Campgrounds and RV parks near Bracey, VA

Bracey sits in Mecklenburg County in southern Virginia, on the shoreline of Lake Gaston. The reservoir was formed when Virginia Electric and Power Company built Gaston Dam on the Roanoke River, with the dam completed in 1963. Lake Gaston covers roughly 20,000 acres, runs about 34 miles long, and has around 350 miles of shoreline, with an average depth of 40 feet. The lake straddles the Virginia and North Carolina border in Mecklenburg and Brunswick counties on the Virginia side, which puts RV renters within reach of both state park systems on a single trip. The community itself is small and reached from Interstate 85. Most travelers use it as a base for lake camping, boating, and freshwater fishing rather than as a destination in its own right. Named options in the immediate area include Lake Gaston Americamps, Lake Gaston RV and Camping Resort, The Club Resort at Lake Gaston for members, and Tobacco Farm Campground. Renters looking for a public-park experience can drive south across the state line to Kimball Point at Kerr Lake State Recreation Area, which sits on the neighboring 50,000-acre John H. Kerr Reservoir and is operated by North Carolina State Parks.

The area uses two very different reservation systems. Public sites at Kimball Point are booked through the North Carolina State Parks system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to six months in advance, and there is a two-night minimum on holiday weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Private parks handle their own bookings directly. Reservations are available year-round at Lake Gaston Americamps, which offers water and electric hookups with 30 and 50-amp service, a limited number of full-hookup sites, and pull-throughs that accommodate rigs up to about 45 feet. Lake Gaston RV and Camping Resort and Tobacco Farm Campground also book directly through their own channels. The Club Resort at Lake Gaston is a members-only property tied to the Resorts of Distinction reciprocal camping program, so access is limited to members and first-time visitors.
