Camping near Bingen, Washington
Bingen sits on the Washington bank of the Columbia River in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, directly across from Hood River, Oregon via the toll bridge. The area is at the center of the largest National Scenic Area in the country, with wind and water sports, hiking, fishing, cycling, skiing, and sightseeing all within a short drive. RV travelers use Bingen as a base for both sides of the river, since campgrounds cluster along Interstate 84 in Oregon and State Route 14 in Washington.
Options closest to town lean toward full-hookup RV parks, with Gorge Base Camp positioned at the foot of the bluff below White Salmon near the Hood River Bridge. State park campgrounds sit a short drive east along the river: Memaloose State Park overlooks the Columbia and its namesake island, and the grassy campground features more than 100 campsites, including RV sites with full hookups and tent sites with water nearby. Viento State Park lies just west of Hood River on the Oregon side, also within a short drive.
For travelers heading into the Cascade foothills toward Mount Adams, Timberlake Campground and RV Park and the Atkisson site near Trout Lake provide forested alternatives away from the river corridor.
Things to do around Bingen
The Columbia River is the main draw. Bingen sits along SR-14 with quick access to windsurfing and kiteboarding launches, from the swells near Swell City to the more mellow water at the Bingen launch. Paddleboarding, fishing, and jet-boat tours all launch from nearby points.
Hiking is the other core activity. Dog Mountain, famous for spring wildflowers, and Catherine Creek sit within a short drive, and the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail provides paved, car-free miles for walkers and cyclists. Drano Lake is known for spring salmon fishing, and Klickitat Wildlife Area is a quiet spot for wildflowers.
Families typically mix a day on the water with wine tasting in the White Salmon and Hood River valleys, a stop at the Mt Adams Ranger District office in Trout Lake, or a drive up to the Guler Ice Caves.

Summer is peak season. July and August bring warm, dry weather and steady thermal winds through the Gorge, which is why windsurfers and kiteboarders dominate the river. RV sites at state parks book well ahead on weekends, and campground availability tightens across the region.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with lighter crowds. Spring brings waterfalls, wildflowers, and cool-weather hikes as the Gorge greens up. Fall brings salmon runs and quieter campgrounds, though rain increases from October onward. Some Oregon state park campgrounds run a limited season: Memaloose is open from mid-March to October 31, and Viento is open from late March or early April through October.
Winter shifts the activity mix. Just west of Mt. Adams, Atkisson becomes a sno-park in winter, and the flat, forested terrain makes it a popular spot for winter sports enthusiasts. Gorge Base Camp and Timberlake stay operational for RV travelers wanting a base for snow days on Mount Adams or Mount Hood.
How to book
Oregon and Washington run separate reservation systems, so RV travelers usually juggle two accounts. Oregon state parks, including Memaloose and Viento, take bookings through the Oregon State Parks reservation portal on ReserveAmerica. Campgrounds accept reservations up to 6 months in advance at oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com. The maximum stay in Oregon State Parks is 14 nights within any 17-night period.
Federal sites, including Atkisson Group Camp on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, book through Recreation.gov. Private RV parks such as Gorge Base Camp and Timberlake Campground and RV Park take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone.
For summer weekends, book 8 to 12 weeks out. If dates are sold out, cancellations are common, and same-day walk-up sites can sometimes be found early in the morning.
What to expect on site
Expect wind, sun, and noise. The Gorge funnels strong westerlies through Bingen most summer afternoons, which is a feature for windsports but worth planning for when setting up awnings. Sites along the Columbia are close to Interstate 84 and active Union Pacific rail lines: the park is located next to Interstate-84 and an active rail line, and trains and road noise can be heard at all hours.
Amenities vary. State parks typically provide flush toilets, hot showers, picnic tables, and fire rings, with electric and water hookups at RV sites. There are no sewer hook-ups or dump station at Viento, while Memaloose offers a dump station and full-hookup RV sites. Cell service is generally solid along the river corridor and spotty once past Trout Lake. Fire restrictions are common in mid to late summer, so check current rules before arrival.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Bingen, WA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Bingen, WA?
RV rental in Bingen is affordable compared to bigger Pacific Northwest hubs because you book directly from local owners on RVezy. Expect roughly $90 to $175 per night for travel trailers, $150 to $250 for campervans, and $175 to $325 for Class C motorhomes, with peak rates in July and August when windsurfers and Gorge tourists fill town. For a cheap RV rental Bingen travelers love, book midweek in May or late September when host pricing softens. Pro tip: filter by trailers if you already own an SUV or pickup. They are the lowest nightly rate on the platform and many Bingen hosts will deliver and level them for you.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bingen,WashingtonWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Bingen, Washington?
Good news: a standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Bingen. Washington does not require a Commercial Driver License (CDL) or special endorsement for any motorhome you can book on RVezy, including 30-foot Class C and Class A rigs. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID in the app before pickup so there are no surprise paperwork moments in the host's driveway. Visiting from overseas? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto club along with your home-country license. Once that's in your wallet, you're cleared to roll out toward the Gorge.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs roadside assistance and protection included with my Bingen RV rental?
