Campgrounds near Savoy, Texas
Savoy sits in Fannin County along US Highway 82, roughly halfway between Sherman and Bonham in North Texas. The town serves as a low-traffic base for RV travelers exploring the Red River region, Lake Bonham, and nearby state historic sites. Most campgrounds within a short drive fall into three categories: private RV parks along the Highway 82 corridor, city-run lake facilities, and smaller ranch-style parks south toward the Collin County line.
Route 82 RV Park sits inside Savoy itself. Melody Ranch and Lazy L RV Park offer additional private options nearby, while Anna Country RV Ranch extends the range south along US 75. For a public lakeside stay, Lake Bonham is a 1,020-acre recreation destination in the Prairies and Lakes Region of northern Texas, just south of the Texas-Oklahoma border in Fannin County.
Savoy works well as a quiet overnight stop for travelers moving between Dallas-Fort Worth and southern Oklahoma, or as a multi-night base for lake recreation and small-town day trips.
Things to do near Savoy
Lake Bonham anchors most outdoor activity in the area. There is a double-wide launch ramp for boats, an enclosed heated and cooled event center, an open pavilion for parties, a public beach for swimming and a dock for fishing, a playground for the kids, and many camping spots. Crappie fishing is a local draw, and the lake offers biking and hiking trails for active visitors.
Historic sites cluster within a short drive. The Sam Rayburn House State Historic Site sits in Bonham, and Bonham State Park adds hilly trails and a 65-acre CCC-era lake for paddling and fishing. The Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site is a straightforward day trip west via Denison.
For families, downtown Bonham offers restaurants and groceries, and McKinney's historic square sits within an hour to the south for a rainy-day option.

Spring is the busiest and wettest window. May brings the heaviest rainfall of the year, and severe thunderstorms are common across Fannin and Grayson counties. RV travelers should monitor watches and warnings closely and choose sites with shelter access when possible during peak storm season.
Summer is hot and humid. July average high is 95 degrees in the Bonham area, and August often runs similar. Lake sites fill on holiday weekends, and shade is limited at many open-terrain campgrounds around Lake Bonham.
Fall is the most comfortable stretch for camping, with mild days, cooler nights, and lower storm frequency, though October carries a secondary rainfall peak. Winter is mild but variable: January average low is 31 degrees, and occasional cold snaps can drop temperatures well below freezing for a few days at a time. Most private parks stay open year-round, and Lake Bonham Recreation Area is open year-round.

Fantastic Trip! Highly Recommend! We just returned from a wonderful camping trip over the holiday, and we truly had a great time in this RV! It was the perfect home base for our family adventure. The RV was clean, comfortable, and exactly what we needed for a memorable getaway. We really appreciate how quickly the renter responded to our questions and the overall condition of the unit. This RV provided an excellent experience, and we would absolutely rent from them again! Thank you so much for helping us make some great holiday memories!

How to book campsites near Savoy
Public and private campgrounds in the area use different reservation systems. For Lake Bonham Recreation Area, the City of Bonham manages bookings through Campspot, and campsites can be reserved online, and the facility is located on the south shore at the east end of the lake.
Bonham State Park, operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife, uses a separate reservation portal. The park often reaches capacity, reservations are highly recommended for both camping and day use, and passes can be reserved online or by calling the customer service center before a visit. Reservations can be made for today and up to 12 months in advance for many sites, with shorter windows on some standard electric loops.
Private parks including Route 82 RV Park, Melody Ranch, Lazy L RV Park, and Anna Country RV Ranch typically book directly through the operator or through third-party RV platforms.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Savoy is gently rolling Texas blackland prairie dominated by grassland interspersed by woodlands, with scattered oak and pecan trees. Sites at private parks along Highway 82 tend to be level gravel pads with full hookups and 30 or 50 amp service, and many accommodate larger rigs with pull-through options, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, and on-site propane at select parks.
Lake Bonham sites are more rustic. Sites feature electric and water hookups, though sewer availability is inconsistent depending on the site, and the campground maintains clean restrooms, showers, and a dump station; open terrain provides limited natural shade, and water moccasins have been reported near the water's edge at night.
Cell coverage is generally reliable along the Highway 82 corridor and weaker in low-lying areas around the lake. Grocery runs are easiest in Bonham or Sherman.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Savoy%2C%20TexasWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Savoy, TX?
Great news for first-time renters: for almost every RV rental in Savoy, TX, your regular driver's license is all you need. Texas only requires a non-commercial Class A or Class B license if the RV exceeds 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), and the Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and most Class A motorhomes listed on RVezy fall under that limit. You will need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the booking flow. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license. No special endorsement or test needed to enjoy your Savoy RV trip.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Savoy RV trip?
