Campgrounds near Lake Worth, Texas
Lake Worth sits on the northwest edge of Fort Worth, wrapped around a city reservoir built in 1914 on the West Fork of the Trinity River. It is a practical base for RV travellers who want lake access without leaving the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Lake Worth was built in 1914, and land around the West Fork of the Trinity River to protect the drinking water quality for the community.
Campground options in the immediate area lean toward private RV parks rather than public land. Nearby choices include Eagles Resorts RV Storage, Hideaway 23 Lakefront RV & Cabins, West Bay Marina and RV Park, Avondale RV Park, and Shady Lane RV Park, most offering full hookups suited to larger rigs. The north end of the lake is anchored by the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, which provides access for hiking, paddling, and wildlife viewing.
For a public-land alternative within about a half-hour drive, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds line Benbrook Lake southwest of Fort Worth, and Lake Mineral Wells State Park sits roughly an hour west for travellers who want a Texas State Parks option.
Things to do near Lake Worth
The dominant draw is the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge on the north end of the lake. The center covers 3,621 acres and includes over 20 miles of hiking trails. It is one of the largest city-owned nature centers in the United States. Amenities and attractions include 20 miles of hiking trails, a resident bison herd and prairie dog colony, a marsh boardwalk and the Hardwicke Interpretive Center. Camping is not permitted inside the refuge itself.
The Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge Paddling Trail is a water trail that is a 6-7 mile long loop that can take around 2-3 hours to float through. This section of the West Fork of the Trinity River is located between Eagle Mountain Lake dam and Lake Worth. Alligators are present in the refuge, so paddlers should keep a respectful distance.
Downtown Fort Worth, the Stockyards, the Fort Worth Zoo, and the Botanic Garden are all within a short drive for a day off the water.

North Texas has a humid subtropical climate with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. The Dallas/Fort Worth annual mean temperature is 66.6°F, with an average of 20 100-degree days per year and 29 freezes per season. That shapes the RV season: spring and fall are the sweet spots, summer is workable with strong air conditioning and shade, and winter stays open at most private parks.
Spring brings the heaviest rainfall and the region's severe-weather season, with thunderstorms, hail, and occasional tornadoes possible from March into May. Summer heat regularly pushes daytime highs into the mid-90s; lake time, early hikes, and shaded sites become priorities. Refuge hours reflect the seasonal shift: refuge hours run 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. October through April and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. May through September, with no entry after 4 p.m.
Fall cools quickly through October and November and is often the most comfortable stretch for outdoor activity. Winter freezes happen but rarely last long.

How to book near Lake Worth
Private RV parks around Lake Worth, including Eagles Resorts RV Storage, Hideaway 23 Lakefront RV & Cabins, West Bay Marina and RV Park, Avondale RV Park, and Shady Lane RV Park, are booked directly with each operator by phone or their own website. Confirm rig length limits, hookup amps (30 vs. 50), and pet or age restrictions before locking in dates.
For public campgrounds on nearby Benbrook Lake, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers uses Recreation.gov. Bear Creek Campground is open April through September, while Holiday Park operates year-round. For Texas State Parks such as Lake Mineral Wells, most overnight camping or lodging reservations may be reserved up to five months in advance, and the five-month reservation window opens at 8 a.m. through the Texas Parks & Wildlife reservation portal.
Aim to book major holiday weekends as soon as the window opens, and shoulder-season weekends a few weeks out.
What to expect on-site
Most RV parks around Lake Worth are small to mid-size private operations with paved or gravel pads, full hookups, and basic amenities such as laundry, showers, and WiFi. Some sites host a mix of overnighters and long-term residents, so expect a quieter, more residential feel than a destination resort.
Lakefront and marina-adjacent parks may offer boat ramps, fishing access, or slips, while inland parks trade lake views for easier access to Fort Worth attractions and highways. Rig-size tolerance varies by park, so confirm pull-through length and turning radius before arrival with larger fifth wheels or Class A coaches.
Cell coverage across the major U.S. carriers is generally strong throughout the Lake Worth area given its proximity to Fort Worth. Groceries, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are all available within a short drive along Jacksboro Highway (SH 199) and nearby feeder routes.

