RV camping near Splendora, Texas
Splendora sits in Montgomery County along US-59/I-69, roughly 35 miles northeast of downtown Houston in the piney woods of southeast Texas. The town is small, but its location puts RV travelers within an easy drive of Lake Houston Wilderness Park, Sam Houston National Forest, and the greater Houston metro attractions.
Private RV parks dominate the immediate area. Grand Texas RV Resort and Turtle Lake RV Park sit closest to town, with 1485 East RV Park and Wild Country RV Park and MH Community serving longer-stay travelers. Peace Of Country RV Park rounds out the local options for those wanting a quieter setting off the main highway.
The region runs on a humid subtropical climate with mild winters and long, hot summers, so most parks operate year-round. Full-hookup pull-through sites are common, and many properties cater to both weekenders visiting Houston-area theme parks and snowbirds staying by the month.
Things to do around Splendora
Lake Houston Wilderness Park in nearby New Caney is the standout outdoor draw, with roughly 20 miles of hiking and biking trails plus additional equestrian mileage, canoe and kayak access on Peach Creek, and fishing along the park's waterways. Sam Houston National Forest, about 40 miles away, adds more piney-woods trails and dispersed camping options.
Family-focused stops sit close to town. Big Rivers Waterpark and Adventures, part of the Grand Texas development, offers water slides, a lazy river, and other attractions, and Speedsportz Racing Park runs go-karts for older kids and adults.
For a longer day trip, Huntsville State Park (about 50 miles north) and Lake Livingston State Park (roughly 60 miles) offer swimming, paddling, and larger lake shorelines.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in the Splendora area. Mid-February through April brings blooming dogwoods and mild temperatures, while October and November deliver cooler nights and lower humidity. These shoulder seasons see the strongest weekend demand at local parks, so booking a few weeks ahead is wise.
Summer is long, hot, and humid. Afternoon highs regularly climb into the 90s from June through August, and heat indices push higher. Shaded sites and functioning 50-amp service for air conditioning matter more than any other amenity during these months. This is also peak Atlantic hurricane season along the Gulf, roughly June through November, with the highest activity from August through October, so watch the National Hurricane Center forecasts.
Winters are short and generally mild, with occasional cold fronts dropping temperatures near freezing. Most private RV parks in the area stay open year-round, and January and February are the quietest booking months.

How to book a campsite near Splendora
The private parks around Splendora, including Grand Texas RV Resort, Turtle Lake RV Park, 1485 East RV Park, Wild Country RV Park and MH Community, and Peace Of Country RV Park, are booked directly with the property by phone or through their websites. Rig length, slide-out count, and hookup amperage should be confirmed at reservation.
Public lands use separate systems. Texas state parks such as Huntsville and Lake Livingston reserve through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reservation system, with sites typically available up to five months in advance. Sam Houston National Forest developed sites are booked on Recreation.gov. Lake Houston Wilderness Park handles camping reservations through the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department.
What to expect on the ground
Expect flat terrain, tall pines, and easy highway access. Most private parks near Splendora offer level concrete or gravel pads with full hookups, 30- and 50-amp service, and pull-through options for larger rigs. Cell coverage is generally strong given the proximity to Houston.
Heat and moisture drive the packing list from late spring through early fall: insect repellent, a rain jacket, and awning tie-downs for sudden thunderstorms. Alligators and venomous snakes are present in area waterways and wetlands, so keep pets leashed near creeks and lakes.
Houston-area traffic can affect arrival timing, especially on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings on I-69. Groceries, fuel, propane, and RV service are all available within a short drive along the US-59 corridor.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Splendora, TX?
RV rental in Splendora is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Piney Woods region of East Texas. On RVezy, you'll typically find travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes between $175 and $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs from $250 and up. Because Splendora sits along US-59/I-69 just 35 miles northeast of Houston, you'll also benefit from competitive Houston-metro pricing without the big-city demand spikes. To score a cheap RV rental in Splendora, book midweek, travel in the shoulder months of March or October, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book to lock in your dates fast during Sam Houston National Forest's peak fall weekends.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Splendora%2C%20TexasWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Splendora, Texas?
Good news: a regular Texas Class C driver's license (or your home state/country equivalent) is all you need to rent an RV in Splendora. Texas does not require a commercial driver's license or special RV endorsement for any motorhome or trailer typically listed on RVezy, even the big Class A rigs. You'll need to be 25 or older to book, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during checkout, so there's no paperwork to print or notarize. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your home country's auto association before you fly in. Most first-time renters are pleasantly surprised at how quick the verification step is, usually just a few minutes from your phone.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I book an RV in Splendora?
Every RVezy booking in Splendora comes with a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right in, so you can hit the road toward Sam Houston National Forest or Lake Livingston with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you get to choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host. That means you can pick the plan that matches your comfort level, whether it's a quick weekend at Lake Houston Wilderness Park or a longer Texas RV trip. Roadside assistance is included with every plan, which removes the biggest worry first-timers have. Pro tip: review the coverage options at booking so you head out feeling fully relaxed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Splendora RV rental?
Booking an RV rental in Splendora is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy across the whole platform. That means you get consistent, transparent terms no matter which Class C motorhome or travel trailer you choose. There's a money-back grace period right after booking, plus protections in place for major disruptions, which matters in Southeast Texas where tropical weather can occasionally rearrange plans in late summer. If something unexpected comes up, RVezy's support team is there to help you sort it out. Pro tip: book earlier rather than later for spring wildflower season or the cooler October weekends; you'll have more flexibility and far better selection than waiting until the last minute.

