Campgrounds and RV parks near Willow Park, TX

Fort Worth is the primary draw. The Stockyards National Historic District runs daily cattle drives, rodeos, and Western shopping, and the Fort Worth Zoo, Kimbell Art Museum, and Sundance Square are all within a 30-minute drive east on I-20. West of Willow Park, outdoor options open up at Lake Mineral Wells State Park. The park protects part of the Western Cross Timbers and includes Penitentiary Hollow, a small canyon-like feature popular for top-rope rock climbing, plus more than 31 miles of hiking trails, 25 miles of which are open to bicycles and horses. Visitors can also relax by the lake and use the 20-mile Trailway. Downtown Weatherford, a few minutes west, has a historic courthouse square, peach orchards in season, and antique shopping.

North Texas has a long shoulder season on either side of a hot summer. The best time of year to visit the Weatherford area is mid-March to May and mid-October to mid-November, and the same pattern holds for most private RV parks around Willow Park: spring wildflowers, mild temperatures, and school-break traffic drive demand from March through May, with a second peak in October and early November. Summer is hot and humid. The warmest month is typically July, with an average high near 95°F, so shaded or full-hookup sites with reliable 50-amp service for air conditioning become important. May is usually the wettest month, and the air can feel uncomfortably humid from June to August, with thunderstorms, hail, and occasional tornado warnings during the spring severe-weather season. Winter is the quiet season. The coldest month is usually January, with average highs near 56°F, and many private parks stay open year-round. At Lake Mineral Wells, trails may be closed to all users after wet weather to preserve the natural features, and burn bans occur, during which wood fires are not allowed but charcoal and containerized fuel stoves are permitted.

Expect flat to gently rolling terrain, oak and mesquite cover, and easy interstate access. The private parks near Willow Park are built for travel convenience rather than scenery: level pads, full hookups, and quick on-and-off from I-20. The Weatherford / Fort Worth West KOA Journey sits close to the highway but is a common overnight stop between Dallas-Fort Worth and points west. At Lake Mineral Wells State Park, sites are more spread out among post oaks and along the lake. Campsites can be found by the small lake and up on the higher areas of the park. Primitive sites are first come, first served, require a 2.5-mile hike-in, and no ground fires are allowed in the primitive camping area. The gate is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Cell service is generally good throughout the area.
