Camping near Pelican Bay, Texas
Pelican Bay is a small city in the far northwest corner of Tarrant County, Texas, sitting on the western shore of Eagle Mountain Lake. The community takes its name from Pelican Island in the lake and serves as a quiet lake-access point for RV travelers exploring the greater Fort Worth region, roughly 20 miles northwest of downtown.
Eagle Mountain Lake is a roughly 8,700-acre reservoir in North Texas used for boating, fishing, and outdoor recreation. The reservoir was formed by damming the West Fork of the Trinity River and sits between Lake Bridgeport upstream and Lake Worth downstream. The surrounding area has picnic areas, walking trails, campgrounds, and restaurants.
RV options close to Pelican Bay include West Bay Marina and RV Park, Hideaway 23 Lakefront RV & Cabins, Shady Lane RV Park, The Pines RV Community, and Clean Living RV Park. Lakeside parks fill quickly on summer weekends, so plan ahead.
Things to do around Pelican Bay
The lake drives most trips here. Boating, fishing, sailing, wakeboarding, water skiing, and kayaking are all common on Eagle Mountain Lake, and multiple public boat ramps and commercial marinas offer access to the water. Bass, catfish, and crappie are the main targets for anglers.
On land, families can hike and picnic at Eagle Mountain Park on the eastern shore, or head into Fort Worth for the Stockyards, the Fort Worth Zoo, and the Kimbell Art Museum. The Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, just south of the lake, offers boardwalks through wetlands and prairie, with bison often visible from marked trails.

North Texas has a long warm season and short, mild winters. Fort Worth gets plenty of hot weather, highs in the 80s Fahrenheit can show up anytime of year, most summer days reach at least 90 degrees, and typically 17 of those days heat up into the 100s. Summer is peak season on Eagle Mountain Lake for boating, tubing, and swimming, and lakefront RV sites fill weeks out for holiday weekends like Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.
Spring is the wettest stretch and the most volatile, with thunderstorm and tornado activity possible from March through May. Fall brings warm days, cooler nights, and generally quieter campgrounds after Labor Day, making it a strong window for RV travel.
Freezing temperatures aren't unusual during winter at Fort Worth, and the city typically has 32 frosty nights from November to March with the coldest nights dropping into the teens Fahrenheit, though usually everything thaws out during the day. Most private RV parks in the area operate year-round, though water hookups may be affected during hard freezes.

Booking an RV site near Pelican Bay
Campgrounds around Eagle Mountain Lake are privately operated, so reservations go directly through each park rather than through a state or federal reservation system like Texas State Parks or Recreation.gov. Book by phone or through each property's website, and confirm rig length, slide clearance, and hookup type before arrival.
Eagle Mountain Lake is a busy lake during the summer months, so calling ahead is important for lakefront pads. For sites at West Bay Marina and RV Park or Hideaway 23 Lakefront RV & Cabins, aim to book summer weekends and holidays four to eight weeks out. Shady Lane RV Park, The Pines RV Community, and Clean Living RV Park often have more flexibility on shorter notice.
What to expect on arrival
Expect a mix of destination lake parks and long-stay communities. West Bay Marina and RV Park offers more than 225 full-hookup RV sites, including an adults-only section, and many pads at lakefront parks function as semi-permanent spots. Travelers should ask specifically for a transient or short-stay pad when booking.
Roads into lakefront parks can be narrow with tight turns near the shoreline, and some pads sit on gravel rather than concrete. Cell coverage is generally solid across the Fort Worth metro side of the lake. Bring insect repellent in warm months, sun shade for open pads, and expect boat traffic noise on summer weekends near the marinas.

Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need for almost every RV on RVezy in Pelican Bay. Texas only requires a non-commercial Class B license for single vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, which only applies to some of the largest Class A motorhomes. Travel trailers, campervans, and Class C motorhomes are well under that threshold, and that's what most first-timers book. Private parks around Eagle Mountain Lake and Azle generally recommend booking 6 to 8 weeks ahead for summer weekends and 2 to 3 weeks for shoulder seasons. Midweek stays are much easier to grab last-minute. Tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly 5 months before your target date and log into the TPWD reservation site early in the morning, prime lakeside sites disappear quickly.

The main things to watch are spring and early summer thunderstorms (especially May and June) and the occasional winter ice event in January, when locals typically wait 24 hours for roads to clear. Avoid downtown Fort Worth's tight one-way streets in a big rig, and stick to loops like I-820 and TX-121. tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/facilities/campsitesWhat's inside an RVezy rental in Pelican Bay?
You're getting a fully equipped home on wheels. Most RVs on RVezy in the Pelican Bay area come with a real bed (often a queen), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a full bathroom with shower and toilet, a dinette, air conditioning (essential for Texas summers), and propane heat for cool winter nights. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and an onboard generator for off-grid camping. Wi-Fi varies by host, but cellular boosters are common. Seatbelted passenger seats vary by rig, so confirm with your host how many people can ride safely while driving. Tip: filter by Sleeps count to match your group size, and message the host to confirm whether linens, kitchen kits, and outdoor chairs are included or available as add-ons.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pelican%20Bay%2C%20TexasWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in the Pelican Bay area offer useful add-ons that can make your trip easier. Common options include delivery and setup (often around $2 to $4 per mile), linen and kitchen kits ($50 to $100 flat), generator-hour packages, bike racks, kayaks, outdoor grills, and portable Wi-Fi hotspots. Pickup is usually from the host's home in or near Pelican Bay or Azle, with a walkthrough that typically takes 30 to 45 minutes. Drop-off times are often flexible, and many hosts allow late returns by arrangement. Tip: if you're heading to Eagle Mountain Lake, ask about lake gear add-ons, several hosts include fishing rods or floats. Confirming add-ons at booking is usually cheaper than adding them last minute.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pelican%20Bay%2C%20TexasHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure, with no cash handoffs to the host. You pay through RVezy at booking with a credit or debit card. The security deposit is handled separately from your booking payment and is typically placed as a temporary hold on your card before the trip, often between $500 and $1,500 depending on the RV. It's released after the host confirms the rig is returned in good shape. To avoid deposit issues, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup and document the RV's condition with photos. Tip: return your motorhome rental Pelican Bay with full fuel, empty waste tanks, and a quick interior sweep, those three things prevent most deposit deductions.