Sam Houston National Forest's Double Lake Recreation Area is another tail-wagger's favorite. Pro tip: message your host before booking to confirm any pet fee and ask for local off-leash spots; many Splendora hosts are dog parents themselves and have great recommendations.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/pets-in-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground or address in Splendora?
Yes, RV delivery in Splendora is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters who'd rather skip driving a motorhome on I-69. Many local hosts will deliver your travel trailer or motorhome directly to Lake Houston Wilderness Park, Double Lake Recreation Area, a private property, or even your own driveway in the Splendora, New Caney, or Cleveland area. They'll level it, hook up water and power, lower the slides, and walk you through every system before they leave. To find delivery-ready listings, just toggle the Delivery filter when you search. Pro tip: ask your host if they offer a full setup-and-teardown package, it turns your RV camping in Splendora into a true plug-and-play vacation.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Splendora%2C%20TexasHow far can I drive on my Splendora RV rental?

The exact mileage included is shown right on each listing, so there are no surprises. Pro tip: if you're planning a bigger loop, like an RV road trip from Splendora to Austin or Big Bend, message the host before booking to discuss a custom mileage package; many will happily work with you.

Lake Livingston State Park, about 40 miles north, is a Texas classic with waterfront sites and a fishing pier. For something closer, Rayford Crossing RV Resort in Spring has resort-style amenities about 25 miles west. Pro tip: Texas State Parks let you reserve sites up to five months ahead online, so set a calendar reminder for popular fall and spring weekends.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-livingstonWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Splendora?
The sweet spot for an RV trip from Splendora is mid-October through late April, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 60s to upper 70s and humidity drops noticeably. Spring (March to early May) brings wildflowers and warm 75 to 85 degree days, while fall delivers cool nights perfect for campfires under the East Texas pines. Summer (June through early September) is hot and humid, with highs in the low to mid-90s and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so target shaded campgrounds and lake sites like Lake Livingston if you go then. Winter is mild and underrated, often 55 to 65 degrees by day. Pro tip: book a November weekend at Double Lake Recreation Area; the crowds thin out and the forest light is spectacular.
weather.gov/hgx/climateI've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You're going to do great, first time renting an RV in Splendora is genuinely easier than most people expect. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through the generator, slides, water systems, tanks, and driving tips for your specific rig. Splendora is also an ideal launchpad for new renters: US-59/I-69 is wide, flat, and easy to navigate, and you're 35 minutes from quiet forest campgrounds where you can practice setup without pressure. You can message your host anytime during the trip with questions. Pro tip: choose a travel trailer hooked up to your own truck, or a Class C motorhome under 28 feet for your first outing; both are very manageable on local roads.
txdot.gov/safety/driving-laws.htmlWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so whether you're parked at Lake Houston Wilderness Park or driving up US-59 toward Lufkin, help is one phone call away. Roadside assistance covers things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. Your host is also just a message away for quick troubleshooting (often it's something simple like resetting the inverter or priming the water pump). Splendora's location along a major interstate corridor means service centers in Humble, Conroe, and Houston are always close by. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's roadside number at pickup so it's saved to your phone.