Campgrounds and RV parks near Beacon Hill, WA

The headline attraction is Mount St. Helens. From Beacon Hill, drivers head north on I-5 to Castle Rock, then east on SR 504 to reach the Mount St. Helens Visitor Center at Silver Lake, the Forest Learning Center, and viewpoints over the Toutle River blast zone. The Hummocks Trail near the current upper-highway closure gate offers a family-friendly walk close to the road. Closer to camp, the Cowlitz and Toutle rivers draw anglers for salmon and steelhead, and Silver Lake near Seaquest State Park is known for warmwater fishing and trout. Seaquest itself has several miles of trails, a boardwalk over wetland shoreline, and a pedestrian tunnel that links the campground to the Silver Lake visitor center across the highway. For rainy-day plans, Longview and Kelso have grocery stores, restaurants, propane, and RV supplies within a short drive.

Summer is the prime RV season. June through early September brings the driest, warmest weather, with long daylight hours and the lower Mount St. Helens corridor most likely to be open. Reservations at popular sites like Seaquest State Park fill quickly for summer weekends, so booking ahead is strongly recommended. Spring and fall are quieter shoulder seasons. Wildflowers and green hillsides arrive in May, while September and October can still deliver dry, clear days before the rains return. Travelers should note that the upper portion of SR 504 closes seasonally in winter due to snow and ice, and the road is currently closed between milepost 45.2 and milepost 51 following a major debris slide above the Spirit Lake Outlet Bridge. Bridge reconstruction is underway, with a possible reopening of the highway later in the construction season and the Johnston Ridge Observatory expected to reopen after additional Forest Service work. Winter trips are still possible. Seaquest State Park stays open for camping year-round, though some campsite water service is turned off during freezing weather.

Sites in the area range from full-hookup RV pads with pull-throughs and shore power to wooded state-park loops with a mix of standard and partial-hookup sites. Seaquest State Park has 52 standard sites, 18 partial-hookup sites, 15 full-hookup sites, and three hiker/biker sites, with a maximum site length of fifty feet on limited spots. Full-hookup sites are concentrated in the T-loop, while the forested north, south, and mid-camp loops hold the standard and partial-hookup spots. Expect tall conifers, soft ground after rain, and cool, damp mornings even in summer. Cell service is generally reliable along the I-5 corridor and weaker as travelers move east toward Mount St. Helens. Wildlife sightings can include deer, elk, and a range of forest birds. Seaquest has one dump station near the entrance, and the larger private parks offer dump service as well. Firewood is typically sold on-site, and seasonal burn bans may apply during dry stretches.