Yes. Every RV rental in Bingen booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout (hosts do not pick it for you). That means if you have a tire issue on State Route 14 heading to Lyle, or need a jump start at a Gorge-area RV park, one phone call gets help dispatched. It is the safety net that turns a stressful moment into a quick fix, so you can focus on enjoying the Columbia River Gorge.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Bingen RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every RV rental in Bingen, not the individual host, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refund eligibility after that window depends on how far out your trip is. You will see the same RVezy-wide process on every listing, not different host-defined policies. If anything changes, message support through the app and they will walk you through your options and any applicable refund or travel credit.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Bingen?
Absolutely. Pet-friendly RV rental Bingen options are easy to find: toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) right in their listing. Once you arrive, the Gorge is a tail-wagging paradise: leashed dogs are welcome on the Catherine Creek trails just east of Bingen, many local RV parks allow pets at every site, and the Columbia River shoreline near Bingen Marina is perfect for a morning splash. Pack a long lead and a water bowl. Summer afternoons often hit the high 70s to mid 80s, so plan walks for cooler hours.
fs.usda.gov/main/crgnsa/homeCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Bingen?
Yes. RV delivery Bingen hosts make this incredibly easy, which is the smart move if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local owners will tow or drive the rig directly to a Gorge-area campground or a private property in White Salmon, then level it, hook up water and 30/50 amp power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Just filter by Delivery on RVezy and message the host with your destination address. Tip: ask about a stationary setup if you would rather not drive at all. It is the most relaxing way to enjoy a Bingen RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038103634-Renting-a-delivered-RVHow far can I drive from Bingen, and is unlimited mileage available?
Bingen sits at a sweet spot in the Pacific Northwest, so your mileage stretches a long way. Portland is about 65 miles west on State Route 14, Mount Hood is roughly 50 miles south, Mount St. Helens is about 80 miles northwest, and Yakima wine country is about 90 miles north. Many RVezy hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, while others bundle 100 to 150 free miles per night with a small per-mile charge after that. Check the mileage section on each listing before booking. Pro tip: for a one-week RV road trip from Bingen looping to Mount Rainier and back, look for unlimited-mileage listings to save the most.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/scenic-byways-road-tripsWhere are the best campgrounds near Bingen to park my RV?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Bingen include Bridge RV Park and Campground in White Salmon (walking distance to downtown), Columbia Hills Historical State Park about 12 miles east near Dallesport (lakeside sites with petroglyph tours), Memaloose State Park across the river in Oregon, and Maryhill State Park about 30 miles east with Columbia River frontage. For RV camping Bingen weekends in July, book 60 to 90 days ahead through Washington State Parks' reservation site. State park sites disappear fast once windsurf season heats up.
washington.goingtocamp.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Bingen, WA?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for a Bingen RV trip, with July and August typically delivering 78 to 85 F days and cool 50 F nights perfect for sleeping with the windows open. June is wildflower season at Catherine Creek and Coyote Wall, September brings harvest festivals at Gorge wineries, and October paints the oak hillsides gold. Winters are mild by Washington standards with highs often in the upper 30s to mid 40s and occasional light snow, and many Bingen-area RV parks stay open year-round, so a quiet shoulder-season trip is completely doable. Insider tip: the famous Gorge windsurf wind peaks from mid-June to mid-August, which is also when prices peak.
weather.gov/pdt/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay picking one up in Bingen?
You'll do great. First time renting an RV in Bingen is genuinely beginner-friendly because every RVezy host gives you an in-person orientation at pickup, walking you through propane, water, dump valves, the awning, and the dash before you ever turn the key. Bingen sits just off State Route 14, a relaxed two-lane highway with wide shoulders and modest speeds, perfect for getting comfortable. If city driving worries you, choose a 22 to 26 foot Class C or a campervan rental Bingen owners list (easy to maneuver, parks in a normal spot). Pro tip: ask your host for their preferred contact method so you can message quick questions from the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something breaks down during my Bingen RV trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every RV rental in Bingen through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 141 toward Trout Lake, a dead battery at Maryhill, or a tow off State Route 14 is one phone call away. Your host is also a direct lifeline. Most Bingen owners answer messages quickly and can talk you through quirks like a finicky water pump or fridge reset. For anything bigger, RVezy support coordinates next steps. The result: you keep enjoying the Gorge instead of worrying about logistics.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Bingen RV rental into Oregon or Canada?
Yes to Oregon, absolutely. Crossing the Hood River Bridge from Bingen into Oregon takes just a few minutes and your RVezy coverage travels with you, so a loop through the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge, Mount Hood, or even down to Bend is fair game. Trips into Canada may be possible but require host approval and confirmation of cross-border coverage before you book, so message the owner directly through the listing. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not apply there. Popular RV road trip from Bingen ideas: the Mount Hood Scenic Loop (about 140 miles) or Astoria and the Oregon Coast (about 220 miles).
