Campgrounds near Highland Park, Texas
Highland Park is an enclave surrounded by the city of Dallas, so RV travelers base themselves at parks scattered around the greater Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. There are no campgrounds inside Highland Park itself; the closest options sit within a short drive along the I-35 and I-635 corridors, offering full hookups and quick access to downtown Dallas, Love Field, and DFW International.
Good Luck RV Park sits along I-35 south of downtown, with 30/50-amp hookups, shade trees, and laundry. Sandy Lake MH and RV Resort in Carrollton is a large full-hookup park with a pool, clubhouse, and pull-through sites. Plantation Place RV Park, Dallas Shady Oaks RV Park, and Dallas Hi Ho RV Park round out the closest options for travelers who want an urban base.
For a more traditional camping experience, Cedar Hill State Park sits about 20 miles from downtown Dallas on Joe Pool Lake, adding hiking, swimming, and lakefront sites to the mix.
Things to do near Highland Park
Highland Park Village and the surrounding Park Cities offer walkable shopping and dining, while the adjacent Dallas Arts District puts the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science within a short drive. Families gravitate to the Dallas Zoo, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden on White Rock Lake, and Reunion Tower for skyline views.
Sports and event travelers can reach AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field in Arlington in under thirty minutes, along with Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor. For outdoor time, Cedar Hill State Park offers hiking, biking, picnicking, geocaching, swimming, fishing, and boating or paddling on Joe Pool Lake.

Dallas has a humid subtropical climate with mild winters and hot summers. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with warm days and cool nights. Spring also brings the most volatile weather: cool fronts from Canada collide with warm, humid Gulf air, generating severe thunderstorms with lightning, torrents of rain, hail, and occasional tornadoes, since Dallas sits at the lower end of Tornado Alley, with most tornadoes hitting during April and May.
Summer runs long and hot. In July and August, the average high is near 96 degrees and the average nighttime low is around 77 degrees, and days exceeding 100 degrees happen several times each summer, so shaded sites, 50-amp service, and reliable air conditioning matter. Summer is also peak booking season for family-friendly urban parks and Cedar Hill State Park.
Winters are generally mild, but a Blue Norther can bring sudden and possibly large temperature drops, and warm humid air overriding cold, dry air can produce freezing rain that disrupts travel. Most Dallas-area RV parks stay open year-round.

How to book near Highland Park
For private parks around Dallas, reservations are made directly with the property by phone or through the operator's own website, with some listed on platforms such as Campspot or RoverPass. Good Luck RV Park, Sandy Lake MH and RV Resort, Plantation Place RV Park, Dallas Shady Oaks RV Park, and Dallas Hi Ho RV Park generally operate year-round, and weekends around major Dallas events fill quickly.
Cedar Hill State Park campsite reservations can be made up to five months in advance through the Texas State Parks reservation system operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife, and popular summer and holiday weekends often book out on the day the window opens. Day-use entrance passes are available up to one month in advance and are not transferrable, and the park often reaches capacity, so reservations for camping and day use are highly recommended.
What to expect on-site
Urban RV parks around Dallas are practical rather than scenic. Most sites are level with concrete or gravel pads, full hookups, 30/50-amp service, and Wi-Fi of varying reliability. Sandy Lake MH and RV Resort offers larger-park amenities including a pool, clubhouse, and dog park. Good Luck RV Park sits close to the freeway, so expect traffic noise but easy access to downtown.
At Cedar Hill State Park, all 350 developed campsites are near restrooms with hot showers, all sites have water and electricity, 150 have sewer hookups, and several sites are ADA-accessible. The county is under a quarantine to prevent the spread of the emerald ash borer, so movement of firewood is restricted and it should be purchased locally.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Highland Park, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Highland Park, TX?
RV rental in Highland Park, TX is more affordable than most travelers expect, especially compared to hotel stays in the nearby Park Cities area. On RVezy, towable travel trailers around Highland Park typically average about $125-$175 per night, while motorhomes (Class A, B, and C) average around $200-$300 per night depending on size and age. Many hosts offer weekly or monthly discounts, and shoulder-season trips in March-April or October-November tend to be the most affordable. For a cheap RV rental in Highland Park families love, filter by travel trailers with delivery included and you will skip the tow vehicle cost entirely. Pro tip: book at least 6-8 weeks ahead of Texas-OU Weekend or State Fair of Texas dates to lock in the best rates.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Highland%20Park%2C%20TexasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Highland Park?
