Campgrounds near Longview, Texas
Longview sits in the Piney Woods of northeast Texas along Interstate 20, roughly halfway between Dallas and Shreveport. RV parks in the area extend east to west along either side of Interstate 20, scattered across the Piney Woods region of northeast Texas. The mix of privately run RV parks close to town and public campgrounds at nearby lakes gives travelers easy choices for both quick overnight stops and longer stays.
For in-town and I-20 access, Fernbrook Park, North Point RV Park, Cowboy Camp RV Park, Twisted Pines RV Park, and Antique Capital RV Park all cater to RV travelers with full hookups and pull-through options. Antique Capital RV Park is positioned to explore Gladewater, Longview, and Kilgore, while the other parks cluster close to interstate exits for easy on-and-off access.
Public options expand the range further. Lake O' The Pines is managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers and is located near Jefferson, Texas, and includes about 18,700 acres of water and 9,000 acres of land located in the piney woods of Northeast Texas. Martin Creek Lake State Park, near Tatum, adds a state-park option within easy driving distance.
Things to do around Longview

How to book campgrounds near Longview
Private RV parks in and around Longview, including Fernbrook Park, North Point RV Park, Cowboy Camp RV Park, Twisted Pines RV Park, and Antique Capital RV Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Big-rig pull-throughs and full hookups are common, so confirm site length and amp service when booking.
For public lands, the booking systems differ by agency. Campsites at Lake O' The Pines are managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, with reservations made through Recreation.gov. Camping reservations can also be made by phone at 1-877-444-6777. Reservations for Martin Creek Lake State Park campsites can be made online through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) website or by phone, and advance reservations are highly recommended, particularly during peak seasons. Texas State Parks reservations can be made up to 5 months in advance.
What to expect on the ground
Expect shaded pine-forest sites at the lakes and more open, paved or gravel sites at the in-town RV parks. At Alley Creek there are 49 RV campsites with hard-surfaced pads, and each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, lantern holder, water hydrant, and electrical connections. The campgrounds around Lake O' The Pines generally provide water and electric hookups, though sewer connections are limited to certain locations like Buckhorn Creek and Johnson Creek. At Martin Creek Lake, developed campsites are equipped with water and electricity hookups, and some also offer sewer connections for RVs.
At Martin Creek Lake State Park, the gate is open from 6am to 10pm. Insects, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms are common from late spring through early fall, so bring shade, bug spray, and surge protection.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) only requires a non-commercial Class A or B license when a recreational vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) exceeds 26,000 pounds, which is far heavier than most travel trailers, campervans, and Class C motorhomes on RVezy. Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set to roll into the Piney Woods.

tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/caddo-lake/fees-facilities/campsitesWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Longview, TX?

Late July brings the Great Texas Balloon Race, the city's signature event and worth planning a trip around.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Longview RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier expenses to plan for here. Texas gas prices typically sit below the national average, and Longview has dozens of stations along Interstate 20, Highway 259, and Loop 281 where big rigs can pull in comfortably. Budget around 8-10 miles per gallon (MPG) for a Class C motorhome, 6-8 MPG for a Class A, and 12-18 MPG for a campervan or small trailer setup. A typical 4-day Longview RV trip covering 300 miles will run you roughly $100 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Buc-ee's in Terrell on your way in from Dallas, or in Marshall along I-20, both have easy RV access and competitive prices.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I reserve a campground near Longview?
Plan ahead and you'll lock in the prime spots. For Texas state parks like Caddo Lake and Martin Creek Lake, reservations open up to 5 months in advance through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reservation system, and full-hookup sites for spring weekends fill within hours. For private RV parks around Longview, 2 to 4 weeks out is usually plenty outside of holiday weekends. The Great Texas Balloon Race in late July books out months ahead across all Longview RV parks. Midweek arrivals (Sunday through Thursday) are easier to snag and often cheaper, even at the most popular spots.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/caddo-lake/fees-facilities/campsitesWhat are local driving conditions like around Longview?
Driving here is genuinely relaxed compared to most metro areas. Longview sits at the junction of Interstate 20 and Highway 259, both wide, flat, and well-maintained, perfect for a first motorhome rental Longview drivers will find easy. Watch for spring thunderstorms with heavy rain from April through June, and slow down on rural Farm-to-Market roads where shoulders can be narrow. East Texas terrain is gently rolling pine forest, so there are no mountain passes or steep grades. Severe weather season peaks in spring, so check forecasts before heading out. Avoid Loop 281 around 5 p.m. on weekdays for the only real local traffic of the day.
weather.gov/shv/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Longview?
You'll be comfortable. Most RV parks near Longview offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer) at every site, along with laundry, hot showers, Wi-Fi, and propane refills. Many private parks include pools, concrete pads, and recreation halls, while Caddo Lake State Park offers a dump station, potable water fills, and a fishing pier. For boondocking or partial-hookup state park sites, plan to dump and fill at the park's central station before departure. Keep a 25 to 30 foot sewer hose in your kit, since some Longview sites space hookups farther from the pad than you would expect.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/caddo-lake/fees-facilities/campsitesWhat features and amenities come with a typical Longview RV rental?
Comfort is the standard. Most RVs listed in Longview on RVezy come with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave), a bathroom with toilet and shower, queen or king beds, dinette seating with seatbelts, a roof-mounted air conditioner (essential for those 90°F+ July afternoons), a furnace for cool winter nights, and a TV. Many also include a generator, outdoor awning, and outdoor speakers. Wi-Fi varies by host, but cellular coverage is strong across Gregg County so a hotspot works great. For a family RV trip Longview hosts often add extras like camp chairs, board games, and kid sleeping bags. Each listing has a full amenities checklist, no guessing required.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Longview%2C%20TexasWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Longview campervan rental?
You can customize your trip to fit perfectly. Popular add-ons offered by Longview hosts include linens and towel packages, camping kits with chairs and lanterns, generators if not already included, and bike racks. A campervan rental Longview travelers love often comes with extras like a portable grill or paddleboards already stocked. Pickup is typically at the host's home or a meeting spot near Interstate 20, and most hosts ask for a 1 to 2 hour orientation window. Look for Instant Book listings if you want to confirm immediately without waiting for host approval. Each add-on, fee, and mileage cap is shown clearly on the listing before you reserve.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Longview%2C%20TexasHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Longview?
It's straightforward and secure. When you book your RV rental in Longview through RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit card, never cash or off-platform transfers, which also keeps your protection plan valid. A refundable security deposit, set by the host and typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV class, is held separately from your booking payment and released after your trip once the host confirms no damage or excess cleaning. Avoid issues by taking time-stamped photos of the RV at pickup and drop-off, following the host's fuel and dump-tank return rules, and keeping your check-out walkthrough thorough. RVezy support can help mediate any deposit dispute.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle Longview's summer heat in an RV?
Stay cool and you'll love every minute. Longview summers regularly reach the low to mid 90s°F with high humidity from June through August, so prioritize an RV with a strong roof air conditioner (most rentals on RVezy have this) and request a campsite with 50-amp service so you can run AC plus appliances simultaneously. Park in the shade whenever possible, since Tyler State Park and many local private parks have plenty of pine canopy. Drive in the morning when temperatures are coolest, and keep window shades drawn during the hottest hours. Shoulder seasons in April and October give you 70s°F days, lower campground rates, and the same lush Piney Woods scenery.
