Camping near West Livingston, Texas
West Livingston sits on the eastern shore of Lake Livingston, a large reservoir in the Piney Woods region of East Texas. The town serves as the closest RV base for Lake Livingston State Park, plus several private lakefront RV parks and marinas along the shoreline.
Inside the state park, RV renters can choose between multiple loops. Pin Oak Loop offers a mix of full hookup and water-and-electric sites at the northern end of the park, with 50-amp service on the full-hookup pads, and can accommodate rigs up to 61 feet. The Yaupon Loop sits along the park road near the Red Oak Loop, with sewer, water, and 50-amp hookups, spacious pet-friendly sites, and room for vehicles up to 75 feet. The Red Oak Loop has 12 full hookup sites with water, sewer, and 50-amp electrical hookups.
Outside the park boundary, Blue Sky Lake Livingston RV Park and Cabins, Lake Livingston RV Park, and Browders Marina RV Park and Campground provide additional options with private-park amenities and lake access.
Things to do around Lake Livingston
The reservoir drives most trip planning. Boating, fishing, birdwatching, hiking, and biking are the core draws in the East Texas Pineywoods around the park. Anglers without gear can borrow equipment through the Tackle Loaner Program. Bass, catfish, and crappie are commonly targeted from shore and by boat.
On land, the park has several miles of trails ranging from heavily forested to lakeside, including a nature trail boardwalk. Other activities include horseback riding, with rides departing from stables near Pin Oak Loop, along with bird watching for eagles and osprey and geocaching. Families often combine a day on the water with a shaded ride on the flat Trinity Trace Trail, which is workable for younger cyclists.

Spring and fall are the sweet spots. Daytime highs are warm without the summer punishment, and pine-shaded loops make for comfortable RV weekends. Weekend sites at Lake Livingston State Park fill up fast in these shoulder seasons, so early reservations matter.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common. Lake access, the swim area, and boating make it the highest-demand window regardless of the heat, and mosquitoes are active. Hurricane season along the Gulf runs June through November, and remnant tropical systems can push heavy rain inland into Polk County.
Winter is the quietest stretch. Visiting midweek or in winter means fewer crowds. Freezes happen but rarely last long. RV renters looking to avoid weekend booking pressure often target midweek stays from December through February, when the state park loops open up and cancellation availability improves.
How to book campsites near West Livingston
Lake Livingston State Park uses the Texas State Parks reservation system operated by TPWD. Reservations can be made online or by phone, and it is advisable to book well in advance, especially during peak seasons and weekends. Campsites and screened shelters can be reserved up to five months in advance, with the rolling window opening daily at 8 a.m. Central.
Reservations that include a Friday or Saturday night require both nights, a two-night minimum on weekends. A daily entrance fee applies on top of the campsite booking. Private parks such as Blue Sky Lake Livingston RV Park and Cabins, Lake Livingston RV Park, and Browders Marina RV Park and Campground handle bookings directly through their own websites or by phone, and often accept shorter stays and last-minute reservations when the state park is full.
What to expect on-site
Sites inside the state park are shaded by tall pines with typical East Texas humidity. Most sites sit under the pine canopy, and waterfront sites in the lakeside loops provide open lake views. Each loop has a bathroom and shower building, which can be a walk from farther sites, and facilities are older but maintained.
Hookups vary by loop. Pin Oak, Yaupon, and Red Oak offer full hookups suitable for larger rigs, while some loops are water and electric only with access to a central dump station. The park is friendly for some bigger rigs and includes both 30 and 50 amp connections.
Wildlife is close. Squirrels will come into campsites and help themselves, so keep food and paper products inside when not in use. Alligators live in the reservoir, so children and pets should stay clear of the water's edge in quiet coves.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=West%20Livingston%2C%20TexasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in West Livingston?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Texas for personal use. The Texas Department of Public Safety exempts recreational vehicles from Commercial Driver's License requirements, so your standard Class C license covers nearly every motorhome and travel trailer on RVezy. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally 25 or older, and you'll upload your license through the platform for identity verification before pickup. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit from your local auto association. Most first-time renters in Livingston are surprised how straightforward the paperwork really is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs protection included with my RV rental in West Livingston?
Yes, every RV rental in West Livingston booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with confidence. During checkout, you choose the protection level that matches your comfort with risk, from a base plan up to premium coverage that lowers your financial responsibility for most physical damage to the RV. Hosts don't pick your coverage, you do, which keeps you in control. Pair that with the host's pre-trip walkthrough at pickup and you'll feel ready before you ever leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my West Livingston RV trip?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy applies a platform-wide cancellation policy, not a host-defined one, which keeps the process consistent no matter which Lake Livingston RV you choose. Final refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel relative to your pickup date. If your plans shift, message your host first to see if dates can be moved, then reach out to RVezy support. For weather disruptions like a Gulf Coast hurricane warning, RVezy reviews trip changes case by case. Pro tip: book your campground at Lake Livingston State Park the same day you book your RV to keep everything in sync.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in West Livingston is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see motorhomes and travel trailers from hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Lake Livingston State Park allows leashed pets on all trails and most campsites, but not inside park buildings, so your pup can hike Pineywoods Nature Trail and splash along the shoreline with you. Two Creeks Crossing Resort and On The Lake RV & Cabin Resort both have on-site dog parks, which is a nice bonus after a long drive. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and bring a long lead, alligators do live in the lake, so off-leash time near water isn't a good idea.