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's the realistic fuel budget for a motorhome rental in Bingen?
Plan smart and fuel won't bust your budget. Most motorhome rental Bingen options get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, while campervans and small trailers stretch to 14 to 18 mpg. Washington gas prices in the Gorge area generally track the state average, with stations in Bingen and White Salmon being the closest fill-ups and the cluster across the bridge in Hood River sometimes a few cents cheaper. For a 4-night, 400-mile loop in a 25-foot Class C, budget roughly $150 to $220 in fuel depending on current pump prices. Pro tip: fill up before climbing to Trout Lake or Mount Adams. Prices jump at remote stations.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Bingen?
Book early and you'll snag the prime spots. Washington State Parks (including Columbia Hills and Maryhill) open reservations nine months in advance through the state parks reservation portal, and Gorge weekends from late June through Labor Day often sell out quickly once the booking window opens. For private parks near Bingen and White Salmon, aim for 60 to 90 days ahead in peak summer and 2 to 3 weeks for spring or fall. Shoulder-season tip: many Klickitat County and Forest Service campgrounds along the White Salmon River accept walk-ups midweek, so a Tuesday arrival often beats a Friday scramble.
washington.goingtocamp.com/What are the driving conditions like around Bingen and the Columbia River Gorge?
Driving around Bingen is friendlier than most people expect. State Route 14 is the main artery, a scenic two-lane highway hugging the Columbia River with gentle grades and few switchbacks. The famous Gorge wind blows hardest on summer afternoons (often 25 to 40 mph from the west), so tall rigs feel it on bridges. Drive in mornings when the air is calmer. Watch for sudden showers in spring, occasional snow from December through February on Highway 141 toward Mount Adams, and active BNSF train crossings in town. Where to park an RV in Bingen for a quick stop: the Marina lot and the wide Bingen Point pull-offs both handle big rigs comfortably.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-time/mountainpassesWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Bingen?
Bingen-area campgrounds are well equipped for a smooth stay. Many private parks in White Salmon and along the Gorge offer 30/50 amp hookups, city water, sewer, WiFi, laundry, and propane fills. Columbia Hills Historical State Park has full-hookup sites, restrooms with showers, and a dump station. Bridge RV Park provides hookups and a tent area. For dump and water access on the road, Maryhill State Park about 30 minutes east is a reliable stop. Most Forest Service sites in Gifford Pinchot National Forest north of Bingen are dry camping, so top off your fresh tank in town before heading up to Trout Lake or Takhlakh Lake.
fs.usda.gov/giffordpinchotWhat amenities are inside a typical Bingen RV rental?
Expect more comfort than you might guess. A typical RV rental in Bingen sleeps 4 to 8 people with a real queen or king bed, a convertible dinette, a full kitchen (propane stove, fridge/freezer, microwave, sink, cookware), a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, roof-mounted air conditioning, propane furnace, and dash plus house seatbelts for everyone riding. Many listings include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and an awning, while campervan rental Bingen options often add solar panels and onboard WiFi hotspots. Generator availability varies, so if you plan to dry-camp at Takhlakh Lake or boondock near Mount Adams, filter for a generator-equipped listing before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bingen,WashingtonWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for my Bingen RV rental?
Hosts in Bingen love making your trip turnkey. Common add-ons include linen and bedding packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and tables, bike racks, paddleboards (a huge perk on the Columbia), generators, propane refills, and even pre-stocked fridges. Pickup typically happens at the host's home in Bingen, White Salmon, or nearby Hood River with a 30 to 45 minute walkthrough; many hosts also offer delivery to local campgrounds for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary by listing (100 to 150 free miles per night is common, with unlimited options too). Review the listing's Add-ons and Rules sections, then message your host before booking to confirm pricing and details.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038103634-Renting-a-delivered-RVHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Bingen?
Payment is simple and secure. When you rent an RV in Bingen through RVezy, you pay entirely through the platform with a credit or debit card. No cash or e-transfers to the host. You'll typically pay a portion at booking and the balance closer to your trip, all itemized in the app. A refundable security deposit is placed as a temporary hold on your card before pickup and is released after drop-off, assuming the RV comes back in the condition it left. Deposit amounts vary by listing and are shown before you confirm. Pro tip: take date-stamped walkaround photos at pickup and drop-off. It is the easiest way to keep your deposit return drama-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Bingen in winter, and what should I know about cold-weather camping?
Yes, winter rentals are available in Bingen, and the Gorge in January is gorgeously quiet. Many local hosts keep their rigs winter-ready with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, propane furnaces, and shore-power-ready electric heaters. Several Gorge-area RV parks stay open year-round with full hookups, so you can plug into 50 amp power and stay warm even when overnight lows dip to the upper 20s. Frame it as an adventure: White Salmon's Mount Adams views are crystal clear in winter, Mount Hood Meadows is roughly 45 minutes away, and weekday rates drop noticeably. Message your host about freeze precautions and ask them to demo the furnace and tank heaters at pickup.