Good news: for nearly every RV rental in Highland Park, TX, your regular driver's license is all you need. Texas Department of Public Safety only requires a non-commercial Class A or B license if the RV's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating exceeds 26,000 pounds, which is rare on RVezy listings. The vast majority of Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers around Dallas fall well under that limit and are covered by a standard Class C driver's license. You'll also need to be at least 25 years old to book, and RVezy verifies your ID right in the app. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set to roll.
dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/classes-driver-licensesWhat protection comes with my RV rental in Highland Park?
Every RV rental in Highland Park, TX booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you drive away. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose the coverage level that fits your comfort at checkout (you pick this, not the host). Add the included 24/7 roadside help (flat tires, lockouts, jump-starts, towing) and you can hit I-35 or US-75 with confidence. For most first-time renters, this is the single feature that makes booking that first trip feel easy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Highland Park RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a money-back grace period after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refund amounts after that window depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. Review the cancellation details on the RVezy checkout page before you confirm so you know exactly what applies to your trip. Pro tip: if severe spring storms are in the forecast, message RVezy support right away. The team has handled plenty of last-minute Texas weather curveballs.

Absolutely, and you've got plenty of options. Just use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to find a pet-friendly RV rental Highland Park hosts have set up specifically for furry travelers, sometimes with extras like pet beds or built-in crates. Once you're rolling, Highland Park itself is dog-loving territory: Lakeside Park along Turtle Creek and the trails around Highland Park Village welcome leashed pups, and many local cafes have water bowls out front. Heading to a campground? Cedar Hill State Park and Lake Lavon's parks both allow leashed pets on trails and at campsites. Message the host before booking if you've got a large breed or multiple pets, so they can confirm the cleaning fee and any rules upfront.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/cedar-hill/park_infoCan the RV be delivered to me in Highland Park?
Yes, RV delivery Highland Park is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who don't want to drive a big rig through Park Cities or onto Mockingbird Lane. Many hosts will deliver the RV directly to your campground, hotel parking lot near Highland Park Village, or even a private driveway, then handle the full setup and walkthrough so you're not figuring anything out alone. Popular delivery destinations from Highland Park include Cedar Hill State Park (about 25 miles), Lake Lewisville campgrounds (about 30 miles), and Lake Ray Roberts (about 50 miles). RV camping Highland Park travelers also love Ray Roberts Lake State Park (Isle du Bois Unit) about 60 miles north for cleaner skies and stargazing. Pro tip: state parks book up 5 months ahead, so reserve early on the Texas Parks and Wildlife site.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/ray-roberts-lakeWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from Highland Park?
The sweet spot for an RV rental in Highland Park, TX is mid-March through late May and again from mid-September through early November, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to mid-80s F and humidity drops. Summers (June-August) are intense in North Texas, with average highs near 96 F and frequent 100 F days, so you'll want strong air conditioning and shaded campsites. Winters are mild, with January highs around 57 F, making December-February a smart time for snowbirds chasing cheap RV rental Highland Park rates. Heads up: spring brings dramatic thunderstorms (Dallas sits at the southern edge of Tornado Alley), so check forecasts and choose campgrounds with sturdy shelters in April and May.
weather.gov/fwd/dmotempI've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll be just fine, and you definitely won't be left to figure it out alone. Every RVezy host gives you a full orientation at pickup: how to operate the slide-outs, water tanks, generator, AC, propane, and dump valves, plus a driving walkthrough. First time renting an RV in the Dallas-Fort Worth area? Stick with a Class B campervan or a small Class C (under 25 feet) so you can navigate the narrow lanes of Mockingbird Lane, Preston Road, and the Dallas North Tollway without stress. Even better, ask your host about delivery so the RV is already parked at your campsite when you arrive. Pro tip: practice in an empty parking lot near NorthPark Center before hitting the highway. Twenty minutes is usually all it takes to feel confident.
txdot.gov/safety.htmlWhat happens if something goes wrong on my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Highland Park, TX through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and mechanical breakdowns across the US and Canada. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip, just a call or message away. Your host is usually the fastest first call for questions about the RV itself (Where is the breaker? How do I extend the awning?), and most respond within minutes. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's number to your phone before leaving Highland Park so you are never fumbling on the shoulder of I-635.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Highland Park RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Cross-state travel is on the table. From Highland Park you can drive your RVezy rental into Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and beyond. Some hosts also welcome trips into Canada with advance notice, just message them through the listing first. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage stops at the border. Popular cross-border routes from Highland Park include Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas (about 5 hours), the Wichita Mountains in Oklahoma (about 3.5 hours), and Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico (about 9 hours). Pro tip: confirm any out-of-state plans with the host through the RVezy message thread before you book, especially for trips longer than a week.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will I spend on fuel for a Highland Park RV trip?
