Campgrounds and RV parks near St. Paul, VA

St. Paul sits along the Clinch River in Wise and Russell counties in far southwestern Virginia, in a rugged corner of the Appalachians shaped by narrow river valleys and forested ridges. The town serves as a hub for Clinch River State Park, a developing blueway park anchored by the Sugar Hill Unit in St. Paul, along with the Spearhead Trails ATV system and paddling on one of North America's most biodiverse rivers. RV travelers typically split time between water-based recreation on the Clinch and off-road riding on the surrounding trail networks. Camp Mountventures and Copperhead Ridge Glamping & RV Park sit closest to town, while Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure RV Park sits at the Coal Canyon trailhead in Grundy, about a half-hour north. Breaks Interstate Park, on the Virginia-Kentucky line, offers the region's largest developed campground, and Shadrack Campground provides a full-hookup option farther south near Bristol. Most sites in the area are geared to smaller and mid-size rigs. Mountain roads are narrow and winding, so trip planning should account for slower travel times between destinations.

Breaks Interstate Park uses a site-specific reservation system through its own Firefly Reservations portal, which now also handles bookings for the Breaks Park Southern Gap campground after the park finalized its acquisition of Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure and 35 acres of property, including the campground's five cabins, 19 RV pull-thru sites, 14 back-in sites, and primitive tent camping. Reservations can be booked several months in advance, and cabins, yurts, and lodge rooms tend to sell out first for summer and fall weekends. Larger rigs should call the park directly before booking, since some loops were built before modern RV lengths. Sugar Hill and other Clinch River State Park units are currently day-use only, with no overnight camping on park property. Private parks in the area, including Camp Mountventures, Copperhead Ridge Glamping & RV Park, and Shadrack Campground, take reservations through their own websites or by phone. Race weekends at Bristol Motor Speedway push nearby availability months out, so those dates should be booked early.