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Splendora RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Yes, multi-state RV road trips from Splendora are not only allowed but encouraged, you can cross into Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, or anywhere else in the continental US with your rental. Splendora's spot on I-69 makes it a natural launchpad: New Orleans is about 5.5 hours east, Hot Springs, Arkansas is roughly 7 hours north, and the Texas Hill Country is 3.5 hours west. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage stop at the border. If you're planning a longer interstate trip, just let your host know in your booking message so they can confirm mileage works for you. Pro tip: the I-10 east route to Louisiana is gorgeous in spring.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Splendora RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable on an RV trip, but Texas gas prices are typically among the lowest in the country, which helps a lot. Expect roughly 7 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class A, 10 to 14 for a Class C, and 12 to 18 for a Class B campervan or truck towing a travel trailer. With Splendora-area gas typically around $2.80 to $3.40 per gallon and a typical Class C holding 40 to 55 gallons, a fill-up runs around $120 to $185. For a 300-mile weekend loop (Splendora to Lake Livingston and back, with side trips), most renters spend $80 to $150 on fuel. Pro tip: top off in Splendora or Cleveland before heading into Sam Houston National Forest, prices climb at small rural stations.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Splendora?
For the best sites, book your campground as soon as your RVezy rental is confirmed. Texas state parks (including Lake Livingston and Huntsville) accept reservations up to five months in advance through the Texas Parks & Wildlife reservation system, and prime weekends from March to May and September to November fill quickly. Lake Houston Wilderness Park bookings go through Harris County Precinct 3 and can be reserved several months out. National forest sites at Double Lake and Stubblefield in Sam Houston National Forest book through Recreation.gov up to six months ahead. For private parks like Rayford Crossing or Splendora-area RV resorts, two to four weeks is usually plenty outside of holidays. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) are easier to score and often quieter.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are the local driving conditions like around Splendora?
Splendora is one of the easier places in Texas to get comfortable behind the wheel of an RV. US-59/I-69 runs right through town with wide lanes, generous shoulders, and gentle terrain, no mountain passes or tight switchbacks here. The biggest things to watch for are summer afternoon thunderstorms (pull over and wait them out), occasional fog on cool mornings near the San Jacinto River, and Houston-bound rush hour traffic if you head south on weekday afternoons. Watch your height clearance under railroad bridges in older downtown areas of nearby Cleveland and Conroe. Pro tip: head north out of Splendora instead of south when starting your trip; you'll skip the I-69/Beltway 8 congestion and be on quiet forest roads within 20 minutes.

Many rigs also feature a generator, outdoor speakers, awning with LED lights, flat-screen TV, and seatbelted seating for travel. Wi-Fi varies by host, but many provide hotspots or boosters. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Splendora%2C%20TexasHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment for your Splendora RV rental is simple and secure, you pay through RVezy directly with a credit or debit card, never in cash to the host. Your trip total (nightly rate, taxes, protection plan, and any add-ons) is charged through RVezy, and the security deposit is separate from your booking payment and placed as a temporary authorization hold on your card before pickup, not an actual charge. As long as you return the RV in the condition you got it, with tanks handled per the listing's instructions, the hold is released shortly after your trip. Deposit amounts vary by rig. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos and a quick walk-around video at pickup and dropoff; it's the single best way to keep your full deposit.
