Campgrounds and RV parks near Post Oak Bend City, TX

Fishing and paddling are the main draws at the region's public lakes. Purtis Creek centers on a 355-acre lake with fishing piers, where anglers commonly catch and release largemouth bass or fish for catfish and crappie. Five walking and biking trails are suitable for families, and a designated swim area is open during daylight hours. Cedar Hill State Park, on the 7,500-acre Joe Pool Lake, offers two four-lane boat ramps, two lighted fishing jetties, a perch pond for kids, and the Penn Farm historical site. Day trips into Dallas and its suburbs put museums, the Dallas Zoo, and pro sports within an hour's drive. Closer to camp, Terrell has a small historic downtown and the No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum, plus grocery and hardware runs that keep an RV trip simple. Kaufman hosts community events at its county courthouse square through the warmer months.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in this part of North Texas. From mid-March through May, daytime highs typically run in the 70s and low 80s Fahrenheit, wildflowers cover roadside pastures, and lake levels are usually strong. Spring also brings the region's most active severe-weather season, with thunderstorms, hail, and tornado risk peaking in April and May, so travelers should watch NOAA alerts and choose parks with sturdy hookups. Summer is hot and humid. August is the hottest month, with average highs around 95°F and lows near 75°F, and heat advisories are common in July and August. Shaded sites, working A/C, and lakeside camping become essential. Fall cools quickly after mid-October and stays pleasant through November. October is the wettest month, averaging about 4.5 inches of rainfall over roughly 12 rainy days. Winters are mild but variable: most days sit in the 50s Fahrenheit, though occasional freezes and ice storms can shut down travel for a day or two.

Private RV parks in the Terrell and Kaufman area typically offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, gravel or concrete pads, and Wi-Fi of varying reliability. Expect flat terrain, limited natural shade at some newer parks, and easy pull-through access from the main highways. At Purtis Creek State Park, RV sites include water and electric hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings, with maximum vehicle lengths varying by site. Cedar Hill State Park has 350 developed campsites near restrooms with hot showers; all sites have water and electricity, and 150 also have sewer hookups. The park gate opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m. Cell coverage is generally strong across Kaufman County. Mosquitoes and chiggers are active from late spring through early fall, so bring repellent.
