RV camping near Ovilla, Texas
Ovilla sits in the southern arc of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, straddling Dallas and Ellis counties about 25 minutes south of downtown Dallas. RV travelers use it as a quiet residential base with quick access to Joe Pool Lake to the west, Cedar Hill State Park, and the wider DFW attraction network.
Close-in options lean toward small, full-hookup private parks. Loyd Park, on the west shore of Joe Pool Lake, covers about 791 acres and has 221 camping sites with water and electric hookups plus access to a community dump station, along with restrooms, showers, and camping cabins. Dallas Hi Ho RV Park, Northside RV Resort, and Good Luck RV Park cover shorter stays and pass-through travelers, while Traders Village RV Park sits along the Hwy 360 corridor with level concrete pads, laundry, recreation hall, pool, restrooms and showers, dog park, and an on-site convenience store.
Cedar Hill State Park, on the opposite shore of Joe Pool Lake, is the largest public option in the immediate area and books through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system.
Things to do near Ovilla
Joe Pool Lake anchors most outdoor plans. Loyd Park offers a swim beach, four-lane boat ramp and dock, sand volleyball courts, playground, hiking, biking, and equestrian trails, a paddling trail, and canoe and kayak rentals.
Cedar Hill State Park adds more than four miles of hiking trails plus the DORBA mountain-bike trail network and additional lake access. The park sits at the intersection of the cross timbers and blackland prairie ecoregions and hosts over 200 species of birds along with various mammals and fish in Joe Pool Lake.
Off-water, families use Ovilla as a base for Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Ripley's Believe It or Not in Grand Prairie, and the Traders Village flea market, which operates on weekends alongside amusement rides adjacent to the RV park.

December - February
57° / 37°F 55 mmMild days, occasional freezes; disconnect hoses on cold nights
Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this area. March through May brings mild temperatures and wildflowers, but it is also one of the wettest stretches, with May typically the peak thunderstorm month. Severe storms, hail, and tornado watches are common across North Texas in April and May, so campers should track NWS alerts and know where the campground shelter or restroom block is located.
Summer runs hot and humid. July and August are the warmest months, with average highs in the mid 90s Fahrenheit and overnight lows in the mid 70s. Shaded, 50-amp sites are worth prioritizing for air-conditioning load. Lake use peaks between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and weekend sites at Loyd Park and Cedar Hill State Park fill well in advance.
Winter is mild but variable. January is the coolest month, with average highs in the mid 50s Fahrenheit and lows near freezing on the coldest nights. Occasional freezes and ice events do occur, so RVers should be ready to disconnect hoses on short notice.

How to book campgrounds near Ovilla
Public campgrounds around Joe Pool Lake use two separate reservation systems. Camping on Joe Pool Lake is permitted at Cedar Hill State Park and Loyd Park. Cedar Hill State Park bookings go through the Texas State Parks reservation portal operated by TPWD and can be made up to five months in advance for stays of up to 14 consecutive nights, after which campers must vacate the park for one night before returning. Day passes are recommended for weekends and holidays.
Reservations are advisable at Loyd Park, especially on weekends, and can be made online through the City of Grand Prairie Loyd Park website.
Private options such as Dallas Hi Ho RV Park, Northside RV Resort, Good Luck RV Park, and Traders Village RV Park book directly with each park by phone or website. Weekend and holiday sites fill fastest, so travelers should reserve several weeks ahead in peak season.
What to expect on the ground
The area mixes suburban and lakefront settings. Private parks along the US-67 and I-20 corridors are convenient for pass-through travel with concrete pads, full hookups, and Wi-Fi, but sites can be tight and close together. Traders Village RV Park uses level concrete pads and adds laundry, a recreation hall, a convenience store, a pool, restrooms and showers, and a dog park.
Public lake parks feel more spread out. Individual campsites at Loyd Park average about 1,000 square feet and each has a picnic table, pavilion, grill, and fire ring, with a mix of lakefront and shaded wooded sites.
Expect solid cell coverage and grocery access within a short drive in any direction, summer heat that runs long into the evening, and lake-adjacent insects near dawn and dusk. Rig-size limits vary by loop, so confirm length and slide-out clearance when booking.

