Campgrounds and RV parks near Richwood, TX

Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge and the neighboring San Bernard refuge sit within a short drive and offer auto tour routes, boardwalks, and coastal birding. Wintering waterfowl, wading birds, and alligators are common sightings, and Big Slough on the Brazoria refuge is a well-known stop. Quintana Beach County Park, on the coast at Freeport, has a lighted fishing pier, west jetty access, hiking trails, and a pedestrian beach. Bryan Beach and Surfside Beach are close by for surf fishing, shelling, and swimming. For a full day out, Brazos Bend State Park lies inland along the Brazos River and is known for alligator viewing, easy family trails, and Saturday-night stargazing at the George Observatory, operated by the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

The area has a humid subtropical climate with hot, sticky summers and mild winters. Snow is essentially unheard of, and most private RV parks operate year round. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. March through May brings warm days, wildflowers, and strong songbird and shorebird migration through the coastal refuges. Late September through November delivers cooler evenings, lower humidity, and productive fishing along the jetties. Summer is the busy season for beach traffic, but heat and humidity climb steeply and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with the highest risk of tropical systems along this stretch of the Texas coast in August and September; travelers should watch National Hurricane Center advisories and confirm evacuation policies with their campground before booking. Winter brings an influx of Winter Texans, so full-hookup sites at private parks around Lake Jackson, Angleton, and Richwood can book weeks ahead from January through March.

Terrain around Richwood is flat and low, sitting only a few feet above sea level, so drainage matters. After heavy rain, unpaved sites and access roads can hold water; concrete pads and gravel loops are common at the newer private parks. Coastal humidity is a constant, and mosquitoes and biting flies are active from spring through fall, so bring repellent and consider a screen room. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the major carriers near town and along State Highway 288, but drops off in the refuge interiors. Alligators are present in bayous, drainage ditches, and refuge waters, so keep pets leashed and children back from the water's edge. Grocery, fuel, propane, laundromats, and RV parts are easy to find in Lake Jackson, Clute, and Angleton, and the beach communities at Surfside and Quintana add seasonal restaurants and bait shops.
