Campgrounds and RV parks near Rhome, TX

Water recreation drives most day trips from Rhome. Lake Bridgeport to the northwest and Eagle Mountain Lake to the south both support boating, swimming, and bank fishing. Eagle Mountain Lake covers roughly 8,694 acres as a reservoir on the West Fork of the Trinity River, and anglers there target white bass, crappie, largemouth and spotted bass, and catfish. For hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, the LBJ National Grasslands offer nearly 75 miles of multi-use trails across a mix of prairie and post-oak woodland, with dispersed primitive camping for those who want to leave the RV parked and tent out for a night. Decatur, the Wise County seat, is a short drive north for shops, restaurants, and small-town history. Fort Worth's Stockyards, zoo, and cultural district are all within about an hour by vehicle.

North Texas has a long RV season, but weather shapes the experience significantly. Spring, from March through May, brings wildflowers, comfortable daytime temperatures, and the region's wettest stretch. Thunderstorms can be strong, occasionally producing hail and tornado warnings, so travelers should monitor NWS Fort Worth alerts and choose parks with sturdy hookups and clear escape routes. Summers are hot and muggy, and winters are cold and windy. Temperatures at the nearby Decatur station typically range from about 35°F to 95°F over the course of the year. July and August routinely push into triple digits, so shaded sites and 50-amp service for air conditioning become essential. Lakeside locations at Bridgeport and Eagle Mountain are especially popular during the hottest months. Fall is the quiet sweet spot: mild days, cooler nights, lower humidity, and reduced storm activity from late September through November. Winter is generally mild with occasional freezes and rare ice storms. Most private parks stay open year round, but water lines can freeze during hard cold fronts.

Terrain around Rhome is gently rolling prairie mixed with post-oak stands and cattle pasture. Most nearby RV parks are open-plan gravel or grass lots with pull-through and back-in sites, full hookups, and 30/50-amp service. Shade varies site to site, so ask about tree cover if booking in summer. Road access is straightforward. US 287 and Interstate 35W handle the bulk of RV traffic, and rigs of most sizes can reach parks in and around town without tight turns or low clearances. Fuel, groceries, propane, and RV supply stops are easy to find in Decatur, Rhome, and along the 287 corridor. Expect hot pavement in summer, sudden storms in spring, and strong sun year round. Cell coverage is generally reliable on the major carriers throughout the area.