Yes, RV delivery in West Livingston is one of the easiest ways to skip the stress of towing or driving a big rig. Many RVezy hosts will deliver and set up the RV right at your site at Lake Livingston State Park, Two Creeks Crossing Resort, The Preserve RV Park on Lake Livingston, or even a private property along US-190. They'll level it, hook up water, sewer, and 30/50-amp power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see hosts who offer this, and check the listing for the per-mile delivery fee. Pro tip: delivery is the single best move for a first time renting an RV, you arrive, unlock the door, and start your Lake Livingston RV trip.

tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-livingstonWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from West Livingston?
The sweet spots are mid-March through May and late September through early November, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70-85°F range and the Piney Woods are at their prettiest. Summer (June-August) is steamy in West Livingston, with average highs near 95°F and heat index readings that can push past 110°F, so you'll want an RV with strong air conditioning and a shaded site. Winter is mild, averaging highs around 58°F and lows in the low 40s, and most lakefront parks stay open year-round, which makes December and January great for snowbirds. Pro tip: book by February for spring break weekends at Lake Livingston State Park, those Piney Shores lakefront sites disappear fast.
weather.gov/hgx/I've never rented an RV before. How does the pickup process work?
You're going to do great, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through how to start the generator, switch from shore power to battery, dump the gray and black tanks, light the propane stove, run the awning, and use the leveling jacks. They'll share a contact number for the trip and answer any questions, no judgment. Many hosts in West Livingston also offer delivery, so the RV is set up and ready when you arrive at Lake Livingston State Park or Two Creeks Crossing. Pro tip: take a quick video on your phone during the walkthrough so you have a reference later when you're parked under the pines.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat happens if something breaks down on my RV trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you have a flat tire on US-59, a dead battery at Lake Livingston State Park, or you need a tow back into Livingston. The service handles tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified repair shop. Your host is your second lifeline for anything mechanical or appliance-related, since they know their RV inside and out. Pro tip: save the roadside number and your host's number in your phone before you leave the driveway, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN, so you'll have everything you need if you ever have to make the call.

Austin is roughly 200 miles west, and the Hill Country wineries near Fredericksburg are about 270 miles. Cross-border travel into Mexico isn't allowed on RVezy rentals, but the rest of the Lower 48 is open with host approval. For peace of mind, book your campsite at the same time as your RV. Lake Livingston State Park opens reservations up to 5 months in advance through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reservation system, and the lakefront Piney Shores full-hookup sites sell out fastest, especially Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day weekends. Friday or Saturday reservations require a two-night minimum. Private parks like Two Creeks Crossing, On The Lake RV & Cabin Resort, and The Preserve RV Park book directly on their own sites and tend to have more last-minute availability. Pro tip: if the state park is full, check for cancellations 48-72 hours before arrival, the no-show policy means sites do free up.

To avoid any issues, take date-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, and odometer at pickup and again at drop-off. Pro tip: review the host's mileage, generator, and cleaning policies in the listing so there are no surprises at checkout.

You've got options beyond traditional RV camping in West Livingston. Several Walmart locations along US-59, including the Livingston store, have historically allowed overnight RV parking with manager permission, always call ahead to confirm. Cracker Barrel in Livingston is another common overnight stop for travelers in transit. For day-use, the boat ramps along Lake Livingston managed by the Trinity River Authority have large lots that easily fit motorhomes and tow rigs. Boondocking on Sam Houston National Forest lands is allowed in designated dispersed camping areas about 30 miles southwest near New Waverly. For longer stays, RVezy hosts can deliver directly to a friend's private driveway anywhere in Polk County.
