Campgrounds near Trinity, Texas
Trinity sits on the north end of Lake Livingston in East Texas, where the Trinity River widens into one of the state's largest reservoirs. The town serves as a convenient RV base between Huntsville and Crockett, with U.S. 287 and State Highway 19 providing direct highway access. Most nearby campgrounds cluster along the lake's northern shoreline and the river channel that feeds it.
Private resorts dominate the immediate area. Trinity Luxury RV Resort and Cabins occupies a large tract on Lake Livingston with water activities, fishing access, and nature trails. River Rat Resort sits on the north side of the lake where the reservoir and the Trinity River meet, between Riverside and Trinity on State Highway 19, offering full hook-up RV sites with 30-amp and 50-amp service. Outback Campground and Marina and Marina Village Resort provide waterfront RV sites and cabins, while Bethy Creek Resort covers a nearby stretch of shoreline. Public options include Wolf Creek Park to the south and Lake Livingston State Park across the lake near Livingston.
Things to do around Trinity
Lake Livingston drives most activity. The reservoir is a well-known white bass fishery, with catfish, largemouth bass, and crappie also common. Boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, and swimming are standard summer pursuits, and marinas at Outback Campground and Marina and Marina Village Resort provide launch access and slip rentals.
On land, the Davy Crockett National Forest lies a short drive north of Trinity, with hiking on the 4C Trail and swimming at Ratcliff Lake. Lake Livingston State Park, reached by driving around to the eastern shore, adds guided ranger programs and interpretive trails. Wolf Creek Park offers a playground, sand volleyball, and basketball courts popular with families. Fishing piers, boat ramps, and fish cleaning stations are standard at most lakeside campgrounds.

Peak RV season runs from spring break through Labor Day. Spring brings warm days and the year's heaviest rainfall, with May the wettest month, when rain falls on roughly 14 days and accumulates about 114 mm of precipitation. Thunderstorms can move through quickly, so travelers should watch forecasts and choose sites with good drainage.
Summer is hot and humid. August highs typically top out near 96°F with overnight lows around 74°F, and lake use hits its peak. Weekends fill early at private resorts and at Lake Livingston State Park. Fall cools quickly after mid-September and delivers the driest stretch of the year, with November the driest month at roughly 49 mm of precipitation over about 12 rainy days.
Winters are mild but wet. Public options thin out in the cold months: Wolf Creek Park, for example, is open from March through November. Private RV resorts around Trinity generally stay open year-round.
How to book a campsite
Private campgrounds around Trinity take reservations directly. River Rat Resort, Trinity Luxury RV Resort and Cabins, Marina Village Resort, Outback Campground and Marina, and Bethy Creek Resort each handle bookings through their own websites or by phone. Waterfront sites and cabins book earliest, especially for holiday weekends and summer Fridays and Saturdays.
Lake Livingston State Park uses the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, which opens sites five months in advance on a rolling basis. Reservations can be made through the TPWD portal or by calling 512-389-8900, and Friday or Saturday arrivals require a two-night minimum during peak weekends. Wolf Creek Park, operated by the Trinity River Authority, takes reservations for its RV and tent sites during its March-through-November season through its own booking page or by calling 936-653-4312.
What to expect on-site
Expect East Texas Piney Woods scenery, with pine and hardwood cover shading most sites. Lake Livingston is a large reservoir surrounded by pine forest, and shoreline camping ranges from sandy coves to wooded bluffs. Full-hookup sites at private resorts typically include 30- and 50-amp service on concrete or gravel pads, and Wolf Creek Park's RV pads offer 30- and 50-amp electrical service with sewer and water at each site.
Cell coverage varies by carrier, with Verizon generally most reliable in the area. Alligators live in the surrounding waters, so heed posted signs near shorelines and boat ramps. Bring insect repellent, secure food, and expect high humidity from late spring through early fall.

Travel trailers and pop-ups sit at the lower end, while Class A motorhomes and luxury fifth wheels run higher. Use the price filter on RVezy to set your budget upfront. Pro tip: hosts who include generator hours or extra mileage in the base rate often deliver better total value than the lowest sticker price.
visittrinitytx.com/What license do I need to rent an RV in Trinity, TX?
Good news: a standard Class C Texas driver's license (or your equivalent home-state or home-country license) is all you need to rent an RV in Trinity for personal use. The Texas Department of Public Safety does not require a Commercial Driver's License for personal-use RV operators, so your everyday license covers Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and most fifth wheels you'll find on RVezy. To be an approved driver on RVezy you must generally be 25 or older, and ID verification happens right inside the platform. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit and you're set.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental protected if something goes wrong on my trip?