Booking your Savoy RV trip is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation (not the individual host), and the policy is platform-wide and consistent rather than hidden in each listing. If life happens, weather, family, work, or a major event like a North Texas ice storm, RVezy support works with you on options based on how far out your trip is and the circumstances. Book early to secure the best RVs near Lake Texoma during spring break and fall, knowing the cancellation policy is transparent and applied the same way to every booking.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Savoy?
Absolutely, your pup is welcome on the road. Plenty of pet-friendly RV rental options in Savoy show up when you toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy, so you can find the right rig in seconds. Once you're rolling, Bonham State Park (about 15 miles east) allows leashed pets on all trails and at campsites, and Caddo National Grasslands welcomes dogs on the multi-use trails too. Lake Texoma's Eisenhower State Park is another great leashed-pet destination just 30 minutes north. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and to let them know your dog's size, most Savoy hosts are friendly to well-behaved pets and may even leave a bowl and a towel for muddy paws.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/bonham/park_information/petsCan the RV be delivered to me in Savoy or to a nearby campground?
Yes, RV delivery in Savoy is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially for first-time renters. Many RVezy hosts in the Savoy, Bonham, and Sherman area offer delivery and full setup directly to local campgrounds like Bonham State Park, Eisenhower State Park on Lake Texoma, or even a private property or driveway. The host levels the rig, hooks up water, power, and sewer, and gives you a complete walkthrough so you're ready to relax instead of figuring out slide-outs. Filter listings by Delivery on RVezy to see who serves your address or campsite. Pro tip: delivery often costs less than you'd expect within 30 miles of Savoy and saves you from driving a big rig on rural Farm-to-Market (FM) roads.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/bonham/fees-facilities/campsitesHow far can I drive on a Savoy RV trip, and how do mileage policies work?
You've got room to roam. Most hosts on RVezy include a daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 free miles per day) with affordable per-mile rates after that, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, look for that filter when booking. From Savoy, popular drives are well within range: Lake Texoma is about 30 miles north, Dallas/Fort Worth around 75 miles south, Tyler and the Piney Woods roughly 130 miles southeast, Hot Springs, Arkansas about 280 miles east, and Broken Bow Lake, Oklahoma about 170 miles northeast. Pro tip: if you're planning a longer RV road trip from Savoy toward Big Bend or the Gulf Coast, message the host before booking to negotiate a discounted weekly mileage bundle.

Silo Creek RV Resort and Hidden Trails RV Park near Savoy itself offer full hookups and shaded sites. Caddo National Grasslands LBJ Unit gives you primitive lakeside camping just 20 miles east. Pro tip: book Bonham State Park 4 to 5 months out for spring and fall weekends, it fills fast because of its quick access from DFW.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/bonham/fees-facilities/campsitesWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from Savoy, TX?
Honestly, Savoy is a four-season RV destination, but the sweet spots are mid-March through May and mid-September through early November. Spring brings highs in the 70s and wildflowers blooming across the Blackland Prairie, while fall delivers cooler 70 to 80°F days perfect for Lake Texoma. Summers in Savoy are hot, with July and August averaging highs of 93 to 94°F and a heat index that can push past 105°F, so plan early-morning drives and shaded campsites. Winters are mild (highs in the low 50s, occasional freezes), making December and January viable with a winterized rig. Pro tip: late October is the local insider's favorite, low humidity, golden cottonwoods along the Red River, and rates drop noticeably after Labor Day.
weather.gov/fwd/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving it around Savoy?
You'll do great, and Savoy is actually one of the easiest places to learn. First time renting an RV? Your RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, leveling, water, propane, the generator, and slide-outs, so you're never thrown to the wolves. The roads around Savoy are wide, flat, and lightly trafficked, US-82 and US-75 are well-maintained and stress-free compared to big-city driving. Stick to Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, or travel trailers under 25 feet for the easiest learning curve. Pro tip: do a short practice loop on FM-1753 right after pickup before you head to Bonham State Park, ten minutes behind the wheel and you'll feel right at home.
txdot.gov/safety/driving-laws.htmlWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Savoy trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking in Savoy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on US-82, a dead battery at Eisenhower State Park, or a tow needed near Caddo National Grasslands is just one phone call away. Your host is also a direct resource for quirks specific to their RV, and RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip. Tow services cover the major highways through Fannin and Grayson counties, with nearby service centers in Sherman, Denison, and McKinney. Save the roadside assistance number to your phone before pickup and snap a photo of the RV's VIN, you will have everything you need if you ever have to call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Savoy RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Yes to most cross-state adventures, no to Mexico. Your RV rental in Savoy is welcome across the United States and most hosts allow trips into Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and beyond, which is great because Savoy sits just 30 miles from the Oklahoma border. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because the insurance and protection coverage does not extend across the border. Popular interstate RV road trips from Savoy include Broken Bow Lake, OK (about 170 miles northeast), Hot Springs National Park, AR (about 280 miles), and Beavers Bend State Park, OK (about 175 miles). Message your host before booking if you are planning a multi-state loop so they can confirm the route and adjust the mileage package accordingly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Savoy RV trip?