Plans change, and RVezy has you covered with a clear, consistent cancellation policy that applies to every booking. You can review the full cancellation policy on RVezy before you confirm your booking.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an Ovilla RV rental?
Absolutely. Finding a pet-friendly RV rental Ovilla travelers love is as simple as ticking the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy. Many hosts welcome dogs, sometimes with a small cleaning fee, and some include a pet bed or bowls. Once you're rolling, Cedar Hill State Park allows leashed pets on trails and at campsites, and Joe Pool Lake has shoreline areas perfect for a swim. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl since Ovilla summers regularly top 95F, and plan walks before 10 a.m. or after sunset to keep paws safe on hot pavement.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/cedar-hillCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Ovilla?
Yes, RV delivery Ovilla is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer straight to Cedar Hill State Park, Loyd Park on Joe Pool Lake, or your driveway in Ovilla, Waxahachie, or Red Oak, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. Filter by Delivery on the search page, message the host with your destination, and you'll get a quote that often includes setup, dump-out, and pickup at the end of the trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ovilla,TexasHow far can I drive on a typical Ovilla RV rental?

Some listings even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for longer hauls. From Ovilla you're about 30 minutes to downtown Dallas, 90 minutes to Waco and Magnolia Market, 3 hours to Austin, and roughly 5 hours to the Texas Hill Country wineries around Fredericksburg. Pro tip: if you're planning a bigger RV road trip from Ovilla to Big Bend or the Gulf Coast, message the host before booking and ask about an unlimited-mileage add-on.

Treetops RV Resort near Arlington is a favorite for families heading to Six Flags. Pro tip: Cedar Hill books up fast on weekends, so reserve as soon as the 5-month window opens through Texas Parks and Wildlife.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/cedar-hill/fees-facilities/campsitesWhen is the best time of year for an Ovilla RV trip?