Yes, every motorhome rental in Trinity booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV, and you choose your coverage level during checkout (it is not set by the host), so you can pick what fits your trip and budget. Review the coverage tiers before you confirm, especially if you are towing into rural Walker or Polk County where help is a few extra miles away. Pro tip: pair a higher-tier plan with the included roadside assistance for full peace of mind on your Trinity RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Trinity RV rental?
You are not locked in the moment you book. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and it includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you have breathing room to finalize plans. Refund eligibility after that depends on how far out from your trip you cancel, and special circumstances like natural disasters can also apply, which matters during East Texas hurricane season. Your full policy details are available in your RVezy account and the Help Center any time. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Lake Livingston-area RVs, knowing your reservation has built-in flexibility right after booking.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Trinity?
Absolutely. Many Trinity hosts offer pet-friendly RV rentals, and you can filter for them in seconds on RVezy using the Pet-Friendly toggle. The Piney Woods is a dog's paradise: Lake Livingston State Park welcomes leashed pets on all 5.7 miles of trails, and Davy Crockett National Forest just north of Trinity has miles of off-leash-friendly forest roads. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees or breed notes. Pro tip: pack a microfiber towel for the boat ramp at Sunset Marina because your pup will absolutely want a swim after a Texas afternoon outside.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-livingstonCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Trinity?
Yes, RV delivery in Trinity is widely available and it is hands-down the easiest way to start your trip, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Many hosts will tow or drive the rig directly to Lake Livingston State Park or your private property, then level it, hook up water and 30/50-amp power, and walk you through every system. Filter listings by Delivery on RVezy and message the host with your destination address for an exact quote (typically priced per mile from their location). Pro tip: delivery is gold if you are flying into Houston Bush Intercontinental and driving up to Trinity in a rental car.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Trinity%2C%20TexasHow far can I drive on a Trinity RV trip?
Plenty far. Trinity sits near the crossroads of Highway 19 and US-287, putting some of Texas's best road-trip destinations within easy reach: Houston is about 95 miles south (under 2 hours), Dallas is roughly 175 miles northwest (about 3 hours), Austin is around 195 miles west, and Galveston on the Gulf Coast is about 145 miles south. Some hosts on RVezy offer unlimited mileage, while others include 100 to 150 free miles per day with a small per-mile fee after that. Each listing shows the mileage policy clearly. Pro tip: for a classic RV road trip from Trinity, loop down to Galveston and back through Sam Houston National Forest over 3 to 4 days.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Trinity%2C%20TexasWhere are the best campgrounds near Trinity, TX?
You're surrounded by great options. The standout is Lake Livingston State Park (about 20 miles southeast), with 141 campsites including 68 full-hookup sites that fit RVs from 25 to 75 feet, plus a boat ramp on Texas's second-largest lake. Trinity Luxury RV Resort on Pinecrest Drive offers full-hookup luxury sites on 140 acres of Piney Woods. Outback Campground and Marina on Lake Livingston is another local favorite for boaters, and Huntsville State Park (about 30 miles southwest) gives you lake swimming under towering pines. Pro tip: book Lake Livingston State Park exactly five months ahead at 8 a.m. Central, when the rolling reservation window opens.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-livingstonWhen is the best time to visit Trinity for RV camping?
The sweet spot for RV camping in Trinity is mid-March through May and again from late September through early November. Spring delivers highs in the 70s to mid-80s with wildflowers blooming around Lake Livingston, and fall brings dry, mild weather perfect for fishing and hiking. Summers are hot and humid (July and August averages 95-96°F with brutal heat index), so book RVs with strong rooftop AC and shaded sites if you go then. Winters are short and mild (highs near 58°F in January) and many parks stay open year-round. Pro tip: October weekends at Lake Livingston State Park are pure magic, cool nights, no mosquitoes, and the bass are biting.
weather.gov/hgx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one around Trinity?
You'll do great, and you won't be alone figuring it out. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the slide-outs, water system, generator, awning, and dash. Trinity is a fantastic place for a first time renting an RV because the roads are wide, flat, and uncrowded. Highway 19 and US-287 are easygoing two-lane and four-lane routes with plenty of pull-offs. Stick to daytime driving your first day, take wide right turns, and you'll feel confident within an hour. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or campervan rental in Trinity for your first trip, they drive a lot like a big van.
txdot.gov/safety/driving-laws.htmlWhat if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are at Lake Livingston, deep in Davy Crockett National Forest, or rolling down I-45 toward Houston. Roadside assistance covers things like flat tires, battery jumps, lockouts, and towing. Your host is also a quick text away for RV-specific questions (like resetting the inverter or relighting the water heater). Pro tip: save the RVezy support number in your phone before you leave Trinity, cell service can get patchy on the back roads near Apple Springs and Groveton.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Trinity rental RV across state lines or into Mexico?
