RV camping near Nocona, Texas
Nocona sits along U.S. Highway 82 in Montague County, north-central Texas, about eight miles south of Lake Nocona and roughly ninety minutes from Wichita Falls and Denton. The small city serves as a practical base for RV travellers heading to the lake, the surrounding ranch country, and the Red River corridor along the Oklahoma border.
Campgrounds close to town lean toward small, family-run RV parks with full hookups, level pads, and pull-through sites. Cruisers RV Park sits between the lake and historic downtown Nocona and offers 50-amp full hookups on concrete pads. The Veranda Inn, Campers Paradise RV Park, Flying Horse RV Park, and The Ooak RV Park and Campground round out the closest options for travellers looking for straightforward overnight or extended stays.
Lake access is handled separately from the private parks. Three public lake parks, Weldon Robb, Joe Benton, and Boone, provide boat ramps and shoreline access on Lake Nocona and are open year-round with no fee at the ramps.
Things to do around Nocona
Lake Nocona is the main draw. The three public lake parks all have concrete boat ramps and shoreline access, and the water is popular for kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, and fishing. Anglers target crappie and catfish across most of the year, with largemouth bass fishing peaking in spring as fish move into shallow vegetation.
On land, RV travellers can walk the historic downtown, play the local golf course, or make short day trips to Bowie for Second Monday Trade Days. Wichita Falls and Denton, each about ninety minutes away, add museums, restaurants, and shopping for rainy-day plans.

North-central Texas has a humid subtropical climate with hot, muggy summers and mild winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel and are the busiest booking seasons around the lake. Daytime highs sit in the seventies and low eighties, and the surrounding ranchland greens up after spring rains.
Summer runs hot. July and August routinely see afternoon highs in the mid-nineties, overnight lows in the low seventies, and heat advisories are common. Travellers with kids should look for shaded pads, 50-amp service for air conditioning, and quick lake access. Thunderstorms can be severe in late spring and early summer, so it is worth checking National Weather Service alerts before travel.
Winter is quiet. Highs typically reach the low fifties, overnight lows dip near freezing, and light snow is possible from December through March. Most private RV parks stay open year-round, but expect reduced services and fewer neighbours.

Booking an RV site near Nocona
Most private RV parks in the Nocona area are small, independently owned operations. Sites at Cruisers RV Park, The Veranda Inn, Campers Paradise RV Park, Flying Horse RV Park, and The Ooak RV Park and Campground are typically booked directly through the park by phone or website, or through third-party platforms such as Roverpass, Campendium, and Hipcamp.
The three public lake parks on Lake Nocona, Weldon Robb, Joe Benton, and Boone, are open year-round with no fee at the boat ramps. A local ordinance limits camping in these parks to 15 days at a time, so confirm current rules with the City of Nocona before planning an overnight stay. Spring weekends, holiday weekends, and summer fishing tournaments fill private sites first, so book several weeks ahead.
What to expect on the ground
Expect small-town Texas hospitality and modest, no-frills RV parks rather than resort-style destinations. Sites at Cruisers RV Park are level with concrete pads, easy pull-throughs, and full 50-amp hookups; other nearby parks follow a similar pattern with gravel or grass pads.
Most parks do not run an on-site store, so stock groceries, water, and supplies in Nocona or Bowie before arrival. Cell coverage is generally reliable near town and along U.S. 82, but can be spotty on the back roads around the lake.
Roads into the smaller lakeside parks are paved or well-maintained gravel, and big rigs are handled at most of the closest parks. Bring insect repellent in warmer months, a heat-safe plan for pets in summer, and freshwater tackle if the lake is on the itinerary.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Nocona%2C%20TexasWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Nocona, Texas?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular Texas (or out-of-state) driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Nocona. The Texas Department of Public Safety does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal RVs, even the larger Class A motorhomes you'll find on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before your trip. Most renters are surprised how simple the process is.
dps.texas.gov/section/driver-licenseIs RV insurance and roadside assistance included with my Nocona RV rental?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Nocona comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. You choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), picking the option that fits your comfort level, and the plan covers eligible damage to the RV during your trip. If you have a flat near Lake Nocona or a battery hiccup on US-82, one phone call gets help dispatched. The combined coverage and roadside support is what makes first-time renters comfortable saying yes to that Texas RV trip.