Summers are intense, with July and August averaging mid-90s highs and heat-index values that can hit 105F or more, so plan for early-morning hikes and AC-friendly campsites with 50-amp hookups. Winter is mild, averaging mid-50s highs in January, which means year-round camping is genuinely doable. Pro tip: April brings Texas bluebonnets along the roadsides between Ovilla and Ennis, making it the most photogenic month for an Ovilla RV trip.
weather.gov/fwd/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll be just fine, and first time renting an RV in Ovilla is easier than most people expect. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup or delivery: they'll show you how to operate the generator, slides, water system, dump valves, and propane, and they'll answer questions by text throughout your trip. If you're nervous, start with a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental Ovilla hosts list, and choose delivery so the host parks and levels the rig for you. Within a day you'll feel like a pro.
txdps.state.tx.us/driverlicense/What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
Help is one phone call away, around the clock. Every motorhome rental Ovilla booking through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing when needed. North Texas has dense service coverage and many RV-certified shops within an hour of Ovilla, so getting back on the road is typically fast. Your host is also a direct text away for quick questions, like how to reset the inverter or where the water heater switch lives. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and the roadside number on day one so you have everything in your phone before you need it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Ovilla RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Cross-state travel is the whole point of an RV road trip from Ovilla, and most hosts allow trips into Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, and beyond. Popular multi-state runs include Hot Springs, Arkansas (about 5.5 hours northeast) and New Orleans (around 8 hours east). Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals, since insurance and roadside coverage do not extend across that border. If you're planning a longer haul, just message the host before booking to confirm your route and any mileage add-ons. Then map your overnight stops, because Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas all have excellent state-park RV camping along the way.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on an Ovilla RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, and Texas gas prices typically run below the national average. Plan on about 8-10 miles per gallon for a Class C motorhome, 6-8 mpg for a Class A, and 10-14 mpg for the tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. From Ovilla, a round trip to Cedar Hill State Park barely registers, while a weekend run to Lake Whitney (about 90 miles each way) might use $60-$90 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Buc-ee's in Ennis on I-45 before heading south, the prices are usually competitive and the bathrooms are legendary, which matters more than you'd think on an RV trip.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Ovilla?
For peak weekends, book as early as you can. Texas State Parks like Cedar Hill open reservations up to 5 months in advance through the official Texas Parks and Wildlife site, and prime lakeside spots for spring, Memorial Day, July 4th, and fall weekends can fill quickly. Private parks like Rockett RV Park generally have more flexibility but still book up 2-4 weeks ahead in season. Weekdays are dramatically easier and often cheaper. Pro tip: line up your RV rental in Ovilla first, then immediately reserve your campsite, you'll thank yourself when everyone else is calling around the Friday of a holiday weekend.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/cedar-hill/fees-facilities/campsitesWhat are the driving conditions like around Ovilla?
Ovilla driving is friendly for RVs: flat terrain, wide farm-to-market roads, and easy access to I-35E and US-287. The biggest things to watch for are Dallas-Fort Worth rush-hour traffic (avoid I-35E northbound between 7-9 a.m. and southbound 4-7 p.m.) and spring thunderstorms from March through May, which can bring heavy rain, hail, and gusty winds. Stick to interstates and US highways for the smoothest ride, and avoid downtown Dallas streets like Elm and Commerce where low clearances and tight turns aren't RV-friendly. Pro tip: if you're heading to Cedar Hill State Park from Ovilla, take FM 664 west to FM 1382 north instead of fighting I-20 traffic, it's prettier and far less stressful.
drivetexas.org/How do I deal with the Texas summer heat in an RV?
Beating the Ovilla summer heat is all about smart planning, and modern RVs are well-equipped for it. Most rentals on RVezy come with roof-mounted air conditioning sized for Texas climates, and many include a second AC unit or a generator so you stay cool even off-grid. Book a campsite with 50-amp full hookups at Cedar Hill State Park so you can run AC continuously without worrying about the generator. Drive in the morning when temperatures are coolest, park in shade when possible, and use reflective window covers during the day. Pro tip: late September weekends still feel like summer but cost less and book more easily, the smart-money move for a family RV trip Ovilla.
weather.gov/safety/heatWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Ovilla?
Campgrounds around Ovilla are well-equipped for RVers. Cedar Hill State Park offers 30/50-amp electric, potable water at every site, hot showers, flush toilets, and two dedicated RV dump stations near the entrance. Private parks like Treetops RV Resort and Starry Night RV Resort typically add full sewer hookups at the site, laundry, pools, and Wi-Fi. You can refill fresh water at any state park or private park entrance, and there are public dump stations at Loyd Park and several Love's Travel Stops along I-35E. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a sewer hose with clear elbow, and a surge protector. Many hosts include these, but confirm with your host before pickup so you're not scrambling.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/cedar-hill/fees-facilities/campsitesWhat's typically included inside an Ovilla RV rental?
Most Ovilla rentals come fully equipped to live comfortably from night one. Expect a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette and sofa sleepers, a full kitchen with refrigerator, freezer, microwave, propane stove and oven, a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate-controlled AC and furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many listings also include a flatscreen TV, backup camera, outdoor speakers, generator, and on-board fresh, grey, and black water tanks. Wi-Fi varies: some hosts include a mobile hotspot, others rely on your phone tethering, which works great across most of North Texas. Pro tip: scan the listing's amenity icons and ask the host directly about linens, cookware, and outdoor chairs so you know exactly what to pack.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ovilla,TexasWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Ovilla offer plenty of add-ons that can make your trip easier. Popular extras include delivery and setup (often priced per mile from the host's location), generator hours for off-grid camping, propane refills, dump-and-fill services at the end of the trip, bike racks, outdoor grills, kitchen kits, and linen packages. Pickup logistics are flexible: meet the host at their location, arrange delivery to Cedar Hill State Park or your driveway, or schedule a drop-off the night before your trip starts. Mileage policies are listed clearly on each listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a dump-out add-on and your entire RV experience becomes basically turnkey, ideal for a first family RV trip Ovilla.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ovilla,TexasHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure, all handled through RVezy with a credit or debit card at the time of booking, so there's no cash exchange with the host. A refundable security deposit is held (typically authorized, not charged) before your trip and released back to your card after a clean return, similar to a hotel deposit. The deposit covers minor issues outside the protection plan, like missing equipment or excessive cleaning. To avoid deductions, take timestamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and dropoff, return it with a fresh water fill, dump the tanks if your booking requires it, and refuel to the agreed level.