Interstate travel is welcome, cross-border travel to Mexico is not. You are free to drive your Trinity rental anywhere in the continental U.S., and many hosts happily approve trips to Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, or Colorado. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across the border. Trips into Canada may be possible with host approval, just message them from the listing page before booking. Pro tip: a popular RV road trip from Trinity is the Hill Country loop through Austin, Fredericksburg, and San Antonio, about 1,000 miles round-trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Trinity?
Texas has some of the cheapest fuel in the country, which makes RV camping in Trinity easy on the wallet. Expect gas around the state average (typically $2.70-$3.20/gallon in East Texas) and diesel slightly higher. Fuel economy varies by rig: campervans get 18-22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 10-14 MPG, and Class A rigs run 7-10 MPG. For a 300-mile weekend loop around Lake Livingston and Sam Houston National Forest, budget roughly $80-$150 in fuel for a mid-size Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Trinity or Huntsville before heading into Davy Crockett National Forest, the small towns north of FM 357 have limited fuel options and higher prices.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Trinity?
Book Lake Livingston State Park sites as early as possible, the reservation window opens five months ahead through the Texas State Parks reservation system, and prime weekends (especially March-May and October) sell out within minutes of the window opening. Friday and Saturday nights require a two-night minimum at Lake Livingston State Park. Private parks like Trinity Luxury RV Resort and Outback Campground typically book up 4-8 weeks out for summer and holiday weekends, but often have midweek openings just days before. Pro tip: if Lake Livingston is full, set a CampScanner or Campnab cancellation alert, sites open up daily as plans change.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-livingston/fees-facilities/campsitesWhat are local driving conditions like around Trinity, TX?
Driving around Trinity is refreshingly stress-free. The terrain is gently rolling Piney Woods with no mountain passes or steep grades, and traffic is light outside the Houston-bound I-45 corridor (which can back up Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings). Watch for two things: sudden thunderstorms from April through June that can drop heavy rain fast, and deer crossings at dawn and dusk on FM 356, FM 230, and Highway 19. Hurricane season runs June through November, so check forecasts before coastal side trips. Pro tip: when crossing the long Trinity River bridge on US-190, ease off the throttle, crosswinds can push a tall Class A around more than you'd expect.
drivetexas.org/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Trinity?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Lake Livingston State Park offers 68 full-hookup sites (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), 49 water-and-electric sites, hot showers, a dump station, fish-cleaning station, boat ramp, and the Sunset Marina park store for bait, ice, and snacks. Private parks like Trinity Luxury RV Resort include full hookups, pools, and dog parks. Most parks have potable water fill stations and dump stations included with your stay. The dump station at Lake Livingston State Park is free for registered campers.

Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and an awning for shade. Bedding, kitchenware, and camp chairs are often included or available as add-ons. Larger Class A and Class C rigs typically have generators for off-grid power, and some include Wi-Fi hotspots. Each listing details exact features. Pro tip: filter for an outdoor kitchen if you're planning a Lake Livingston fish fry, it's a Piney Woods classic.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-livingston/park-informationWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for my Trinity RV rental?
Trinity hosts offer a great mix of add-ons to customize your trip: extra mileage packages, generator hours, bike racks, kayaks, propane fire pits, linen kits, kitchen kits, outdoor chairs, and even portable Wi-Fi. Delivery and setup is one of the most popular add-ons, especially for Lake Livingston State Park sites. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Trinity, typically a 30-minute orientation where they walk you through every system. Mileage policies range from 100 miles/day included to truly unlimited miles, all shown clearly on the listing. Pro tip: bundling generator hours plus a propane fire pit unlocks dry camping in Davy Crockett National Forest, no hookups needed.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/texas/recarea/?recid=30067How do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and 100% online through the RVezy platform, no cash or checks. You pay securely at booking and your funds are processed through RVezy, which protects both you and the host. A separate refundable security deposit is placed on your card before pickup (the amount is shown on the listing) and released after the trip if the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround video with your host at pickup and again at return. Pro tip: a quick 60-second phone video documenting the exterior, tires, and interior at handover is the smartest 60 seconds you will spend on your Trinity RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV in Trinity for an overnight stop?
Trinity is RV-friendly with several easy overnight options. The closest established campgrounds, Trinity Luxury RV Resort on Pinecrest Drive and nearby parks around Lake Livingston, take overnight reservations year-round. For quick fuel-and-sleep stops, many Texas Walmart locations (check the Huntsville store about 25 miles south) allow overnight RV parking with manager permission. Texas safety rest areas along I-45 permit free 24-hour stays. Within Trinity city limits, street parking an RV overnight is not recommended, head to a developed park instead. Pro tip: for a family RV trip Trinity launch point, book a night at Lake Livingston State Park, then loop down to Galveston or west to Sam Houston National Forest the next morning.
