Campgrounds and RV parks near Roxton, TX

Lake Crook sits on Pine Creek north of Paris and is operated by the City of Paris, offering fishing, boating, and picnicking along its shoreline. Anglers target largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie. In Paris itself, families can stop at the local Eiffel Tower replica, a nod to the town's sister-city nickname, along with the Culbertson Fountain on the downtown square, local shops, and the Lamar County Historical Museum. The paved Trail de Paris runs along a former railroad right-of-way east of downtown, providing a shaded, mostly flat route for walking and cycling. Cooper Lake State Park adds camping, hiking, fishing, boating, swimming, and wildlife viewing, along with equestrian trails and boat ramps within a short drive of Roxton.

Paris and the surrounding Lamar County area have a humid subtropical climate with very large seasonal temperature contrasts due to its inland location. Summers are hot, while winters are cold. Rainfall is fairly wet overall, spread fairly evenly throughout the year, though heavy seasonal downpours or afternoon thunderstorms can sometimes occur during the warmer months. Spring is typically the wettest stretch, coinciding with the region's peak severe-weather season. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in Northeast Texas. Summer brings high heat and humidity, but lake-based sites at Cooper Lake and Lake Crook remain popular for swimming and fishing, and holiday weekends fill quickly. Late summer tends to be the driest part of the year. Winter is cooler and quieter, with occasional freezing spells and periodic heavy rain events. Water levels and boat-ramp status can shift with wet or dry cycles. Recent alerts have noted low lake levels closing the Honey Creek boat ramp at the South Sulphur unit, while other ramps at South Sulphur and Doctors Creek have remained open, so it is worth checking park alerts before towing in a boat.

Expect small-town Northeast Texas: quiet county roads, farmland, and easy access to Paris for groceries, fuel, and dump-station stops. Cell coverage is generally solid along U.S. 82 and near Paris, and thinner on back roads toward the lakes. Cooper Lake State Park has two separate units, Doctors Creek and South Sulphur, with developed campsites offering water and electricity hookups, some with sewer, primitive campsites without hookups, and restroom facilities with showers. When traveling to either unit, check the Texas Department of Transportation's website or call 1-800-452-9292 for road closures, as State Highway 71 often closes when it rains. Private parks in the area range from tidy full-service RV resorts to more rural, long-term-friendly settings. Summer heat is real. Plan for strong sun, biting insects near the lakes, and afternoon thunderstorms.
