Camping near Henrietta, Texas
Henrietta sits in Clay County in North Texas, about 20 miles east of Wichita Falls along US 287 and roughly halfway between the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and the Red River. The town works well as a quiet base for RV trips built around the reservoirs, rolling prairie, and small-town Texas culture of the region.
The closest full-service camping is at Lake Arrowhead State Park, a Texas Parks & Wildlife property on a 16,200-acre lake just south of Wichita Falls, with water and electric loops, water-only sites, primitive walk-in camping, and an equestrian area. In Wichita Falls itself, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Wichita Falls, Wichita Falls RV Park, and the Burkburnett / Wichita Falls KOA Journey on the north side of the metro give travelers full hookups and standard commercial-park amenities.
For a change of scenery, Waurika Lake Marina & Campgrounds lies across the Red River in southern Oklahoma, roughly an hour north, and is part of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir with several developed lakeshore areas.
Things to do near Henrietta
The lakes drive most of the activity. Lake Arrowhead State Park is a fishing park first: anglers target crappie, bass, and catfish from a lighted pier, and no fishing license is required inside the park. About five miles of trails are open to hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders, and the park has a disc-golf course, boat ramps, a swim area, and equestrian campsites.
Waurika Lake offers open-water boating and skiing, swimming beaches at Kiowa Park I and Chisholm Trail Ridge, and public hunting units managed by the Corps and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.
In town, Wichita Falls adds a walkable riverfront in Lucy Park, the recreated 54-foot Wichita Falls waterfall, the World's Littlest Skyscraper downtown, and the Hotter'N Hell Hundred bicycle event each August.

North Texas has a humid subtropical climate with long, very hot summers and cool winters. Wichita Falls records some of the highest summer daily maximums in the state, with July average highs near 99°F and afternoon temperatures often reaching or exceeding 100°F from mid-summer into early fall. Summer RV travelers should plan for shade, water, and electric sites to run air conditioning.
Spring is the busiest and most volatile season. May is the wettest month at the Wichita Falls station, and the area sits within Tornado Alley, so severe thunderstorms are most common from April through June. First freeze typically arrives around mid-November and the last freeze around mid-March, so shoulder-season trips are possible but overnight lows can drop well below freezing.
At Waurika Lake, Corps of Engineers campgrounds such as Kiowa Park I and Chisholm Trail Ridge operate primarily from spring through early fall, and lake levels can swing several feet after heavy spring rain, which affects shoreline sites and boat ramps.

How to book campgrounds near Henrietta
Lake Arrowhead State Park reservations go through Texas Parks & Wildlife, either online at the state parks reservation site or by phone with the customer service center. The overnight reservation window opens up to five months in advance, while day passes are available up to one month ahead, and the park often reaches capacity on weekends and holidays. If arriving after the office closes at 5 p.m., campers must self-register at the pay station and check in at park headquarters by 9 a.m. the next morning.
Waurika Lake sites at Corps campgrounds such as Kiowa Park I and Chisholm Trail Ridge are handled through Recreation.gov, with some loops on a first-come, first-served basis.
Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Wichita Falls, Wichita Falls RV Park, and the Burkburnett / Wichita Falls KOA Journey each take reservations directly through their own websites or brand booking systems.
What to expect on the ground
Landscape around Henrietta is open mesquite prairie with scattered timber, cropland, and reservoirs rather than dense forest, so shade at campsites is limited and afternoon sun is strong. Wind is a near-constant factor, and awnings should be stowed when storms are in the forecast.
Cell coverage is generally good near Wichita Falls and along US 287, but can weaken at points along Lake Arrowhead's outer loops and around parts of Waurika Lake. Lake Arrowhead State Park has no entry gate, a dump station, and shower facilities in the water-electric campground; other restrooms are accessible but do not have showers.
Groceries, fuel, and RV supplies are easiest to pick up in Wichita Falls before heading to the parks, since services around the lakes themselves are limited to what neighboring small towns provide.