The exact refund terms depend on how close to your trip start date you cancel, and full details are spelled out clearly in the RVezy Help Center before you book. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credits so your trip plans stay protected. Pro tip: message the host before booking with any timing or weather questions so you can lock in confidently.

They'll level the rig, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees typically run a few dollars per mile from the host's location. Winters are mild with highs in the 50s and occasional freezes, which makes Nocona one of the few Texas spots with year-round RV season. Local insider tip: visit the second weekend of June for Nocona's Chisholm Trail celebration, it's a perfect excuse for a Nocona RV trip with small-town Texas charm.
weather.gov/fwd/I've never rented an RV before. Will I know how to use everything?
First time renting an RV? You're in great hands. Every RVezy host in Nocona gives you a complete walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery), covering the propane system, water tanks, slide-outs, generator, awning, and how to dump and refill. Most hosts also leave a quick-reference binder in the RV and stay just a text away during your trip. Nocona's flat farm roads and the wide-open lots at places like Cruisers RV Park give new drivers an easy environment to get comfortable. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 25 feet for your first Nocona RV rental, they handle just like a large pickup and fit any local site.

You're never stranded on an RVezy trip. Most Nocona hosts welcome interstate travel within the continental US, just confirm your route in your booking message. Mexico travel is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection coverage does not extend south of the border. If you're dreaming of a longer haul, popular RV road trips from Nocona include routes through New Mexico, Colorado, or down to the Gulf Coast. Pro tip: confirm your daily mileage allowance with the host before booking a multi-state route.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will I spend on fuel for an RV trip from Nocona?
Fuel is one of the easier line items to budget for an RV road trip from Nocona, thanks to Texas having some of the lowest gas prices in the country (averaging $2.75 to $3.25 per gallon in 2026). Expect roughly 8 to 10 MPG for a Class C motorhome, 10 to 14 MPG for a campervan rental in Nocona, and 12 to 16 MPG for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. A 200-mile weekend loop to Lake Texoma and back typically costs $55 to $85 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Love's Travel Stop in Gainesville (25 miles east on US-82) before bigger trips, it has high-flow diesel pumps and easy RV access.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Nocona?
For the smoothest Nocona RV trip, aim to book campgrounds 4 to 8 weeks ahead in spring and fall, and 2 to 3 months ahead for summer holiday weekends like Memorial Day and July 4th. Lake Nocona's Weldon Robb Park sites go through the City of Nocona reservation system and fill quickly on bass-tournament weekends. Eisenhower State Park on Lake Texoma uses the Texas Parks & Wildlife reservation portal and opens bookings 5 months out, expect waterfront sites to disappear within hours. Private parks like Cruisers RV Park and Flying Horse RV Park are typically bookable directly by phone. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday to Wednesday) are almost always wide open, even in peak season.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are the roads and driving conditions like around Nocona?
Driving an RV in and around Nocona is refreshingly easy. The main routes (US-82, US-81, and TX-175) are wide, flat, and lightly trafficked compared to Texas metros. Nocona itself is a small town of about 3,000 people, so you'll never face urban congestion or low clearances. Watch for sudden spring thunderstorms (March to May), which can bring strong crosswinds across the open prairie, and slow down at dusk when white-tailed deer cross rural roads. The Red River bridge into Oklahoma can be windy, so a slower 55 mph crossing keeps things comfortable. Pro tip: avoid driving an unfamiliar Class A motorhome during the late-afternoon thunderstorm window in spring, mornings are calmer and easier on first-timers.