Planning a bigger Lake Worth RV trip to Big Bend or the Gulf Coast? Filter for unlimited-mileage listings so you can roam Texas freely. weather.gov/fwd/I'm a first-time RV renter, will I know how to use everything?
You're in great hands. First time renting an RV is exactly what RVezy hosts are set up for. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from Lake Worth, TX?
Lake Worth is a perfect launchpad for an RV road trip into the best of Texas. Top routes: Possum Kingdom Lake (about 90 minutes west, with dramatic cliffs and clear water), Lake Mineral Wells State Park (about 50 minutes west, with hiking and Penitentiary Hollow climbing), Austin and the Hill Country (about 3.5 hours south via I-35), Big Bend National Park (8 to 9 hours southwest, the ultimate Texas adventure), and Broken Bow, Oklahoma (about 3.5 hours northeast for piney forest camping). Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance restrictions, so plan U.S. routes and confirm any cross-border travel with your host first.
nps.gov/bibe/index.htmHow much should I budget for fuel on a Lake Worth RV trip?
Fuel is easier to budget than you might expect. Most Class C motorhomes you'll rent in Lake Worth average 8 to 10 miles per gallon, travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves (your tow vehicle does, usually 10 to 14 MPG when towing), and campervans like a Ford Transit can reach 16 to 18 MPG. Check the EIA for current Texas gas and diesel averages, which are typically below the national average. For a weekend at Eagle Mountain Lake (about 50 total miles), budget a small amount for fuel. A 600-mile round trip to Big Bend will use considerably more, so plan ahead. Buc-ee's locations along I-35W offer competitive diesel pricing and easy RV pull-through lanes.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Lake Worth?
For the best campgrounds near Lake Worth, lock in your site early. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds at Benbrook Lake (Holiday Park, Bear Creek, Mustang Point) release reservations up to 6 months in advance on Recreation.gov, and spring and fall weekends fill quickly. Texas state parks like Lake Mineral Wells and Cleburne use the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system (up to 5 months out) and book up just as fast. Private parks like Shady Hill RV Park are easier, usually 2 to 4 weeks ahead is fine, though holiday weekends still go quickly. Sunday through Thursday nights are wide open almost year-round, making midweek trips the insider move for stress-free Lake Worth camping.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat's it like driving an RV around Lake Worth and Fort Worth?
Driving around Lake Worth is genuinely manageable, even for first-timers. The town sits on Highway 199 (Jacksboro Highway) with wide lanes and easy access to Loop 820, so reaching campgrounds doesn't require navigating downtown Fort Worth. Avoid rush hour on Loop 820 and I-35W (roughly 7 to 9 AM and 4 to 7 PM) and skip the narrow streets of the Fort Worth Stockyards in anything over 25 feet, parking at the Cowtown Coliseum lot instead. Watch for low clearances under rail bridges in Fort Worth (some as low as 11 feet 6 inches) and check your RV's height before you set out. Use TxDOT's road conditions map to spot construction zones on your route.
drivetexas.org/What amenities do campgrounds near Lake Worth offer?

Eagle Mountain Park has potable water near the boat ramp, handy for a quick top-off between adventures.

Expect a real bed (queen or king in most Class C and Class A rigs, plus convertible dinettes and bunks), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, an enclosed bathroom with toilet and shower, roof-mounted air conditioning (essential for North Texas summers), a propane furnace for cool January nights, and seatbelts for every traveler. Many hosts include a TV, Wi-Fi hotspot, onboard generator, outdoor speakers, and even Starlink. Listings show every feature with photos, so you know exactly what you're getting. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lake%20Worth%2C%20TexasWhat add-ons can I get with my motorhome rental in Lake Worth?
Plenty of useful extras are available with your motorhome rental in Lake Worth. Common host add-ons include bedding and linen packages, camp chairs and outdoor tables, kitchen kits with pots and dishes, generator use, portable propane fire pits (helpful because many DFW-area campgrounds restrict wood fires during burn bans), bike racks, kayaks, and Starlink Wi-Fi. Pickup and drop-off are typically at the host's location, and many hosts offer delivery to Shady Hill RV Park, DFW Airport, or your driveway. Mileage policies and add-on fees are listed transparently on every listing. Ask your host about bundling multiple add-ons to simplify packing for your trip.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/burn-bansHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure. RVezy handles everything through the platform so you never hand cash to a host. You pay with a credit or debit card at booking, and the security deposit is a pre-authorized hold (not a charge) placed on your card before pickup, separate from your booking payment. Hold amounts vary by RV and are released after you return the rig clean, on time, and undamaged, typically within a few business days. To avoid issues: take time-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, return with the fuel and propane levels noted at start, and follow the host's dump and cleaning instructions.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park my RV overnight in Lake Worth besides campgrounds?
You have solid options for where to park an RV in Lake Worth beyond formal campgrounds. Some Walmart Supercenters and Cracker Barrel locations in the area allow one-night RV parking with manager approval, so always call ahead to confirm. Cabela's in Fort Worth, about 15 minutes south near I-35W, is known to be RV-friendly with a dedicated overnight area. City of Lake Worth ordinances generally prohibit overnight RV parking on residential streets and in city parks, including areas around Lake Worth and Marion Sansom Park, so plan to use a campground, host driveway, or an approved business lot. For true convenience, book a delivered RV directly to Shady Hill RV Park for the easiest stress-free setup.
