Campgrounds and RV parks near Livingston, TX

Lake Livingston is the main draw. The reservoir supports fishing for catfish, white bass, and crappie, plus boating, jet skiing, and swimming. Crappie are active in the spring and early summer, bluegill and channel catfish bite along the shoreline year-round, and white, striped and largemouth bass fish from spring through fall, with white bass especially plentiful. Pin Oak Loop and Red Oak/Yaupon Loop sites at Lake Livingston State Park put boat ramps, a fishing pier, and lakeside trails within walking distance. Off the water, the state park offers about 5.7 miles of trails through pine and hardwood forest, plus a nature center and ranger programs. The Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation east of town on U.S. 190 offers cultural sites and Big Thicket access. Downtown Livingston has small restaurants, hardware and grocery stops for provisioning, and the Polk County Courthouse square for a short in-town break.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel around Livingston. March through May brings warm days, cooler nights, and active fishing on Lake Livingston, though thunderstorms are frequent and can be heavy. Fall, from late September into November, cools off gradually and tends to be drier than spring, with color in the hardwoods by early November. Summer is hot and humid. Summer temperatures average around 81 degrees, and highs sometimes reach 100 degrees, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Lake use peaks around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day weekends, so state park loops and popular private parks fill early. The Atlantic hurricane season also runs June through November, and remnants of Gulf systems can bring flooding rain to Polk County. Winter is short and mild by national standards, with occasional cold fronts and freezing nights. Snow is essentially absent, and most Livingston-area campgrounds stay open year-round, making December through February a quieter option for RV renters willing to trade lake swimming for lower demand.

Roads into the Livingston area are paved and RV-friendly. U.S. 59 is the main north-south route from Houston, and U.S. 190 handles east-west traffic. State park loop roads are paved but narrow in spots, so drivers of larger Class A rigs and long fifth wheels should confirm site length limits before booking. Hookups vary. Full-hookup sites in the Red Oak, Yaupon, and Pin Oak loops at Lake Livingston State Park include water, sewer, and 50-amp electric. Private parks such as Blue Sky Lake Livingston RV Park and Cabins and Lake Livingston RV Park generally provide full hookups, Wi-Fi, and laundry. Expect biting insects from late spring through early fall, alligators in some lake coves, and afternoon heat that makes shade and A/C useful. Cell coverage is reliable in town and adequate at most lakeside parks.
