mixed pine and hardwood. Multi-use trails open to off-road vehicles, equestrians, and mountain bikers cover about 85 miles. Families can add day trips to downtown Conroe for breweries, live music, and shopping, or drive north to Huntsville State Park on Lake Raven for swimming, paddling, and wildlife viewing that includes wading birds and alligators.

Grangerland has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and short, mild winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping. Redbud blooms appear in mid-February, followed by dogwoods in early March, and fall brings cooler nights and lower humidity through October and November. Summer highs regularly exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity, so shaded sites, full hookups, and functional air conditioning matter. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November with peak activity in August and September, which can bring heavy rain and localized flooding to the Lake Conroe basin. Most established campgrounds around Lake Conroe and in Sam Houston National Forest stay open year-round, but primitive forest roads can become difficult after heavy rain. Deer hunting season, which typically runs from early fall into January, restricts dispersed camping in the national forest to designated hunter camps. Winter is generally quiet, with bald eagles occasionally sighted along the lake.

Roads into the Grangerland area are RV-friendly. Most parks are reached via FM 1485, FM 3083, or short spurs off I-45 at Conroe, and the main recreation areas around Lake Conroe accommodate large rigs without tight turns or narrow forest roads. Expect tall loblolly pines, sandy soil, and shaded pull-through or back-in sites at the developed private parks. Full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, water, sewer, and Wi-Fi are standard at the larger resorts, while national forest sites vary from full hookup at Cagle to more basic setups at Stubblefield and primitive tent camping at Kelly Pond. Cell service is reliable near town and along I-45 and thins out inside the national forest. Mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers, and fire ants are active from spring through fall, so bring repellent and check pets after walks.
