Campgrounds and RV parks near Heath, TX

The lake drives most local recreation. In summer, visitors swim, picnic at lakeside parks, rent canoes, kayaks, or stand-up paddleboards, and fish the 22,000-acre lake for striped bass and catfish. There is no camping around Lake Ray Hubbard, but Robertson Park is a large day-use area with excellent bank fishing access and two boat ramps, and additional ramps and services are available at other city parks and private marinas around the lake. On land, the Heath Golf and Yacht Club has a golf course and walking and biking trails near the lakeshore. Rockwall's Harbor district offers waterfront dining, splash pads, and weekend events that work well for families. Day trips are easy: downtown Dallas, the Dallas Arboretum, the Perot Museum, and AT&T Stadium in Arlington are all within a one-hour drive.

North Texas has a humid subtropical climate with a long, usable RV season. Dallas experiences mild winters and hot summers, with summers that are very hot and rather humid. Spring, from March through May, is the most popular travel window: temperatures are comfortable, wildflowers bloom, and lakeside recreation ramps up. It is also the wettest and stormiest stretch, with thunderstorm and tornado risk. Since Dallas lies at the lower end of Tornado Alley, tornadoes have on occasion been a threat, and most tornadoes hit during the months of April and May. Summer brings heat that regularly pushes past 100°F, with July averaging around 85.7°F. Shaded pull-throughs and 50-amp service become important. Fall cools quickly by October and is a favorite time for extended stays. Winter is generally mild but variable, with a December-February average of about 48.8°F. Freezing overnight temperatures can happen anytime from November to March, normally totaling around 23 nights a year, and freezing rain can cause major disruptions when roads become slick. Most private parks in the Heath area stay open year-round.

Parks in the Heath and Rockwall area lean suburban rather than rustic. Expect paved or gravel pads, full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, laundry, and Wi-Fi at most locations. Amenities typically include picnic areas, dog parks, and community spaces, with some resorts adding fitness rooms or pools. Rig standards are enforced at some parks. Expect requests for driver's license, license plate numbers, and vehicle photos at check-in. Pet rules are common: leashes required, waste pickup enforced, and some breed restrictions may apply. Cell coverage and highway access are strong throughout the area. Traffic on I-30 into Dallas backs up during weekday rush hours, so plan arrivals and departures accordingly. Summer thunderstorms can be intense but usually brief; secure awnings and outdoor gear before leaving the site.
