Campgrounds and RV parks near Oak Ridge, TX

Cedar Creek Lake is the main outdoor draw within an easy drive. The reservoir covers roughly 32,000 acres across Kaufman and Henderson counties and is known for largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie, with public boat ramps at several access points around the shoreline. Tom Finley Park on the shoreline offers a day-use waterfront area managed by Friends of Cedar Creek Lake. Terrell, just north on Highway 34, has small-town shopping, restaurants, and the No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum, which covers a World War II pilot-training program based at the local airfield. Downtown Kaufman offers a historic courthouse square with cafes and antique shops. Dallas attractions, including the Dallas Zoo, Perot Museum, and Fair Park, are about 45 minutes west via US-175 or I-20, making day trips practical from any of the local RV parks.

Spring, from mid-March through May, is the most popular RV season. Temperatures are mild, Texas bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush bloom across the prairie, and Cedar Creek Lake fills with anglers targeting spawning bass. May is also the wettest month across North Texas, and severe thunderstorms with hail and occasional tornadoes are common during this period, so travelers should monitor National Weather Service alerts. Summer is hot and humid. Daytime highs in July and August routinely reach the mid-90s Fahrenheit, and heat indices push higher. RV sites remain available, but sun exposure matters when picking a spot, and lake activities shift toward early morning and evening. Fall, from late September into November, brings the second peak for camping: cooler air, lower humidity, and steady fishing on Cedar Creek Lake. Winter is generally mild with occasional cold snaps and rare ice events. Most private RV parks in the area operate year-round, though some seasonal amenities such as pools close from late fall through early spring.

Expect standard Blackland Prairie terrain: mostly flat to gently rolling, with pastureland and scattered oak groves. RV parks in the area are typically level gravel or grass sites with full hookups, and most cater to a mix of overnight travelers, workers, and monthly guests rather than resort-style vacationers. Cell coverage on the major carriers is generally strong throughout Kaufman County, and grocery stores, propane, and RV supplies are available in Terrell and Kaufman. Interstate 20 provides quick access in and out of the area, but travelers using Highway 34 or rural farm-to-market roads should watch for narrow shoulders and slow-moving farm equipment. Summer sites without shade can get hot. Travelers should confirm 50-amp service if running two air conditioners, and ask about pull-through length when towing a large fifth wheel.