Fuel is more affordable than you'd think in this part of Texas. Savoy and the surrounding Fannin County region typically have some of the cheapest gas and diesel in the state, often 20 to 40 cents per gallon below the national average. Class B campervans usually get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, and large Class A motorhomes 6 to 9 MPG. For a weekend trip to Lake Texoma and back (about 80 miles round trip), expect $30 to $60 in fuel for most rigs. Pro tip: fill up in Bonham or Sherman before heading toward Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge or Caddo National Grasslands, where stations get sparse and pricier.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Savoy?
For most Savoy-area campgrounds, 2 to 5 months ahead is the sweet spot. Texas State Parks like Bonham State Park and Eisenhower State Park use the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) reservation system, and they open bookings up to 5 months in advance, by phone at (512) 389-8900 or online. US Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds around Lake Texoma reserve through Recreation.gov up to 6 months out. Private parks like Silo Creek RV Resort and Hidden Trails RV Park can often be booked just a week or two ahead outside of holidays. Pro tip: spring break (mid-March), Memorial Day, and the first three weekends of October book out fastest, set a calendar reminder 5 months ahead for those dates.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are the local driving conditions like around Savoy, TX?
Driving around Savoy is famously easy. You're on the flat-to-gently-rolling Blackland Prairie, with wide rural highways (US-82, US-75, US-69) and very little traffic compared to Dallas or Austin. The biggest things to watch for are strong crosswinds on open prairie stretches between Savoy and Bonham, occasional severe thunderstorms from March through June (pull into a rest area if a storm warning hits), and the rare winter ice event in January. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk near the Caddo Grasslands, and use lower gears on the Lake Texoma dam roads. Pro tip: avoid US-75 southbound between Sherman and McKinney during weekday rush hour (4 to 6 pm), it's the one true congestion zone within an hour of Savoy.
drivetexas.org/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds around Savoy?
Most campgrounds near Savoy are well-equipped for a comfortable RV stay. At Bonham State Park you'll find 30/50-amp electric, water spigots at every site, a centralized dump station, restrooms with hot showers, and fire rings. Eisenhower State Park on Lake Texoma offers full hookups (water, electric, sewer) at many sites plus lakeside amenities. Private parks like Silo Creek RV Resort and Texoma Shores RV Resort typically include full hookups, free WiFi, laundry, and pools. For freshwater fills and dump stations between trips, Bonham State Park and most Lake Texoma Corps of Engineers parks accept day-use payments. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 30-to-50-amp adapter, Savoy-area parks vary in pedestal type and a small kit covers every campground in the region.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/bonham/fees-facilities/campsitesWhat's typically included inside a Savoy RV rental?
You'll be impressed by how move-in ready these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Savoy, whether a Class B campervan, Class C, or Class A, comes with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, sleeping for 2 to 8 people, air conditioning, furnace heat, and seatbelts for every passenger seat. Most include a generator or shore power capability, a TV, and many Savoy hosts offer WiFi hotspots or Starlink, which is handy since cell coverage thins out near Caddo National Grasslands. Towable travel trailers and fifth wheels offer the same comforts minus the engine. Pro tip: filter listings by Sleeps count and check each listing's amenities list, family RV trips from Savoy often work best in a Class C that sleeps 6 with a dedicated bunk.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/393.93What add-ons and pickup options should I know about for my Savoy RV rental?
Hosts in Savoy make customizing your trip easy. Popular add-ons include camping kits (linens, cookware, dishes, typically $50 to $100 flat fee), generator hours for boondocking, bike racks, kayaks, outdoor grills, and pet packages, all visible on the listing page before you book. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Savoy, Bonham, or Sherman, with a 30 to 60 minute orientation included. Many hosts offer delivery within 30 to 50 miles for a flat fee, perfect if you'd rather meet the rig already set up at Bonham State Park. Mileage policies vary by host, with some offering unlimited miles for local trips. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a camping kit when booking, it often costs less than buying these à la carte and gets your Savoy RV trip started stress-free.
txdmv.gov/motorists/buying-or-selling-a-vehicleHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Savoy?
Payment is simple, secure, and handled entirely by RVezy, no cash or side deals with hosts. You pay through the platform with a credit card when you book, and a refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is placed as a hold on your card a few days before pickup. As long as you return the rig in the agreed condition with the agreed fuel and tanks, the hold is released after your trip. Toll charges, mileage overages, or generator hours are settled through RVezy afterward. Take a quick video walkaround at pickup and dropoff, it takes a couple minutes and makes deposit returns smooth and dispute-free for your Savoy, TX RV trip.
