Camping near Lucas, Texas
Lucas sits in Collin County on the western side of Lavon Lake, roughly 30 miles northeast of downtown Dallas. The lake is the region's main draw for RV travelers, a 21,400-acre reservoir on the East Fork of the Trinity River, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with boat ramps, swim beaches, and public campgrounds distributed around the shoreline.
RV options range from lakeside marina sites to inland parks a short drive from town. Collin Park Marina, on the west side of the lake near Wylie, offers over 50 RV sites with full hookups, three boat ramps, a swim area, and direct access to the Trinity Trail. Lafon's RV Parks, Country View RV Park, Sundowner RV Park, and Hidden Valley RV and Tiny Home Park round out nearby options for travelers who prefer a smaller private park.
The location works well as a base for exploring the wider Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. McKinney, Allen, and Plano are within a short drive and offer groceries, fuel, and family attractions such as the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary.
Things to do near Lucas
Lavon Lake is built around fishing and boating. Anglers target largemouth bass, white bass, crappie, and channel catfish, with heavy tournament activity across the lake from April through September. Collin Park Marina hosts a neighboring pontoon and party-barge rental operation and runs a fuel dock and ship store for supplies.
On land, the 25.5-mile Trinity Trail loops the lake with eleven access points and is open to hikers, joggers, birders, and equestrians. Trailhead status changes, so travelers should confirm access before setting out.
For a family day off the water, the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary in nearby McKinney has a 289-acre preserve, over six miles of nature trails, a butterfly house, and indoor and outdoor exhibits.

Summer is hot and humid. Highs regularly push past 95F and occasionally over 100F, and afternoon thunderstorms are possible. Lavon Lake bass tournaments run heavily from April through September, and the on-water restaurant at Collin Park Marina operates seasonally through spring and summer, so lakeside amenities are at their fullest during this window.

Booking a site near Lucas
Corps of Engineers campgrounds around Lavon Lake are reserved through Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Reservations typically open several months in advance, and peak-season weekends fill early, so book as far ahead as possible for spring holidays, summer weekends, and fall fishing tournaments.
Private parks are booked directly. Collin Park Marina takes RV reservations by phone or email through the campground office, sends an email confirmation, and directs arriving campers at the gate. Smaller nearby parks including Lafon's RV Parks, Country View RV Park, Sundowner RV Park, and Hidden Valley RV and Tiny Home Park book direct as well, and monthly and seasonal stays are common, so call ahead to confirm nightly availability.
What to expect on arrival
Corps campgrounds on Lavon Lake use controlled-access gates. Attended gates are secured nightly, with vehicle entry closed between 10 p.m. and 10 a.m., quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and camper check-out at 2 p.m. Day-use visitors must leave by sunset. Plan arrivals accordingly if traveling long distances.
Expect standard RV hookups, hot showers, and boat ramps at most developed sites. Some Corps sites are water and electric only, with a dump station near the park entrance rather than sewer at each pad. Pets are welcome on leash in most locations.
Site conditions vary. Some lakeside pads are uneven, so leveling blocks and a small mat can be useful. The nearest full fuel and grocery stops are in Wylie and McKinney.