Fuel is one of the more predictable parts of your budget. Class B campervans around Highland Park get roughly 18-22 mpg, Class C motorhomes 10-14 mpg, and Class A coaches 7-10 mpg. Towable travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, typically 10-14 mpg combined. Texas gas prices tend to run below the national average, and stations along US-75 and the Dallas North Tollway are plentiful. A weekend trip to Cedar Hill State Park (50 miles round trip) might cost $15-30 in fuel for a Class C, while a four-day loop to Hill Country could run $200-300. Pro tip: fill up at Buc-ee's in Terrell or Royse City on your way out of town. Cheaper prices, cleaner restrooms, and the brisket sandwiches are worth the stop.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campsite near Highland Park?
Reserve early and you'll thank yourself. Texas State Parks (Cedar Hill, Ray Roberts, Eisenhower, Lake Mineral Wells) open reservations 5 months in advance through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, and popular weekends, especially March-May and September-October, fill within hours of opening. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Lake Lewisville, Lake Lavon, and Lake Grapevine book through Recreation.gov up to 6 months out. Private RV parks like The Vineyards Campground and Loyd Park typically have more availability but still sell out 4-6 weeks ahead in peak season. Pro tip: if you're flexible on dates, Sunday-Thursday arrivals open up dramatically more sites, often at lower rates, and make for a quieter Highland Park RV trip.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat's it like driving an RV in and around Highland Park?
Driving in Highland Park itself is calmer than most Dallas neighborhoods, with tree-lined streets like Mockingbird Lane, Preston Road, and Armstrong Parkway, but the 30 mph residential speed limits and tight turns mean a Class B campervan or smaller Class C is the smarter choice over a full-size Class A. Watch for posted parking restrictions in Highland Park's residential blocks, and avoid low railroad overpasses near Central Expressway with anything over 13 feet. Once you are on US-75, the Dallas North Tollway, or I-635, lanes are wide and traffic flows well outside rush hour (7-9 a.m. and 4-6:30 p.m.). Pro tip: leave town mid-morning or after 7 p.m. to skip the worst congestion.
hptx.org/239/PoliceWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Highland Park?
Most campgrounds within an hour of Highland Park offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), making your RV camping Highland Park trip practically effortless. Cedar Hill State Park has paved pads, water/electric, dump stations, hot showers, and a fish-cleaning station. The Vineyards on Lake Grapevine adds a pool, marina, and Wi-Fi. Loyd Park on Joe Pool Lake has full hookups plus a swim beach. For dump stations and freshwater fills along your route, Buc-ee's in Royse City and several Pilot/Flying J stations on I-20 and I-35 are RV-friendly. Pro tip: download the Sanidumps or RV Dumps app before you leave Highland Park. It maps every public dump station within 200 miles, including free ones at select rest areas.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/cedar-hill/fees-facilitiesWhat's inside a typical RV rental from Highland Park?
You will be surprised how well-equipped these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Highland Park comes with a queen or king bed, plus bunks or convertible dinettes that sleep 4-8 people total, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware), a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate-controlled AC and furnace, and seatbelts for traveling passengers. Many include a flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi hotspots, generators, or solar. A campervan rental in Highland Park (Class B) is more compact but still includes a bed, kitchenette, and often a wet bath. Hosts usually provide linens, kitchenware, outdoor chairs, and a starter kit of toilet paper and dish soap. Pro tip: review the listing's amenity list and message the host for anything you cannot find.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Highland%20Park%2C%20TexasWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Highland Park offer a great mix of add-ons that can make your trip easier: generator hours (great if you are boondocking), bedding and towel packages, camp chairs and tables, propane fills, bike racks, and outdoor grills. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Highland Park or a nearby Dallas-area neighborhood, with a 30-60 minute walkthrough so you leave feeling confident. Many hosts offer delivery to your campsite (often free within a set radius), and some allow late-evening pickups for early-morning trips. Mileage policies vary, so check whether the listing offers unlimited mileage or a daily allotment with reasonable overage rates. Pro tip: bundle delivery, bedding, and camp chairs into one package. It usually beats buying them piecemeal.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Highland%20Park%2C%20TexasHow do payment and the security deposit work for my Highland Park RV rental?
Payment is simple and fully handled through RVezy, so you never hand cash or a check to the host. Your card is charged for the booking total (nightly rate, fees, protection plan, taxes) when the reservation is confirmed, and a refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before the trip starts. Deposit amounts are set by the host and vary by RV. As long as you return the rig in the agreed condition (clean, fueled, tanks emptied per host instructions), the hold is released after the trip. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos of the RV's exterior, interior, and odometer at pickup and dropoff. It is the easiest way to avoid disputes and start your next Highland Park RV trip stress-free.
