Camping near Carnation, Washington
Carnation sits in the Snoqualmie Valley about 40 minutes east of Seattle, at the confluence of the Snoqualmie and Tolt Rivers. The area combines working farms, river corridors, and forested Cascade foothills, making it a practical base for RV travelers who want quick access to Seattle and Bellevue without parking a rig downtown.
The core public campground is Tolt-MacDonald Park and Campground, a 574-acre King County park inside the city. It offers 16 pull-through RV sites with water and electric, tent sites, yurts, and a converted shipping-container cabin reached by a 500-foot suspension footbridge over the Snoqualmie River.
Private RV parks within a short drive expand the options. Tall Chief RV Resort, Blue Sky RV Park, Issaquah Village RV Park, Thunderbird RV and Camping Resort, and Vasa Park Resort on Lake Sammamish round out the choices. Together these cover hookup needs ranging from quick overnights to longer Seattle-area stays.
Things to do around Carnation
Tolt-MacDonald Park anchors day use with twelve miles of forested and riverside trails connecting to the Ames Lake Forest network, a popular mountain biking area reached by crossing the suspension bridge. The 27-mile gravel Snoqualmie Valley Trail runs through the valley and links farms, river crossings, and neighboring communities for cycling and walking.
Families often pair camping with Remlinger Farms, Carnation Farms, and the local farmers' market. Snoqualmie Falls and the trails around Rattlesnake Ledge sit a short drive south. In fall, chinook salmon spawn in the Snoqualmie River below the suspension bridge, with bald eagles and osprey overhead.
Lake Sammamish State Park, near the Issaquah-area campgrounds, adds swimming beaches and paddling within roughly 25 minutes of Carnation.

Peak season runs from late June through Labor Day, when valley temperatures are mild and rainfall is at its lowest. Summer weekends fill quickly at Tolt-MacDonald and at the private RV parks closest to Seattle, so most travelers book well ahead.
Spring and fall are usable but wet. At Tolt-MacDonald, weather conditions in spring and fall can make some drive-in sites walk-in only, which rules them out for trailers and motorhomes during shoulder seasons. Fall brings salmon runs in the rivers and reduced crowding at private parks.
Winter is the wettest stretch of the year, with persistent rain, river flooding risk in the Snoqualmie Valley from atmospheric river events, and occasional snow at higher elevations. The Tolt-MacDonald campground operates from April 1 through October 31, while several private RV parks in the area stay open year-round for self-contained rigs.

How to book a site
Tolt-MacDonald Park is booked through King County Parks' online reservation system or by phone. Reservations require at least five days' notice and can be made up to one year ahead. RV sites have a two-night minimum, a seven-night maximum, a 36-foot trailer length limit, and a fixed 3 p.m. check-in and 11 a.m. check-out.
Washington State Parks campgrounds in the broader region use a separate system at washington.goingtocamp.com, with reservations available up to nine months in advance. Popular summer weekends often book the moment the window opens, and same-day reservations are now available until 2 p.m. on the arrival date.
The private parks near Carnation, including Tall Chief RV Resort, Blue Sky RV Park, Issaquah Village RV Park, Thunderbird RV and Camping Resort, and Vasa Park Resort, are booked directly through each property.
What to expect on site
Tolt-MacDonald's RV loop has 16 pull-through utility sites with water and electric only, picnic tables, and fire rings. There is no sewer hookup at individual sites. The park entrance gate locks at 10 p.m. from May through Labor Day and at dusk from September through April, and check-in before 3 p.m. is enforced.
Private RV parks in the area generally offer full hookups, though older properties may have a mix of 30-amp and 50-amp service, so confirm electrical needs when booking. Cell coverage in the valley is workable but inconsistent between sites.
Expect tall conifers, soft ground after rain, and frequent wildlife sightings including deer, eagles, and salmon in season. Bring layers, rain gear, and leveling blocks for sloped private sites.
